The horn will not activate when pressed in the location of about 3 - 6 o'clock (lower right quadrant). The dealership service manager stated that there is two sensors in this models unit, one at around 12 (top) and 7 (lower left), and that the horn can only easily activate if pressed in either those locations or if pressed in the center.

I received safety recall js for the Audi A4 ignition switch in November 2006 and complied with the instructions by bringing the car to the dealer for a replacement switch in January 2007. The dealer did not do the repair because they said my car already had the correct switch. In June 2008, this ignition switch malfunctioned in the exact manner described in the recall. When I started the engine, I heard a crack in the ignition switch and then the electrical components, including dashboard lights, horn, turn signal, windshield wipers, and air conditioning, immediately became inoperative. When I turned off the engine, the key would not return to the off position and had to be pulled out by force and subsequently forced back in to put the car in neutral for the tow truck. I contacted both the dealer and Audi customer relations about the problem, but since the recall had been closed by this time, no one was willing to consider the possibility that the repair had not been done properly or that the ignition switch in my car, which they had previously claimed was the correct one, was just as defective as the recalled switch. I brought the car to an independent repair shop and had the switch replaced at my own expense. I asked for reimbursement from Audi, but they refused.

I owe a 2004 Audi A4 convertible. In late February of 06, I started to experience problems when I put the gear on d (drive) or r (reverse) and gave gas; the car did not move at all. Dash board instrument was not responsive either. Initially I thought this was due to cold weather. On March 13, 06, I was running errands in a very busy area of northern virginia. The car was warm as it has been running for a couple of hours. I approached a busy intersection to make a left turn. When the road was cleared, I attempted to move forward but the car was totally frozen - it would not move regardless of how much I pushed the gas pedal. I was now facing the oncoming traffic of three cars blowing their horns like crazy. I just could not move the car and was terrified that I would be hit by the oncoming traffic. The oncoming traffic came to an abrupt stop and after several attempts I was able to move the car. I was very scared and called the Audi of tysons corner (hbl) in vienna, virginia immediately and took the car in that day. The next day (3/14) afternoon, I received a call from the service advisor indicating that they were not able to duplicate the problem and that nothing was wrong with my car. I insisted that they recheck as I experienced the problem several times and that the last incident was could have been fatal as I was stuck in the middle of the intersection. They agreed and kept the car for another day; however, the next day they called and said the same thing - nothing wrong with the car. I picked the car on March 16, 06. While waiting in the lobby, I saw another Audi A4 convertible driver. I approached her about my experience and asked if she experienced the same or similar problems. She said yes and that is why she brought her car in along with a regular service check. She received the same feedback from the Audi of tysons - nothing wrong with her car either. I have the name, phone number, etc. , of the other driver if needed.

I own a 1996 Audi A4. The horn has intermittently worked since I've owned the vehicle - since 1999. I've tried on numerous occasions to have various dealers fix the problem since there is an outstanding recall notice for the horn assembly (campaign: 96v088000) but I'm now finally told that my VIN does not fall into the appropriate range. However, the description of the 1996 Audi A4 problem matches my problem exactly. I was told by a dealer years ago that to fix the problem, I would need to replace the leather steering wheel, which would cost approximately $1,000. My VIN should be included in this recall notice. Please advise.

My horn has failed once per year for the 6+ years I have owned it. Audi (manufacturer) has replaced horn under warranty each time, and reimbursed me for the replacement one time (out of warranty). I just discovered that there was a recall for some vins for my car (1996 Audi A4 quattro) for the exact problem I have been having. Recall is 96v088000. But manufacturer claims that the recall doesn't cover my car. Obviously is should, since I am suffering (have been suffering) from the exact same problem for 6 years. Something needs to be done to expand this recall to cars through, at least, my VIN, as the recall isn't wide enough. Ts.
