2 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2014 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/17/2020

The front wheel bearings were making noise @ 76,756 miles, while driving on the open road, so both were changed out. Upon checking the internet I found TSB no. 401548 referring to the problem in many Audi models from 2009-2016. With this extensive problem, a recall should be enforced. A month later @ 78998 miles the electronic rack and pinion steering started to make a rubbing noise when turned, sitting or traveling and an on board red notice came up indicating steering problem seek professional help. The unit was electrically diagnosed with a failed air bag clockspring and an electronic steering gear assembly. The codes were entered and the rack and clockspring were reprogrammed to the vehicle once installed, solving the problem. This also seems to be an inherent problem in this vehicle, since the mechanic had know of two other already this year. The car did drive fine with the old rack and pinion in it.

4 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2006 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

Power steering fluid is draining from reservoir faster than I can put it in. This is one problem too many on my Audi. The car is a 2006 A4 purchased new in March 2007 therefore 5 years and 3 mths and 60,000 miles. From what I can't read on the web, the oil is lost in the rack and pinion box. This is the fourth time at Audi dealer in past 6 weeks, two electric window regulators, bearing front wheel and now power steering problem that I think will go in the 600$ to 1000$ repair. I've had many cars and since my two past Audi's, I've replaced parts that I had never heard before even if I kept my previous cars 7 years and 160,000 miles. This is definitely my last german product in my yard. Audi has a nice design but that is it. You need at least two cars in the driveway to own an Audi, that way you are not stuck. My dealer has quadrupled his service area, now I know the reason.
