My Audi a-4 was parked all day, all of a sudden the car caught on fire only in the dash. I have reported this to Audi they refuse to give me a report after looking at the car. They also said they could not tell if it was tampered with. The fire dept that put out the fire, said it was an electrical fire. This car is stock, I have had to replace the ignition switch and module. This car has had recalls and may complaints. This could caused injury and death if my child and I were in the car. I feel as if I am being blown off, I have called and spoke to many people and there is no straight answer. Now my car is sitting at scottadale paint and auto body where I was instructed to leave it by Audi. I have called there today to check on my car and no one can find it. I have also been sending e-mail and so on.

In 1/04, during normal driving conditions one evening, my '03 1. 8t A4 began shaking violently as I began accelerated from a stop sign. The check engine light came on and I lost a significant amount of power and couldn't accelerate well. The dealer stated that I blew an ignition coil. Not 2 months later, in early 3/04, the same exact situation occured and I had to have another ignition coil replaced. I have learned that the mfr had a product recall for this exact problem, however my vehicle's components are not covered by those under recall. I was told I have the "newer" versions of the igition coils already in my car. While they might be newer, they sure haven't solved the underlying problem! two blown igition coils in less than 2 months and I can't get the mfr to replace the other 2 coils that I'm certain will go out at some point soon too.

My 2002 Audi A4 1. 8t had a coil pack failure on 12/18/02. The failure caused the car to sputter lose speed and become unpredictable. It occured at a speed of 30 mph forcing me to take evasive driving action. Upon further research, I found out that this failure is occuring on a very large scale with dozens and dozens of 1. 8t engines (both vw and Audi) having this problem. Vw/Audi has not issued a recall for these parts and is only replacing the failed part. There are coil packs in each 1. 8t. Vw/Audi is not acting on this problem leaving thousands of 1. 8t owners with defective parts in their cars. When a coil pack fails it is a very dangerous situation.

Audi A4 ignition coil problem. 2 have gone - now I have to wait for the other 2 to go in order to again own a dependable car. This is most inconvenient during a cold winter! I am paying my lease, and am not able to drive the car further than a few miles. I live in a remote area of maine, where the temperature is well below zero much of the time. I could freeze to death waiting for a tow truck!! why is there not a recall. Why can't the company put a hold on completing new cars and therefore install 4 coils at a time instead of one as they go?? why should I continue to pay for this car unless it is fixed?.

The car's basic problem is a badly designed coil pack (ignition module). There is a redesigned one but the dealer will only replace the one that fails. Leaving three others (in a 4cyl car) to fail at a later date. These failures happen mostly at engine startup, but has also happened to me at the worst possible time also. Like driving in a tunnel where there is no shoulder to pull off to. The engine just cuts off like someone reached over and turned the key. . . Luckily when this happens at speed in a manual trans. Car, I just popped the engine back on. Dt.
Ignition coil malfunction.
Intermittent problem with engine computer kept it from accelerating. It would suddenly only idle out from a stop. If you were to pull into traffic you could not accelerate and would be hit or cause someone else to swerve to avoid you. It took the dealer 7 months to find the problem and replace the ecu. It became obvious after replacement that it had been bad since day one and gradually got worse since all acceleration hesitation went away. This unit quickly failed and had to be replaced also.
