Power Steering Failed Problems of Audi A4

The steering locks up out of no were while driving making it seem like power steering failure and gives you a stuck then let go feeling. I'm a mechanic and have come to find out the steering universal joints seized and rusted bad making it well not steer smooth it's very dangerous and a car only 6 years old with 80000 mile should not have an issue like that but it's very very common after research.

Electronic power steering causing unsafe instability on freeways. Intermittently the power steering assist is failing intermittently causing the driver to apply excessive force to move the steering wheel but soon after this the power steering assist comes back on and hence turning the steering more than required and ending up in an unsafe position or swerving on freeways and even at low speeds. The issue seems to be a well documented issue and can happen at any mileage with reports out there on cars with less than 5k miles. Audi should have a TSB and recall for this.

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Audi A4. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the power steering would suddenly fail. During the failure the message "steering defective do not drive" would display. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who unable to determine to cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, the local dealer was not. The failure mileage was 20,000. Jft.

The steering become intermittently stiff both while stationary and in motion. Turns were hardest to make at slow speeds. The steering got progressively harder as time went on (several weeks). I initiallly thought the issue was the winter tires, but those were changed and the problem worsened. Now it feels as though the power steering has completely failed. It takes considerable effort to make any turn at any speed.
