I was rear-ended at a slow speed. I was stopped at the time. The driver who hit me was decelerating hard. Damaged to rear bumper. When I got back in the car, I realized that telescoping steering column had been pulled toward me. This would have been bad had I been shoved into the car in front of me and the airbags deployed too close to me. Luckily, this did not happen.

2017 A4 Audi allroad- while making turns at low speeds with the steering wheel, the vehicle makes cracking, popping and vibration noises. The noise was inspected and reproduced, confirmed on 1/4/2023 by Audi fletcher jones, costa mesa, California and advised to replace engine mounts, and both front upper control arms, total repair bill $3240. 27. After vehicle repairs the steering noises and vibration returned again with no warning lamps, or messages. The vehicle was dropped off at Audi fletcher jones, costa mesa, CA on 11/28/2023. Audi fletcher jones now states it is due to possible defective steering rack and quoted $4,237. 9 for repairs on 12/27/2023. Possible safety risk to myself and others if there is an Audi manufacture defect within the steering rack which can cause loss of steering. Steering rack failure should not be occurring on a vehicle with mileage - only 46,742 miles. Nhsta please investigate Audi of America for possible manufacture defects of engine mounts, control arms, and steering racks. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request.

We live in montana where it gets very cold on a regular basis while driving our Audi the steering wheel ceased to function and would not allow us to control the vehicle this occurred three times. A warning on the dash came up that said steering malfunction stopped vehicle but it was very scary and intimidating to know that your steering wheel could quit at any time we got stranded and took it to a dealer and they said that the steering rack computer had failed and could not get the part for at least a month since they had so many of these vehicles having the exact same issue in the united states the dealership stated that the other three dealers locally to them all were waiting on the same exact part for the same problem they charge us $6,000 to repair it I would think that if so many of the same vehicles are having the same problems that there's no parts available in the country that it should be a recall and the manufacturer should be responsible for the issue what can we do?.

The power steering on my A4 went out randomly with only 52k miles on the odometer. Thankfully it went out while the car was parked, but if it went out while I was driving it could've caused an accident. I towed it to a shop to diagnose the issue and they confirmed that the power steering rack went bad. While doing research I found that Audi extended the warranty on the steering racks for 2013-2016 model year A4s. The part number for the 2016 steering rack is shared with the 2017 steering rack as well, which means Audi should've included the 2017 model year with that extended warranty.

Ok before my previous incident it must’ve been 2 weeks ago that my car just sped up and broke on it’s on on a 65 mile road it’s to the point that I’m very hesitant to drive the car but it’s my only means of commute it’s just a total safety problem and I don’t feel safe one bit.

I was driving like normal and the stability light came on and the car started to swing left to right by it self.

Car is feeling jerky and shaky at the steering wheel when driving or sitting still. Very common problem on these cars. Will probably need new steering rack. This issue needs to become a recall. Very frustrating.

I have current issue with my Audi A4 steering rack where im driving it randomly it pull up one side or the other I have looked up that issues with the Audi A4 and alot of people are having steering rack failed where there’s space in the steering where it causes play and possible clicking noise and uneven drive alot of people have that issues with the electrical steering and for some reason Audi never recalled it even tho it’s happening rn to alot of people including me.

August of 2021. It was raining out and I drove through a puddle and my electric steering shut down. This has been a known defect for at least 10 years with Audi and NHTSA has done nothing about it.

2013 Audi A4 with a 2. 0 turbo engine approximately 62. 5k miles and up to date with all services. I was driving on the highway at highway speeds when the engine suddenly started to misfire with a partial loss of power making the car difficult to steer. At that time the check engine light was not illuminated. I was able to get off the highway and drive home about 2 miles away from when the misfires first occurred. The police did not get involved as I was able to return home. The following week the car was towed to my mechanic where it was diagnosed that cylinder 3 had a problem. At that time the check engine light illuminated. He recommended that I tow my car to the Audi dealership as they have better availability of parts. The dealer took apart the engine and diagnosed a broken piston ring which destroyed many other parts of the engine. The engine had to be replaced with a new one from the factory. Audi should be held accountable for catastrophic engine failures that may result in injury to others due to poor engine design.

Rubber boot around the electronic steering rack wore out after only 30k miles. This has caused no warning lights, and very dangerous behaviour from the steering mechanisms. To include the steering wheel locking up mid turn, and the steering wheel "stuttering" due to the electronic motor failing.

I bought the car recently and drove it on the freeway, on the way back home I noticed a shaking/vibration coming from the right side of the vehicle. It made the car very hard to control and staying in one lane was almost impossible. It swerves left to right uncontrollably at random times. I haven't taken it in to any dealership or manufacturer to check it out for me, also there's no warning lights on the dashboard at all. And I believe the owner I bought it from knew of this issue but didn't let me know so I'm really just as in the blind as well. I don't know what else to do because I can't keep driving the car with uncontrollable force and putting kids in danger or anybody else's.

They have a design defect which allows water to get into the cabin via the moon roof. They also have an electrical motherboard under the drivers feet (comfort control module) that shorts out when it gets wet (which is easy when the rain comes in from the faulty moon roof). Now I cannot un/lock my doors, operate my windows open/closed, etc. And I believe it has negatively effected my ability for brake lights to function properly. This is a widespread issue, not just on mine. They were even class action sued for the same issue with a different year model (and settled out of court, but I was not an owner of the other car year). Steering wheel randomly locked while the car was in motion. The car was almost inoperable. It was extremely dangerous and is also a safety hazard. There have been several complaints, but no recall from Audi. It needs to addressed and fixed. Lives are at risk.

Steering wheel doesn’t want stay center. Kicks left or right, in a kind of ‘notchy’ way. Almost feels like it wants to click from side to side and won’t stay centered. Vehicle was recently aligned and utilizes all oem parts.

The contact owns a 2012 Audi A4. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the check engine and low oil pressure warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the engine coils and spark plugs to be replaced. While driving after the vehicle was repaired, the vehicle experienced the same symptoms as before with the addition of loss of power steering and power brakes. The contact stated that the steering wheel was difficult to turn and difficult for the brake pedal to be depressed. The contact was unable to restart vehicle and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.

While driving, on or off the highway steering stiffens making it hard or impossible to make turns. It is a scary situation, which forced me to pull over on the highway once- I was not able to switch lanes due to the hardness of the steering wheel. This occurs randomly, at anytime or speed, even at slow speeds while driving in the neighborhood. It occurs to either side, sometimes one side of the wheel or both sides.

Vehicle all of a sudden had a warning light with the steering while driving and wheel stopped turning. This was very dangerous due to the fact that the vehicle was in motion eventually started turning back after I stopped the car and put on hazards and kept playing with steering but was still very difficult to steer. Had to tow vehicle to Audi and took a week and a few days with the car. Now after I got it for only a few days my oil sensor has gone bad after I asked them to check everything. I find this very strange.

Vehicle can suddenly and without warning become very difficult to steer. Sometimes it is nearly impossible to turn. Other times it alternates between loose and stiff, making it extremely dangerous. I have had many near-collisions in this state.

My car recently started feeling stiff while taking turns and it looks as it's been an ongoing reported issue. Nothing that has been recalled in the past however most reports are of people "fixing" the problem only for it to continously come back.

Purchased my 2013 Audi A4 in 2017 and similar to all the other complaints the steering seized sporadicly indicating it was unsafe to drive etc. . The car was towed and I after a couple weeks the problem was that the power steering module was defective. I had a new one installed at the cost of 2500$ (the dealer wanted to charge 4000$!) . The car was running smoothly until recently (it always seems to be in the winter when it becomes mild) the steering has begun to stick once again and its only a matter of time before my dash lights up notifying me the car cant be driven. This is clearly a problem as there are hundreds of complaints for the same issue. Please fix it!.

The steering wheel became difficult to make turns.

I bought this 2014 Audi A4 used in 1/2019. The car seems to have major steering and suspension issues. Although I've had it checked by professionals multiple times,?aligned multiple times, and tires rebalanced multiple, no one can determine the problem. It's hard to control the car on freeways. Sometimes it seems impossible to keep the car in a straight line. The car wanders all over the freeway. It's very dangerous. Unfortunately I'm unable to sue using the lemon law because I bought it used.

Tl- the contact own a 2013 Audi A4. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the power steering would lock without warning intermittently. The contact took the vehicle to Audi indianapolis 4610-b e 96th st, indianapolis, in 46240 (317) 853-4582 where the intermediate steering shaft was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. Jo.

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Audi A4. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, when the steering wheel became difficult to make a left turn. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated she was able to park the vehicle on the side of the road for 10 minutes. The contact she continued to drive the vehicle but has experience the failure. The contact has called local dealer van horn Volkswagen of sheboygan located at 5515 racetrack rd, sheboygan, WI 53081, (920) 457-8844, were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer has not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. Dp.

The steering wheels present temporary problems since the car was new, showing noises (like a pressure valve air leaking), and change in resistance to steering the vehicle. I've asked the dealer to check it sometimes, but they could not reproduce the problem. Last Sunday, July 21, 2019, after stopping the car, the steering wheel lost all power, stop working, and send a message not to drive the vehicle. I tow it to a dealer which recommend change the steering rack and made alignment ($2900). The car is in the dealer right now. Reading this site, I realize it may be a more generic problem, with serious safety implication, on this particular model of Audi. I have to sya that otherwise it is an excellent car.

2013 Audi A4 quattro with approx. 61k miles - the steering wheel has started to offer inconsistent resistance to driver input. The steering wheel appears to intermittently lose the electric power assist which impacts drivers ability to judge the amount of force it would take to make a turn or change a lane. Issue occurs intermittently at various speeds including the vehicle being stationary. While rotating the wheel, it feels like the steering has hit a dead end after turning a mere 20 degrees, upon additional force the steering wheel will rotate further. This behavior is intermittent which makes it hard to drive the car safely through turns and at high speeds.

As I am making a turn onto another street in town my steering wheel locks up, when I complete a turn it won't walk it's way back around, you have to force it around. I have never felt something like this before, it is definitely a safety issue.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Audi A4. While driving approximately 45 mph, the steering lost power without warning. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

I experienced rough half a dozen intermittent warnings of a "dynamic steering fault. You may still drive the vehicle. " (yellow warning symbol) while driving and making turns which lasted 15 seconds, at most before going away. During these intervals the steering became mildly stiff and notchy. Yesterday I attempted to crank the car in my driveway and it wouldn't crank but gave me the following error, "steering defective! do not drive vehicle! now the car won't start.

I noticed the steering started getting hard to turn. I took to Audi dealer they said it was fine. I said not I know my car. On the highway 2 weeks later entering a curve at high mph the car wouldn't turn. I tapped brakes several times and finally with 2 hands I could turn around curve. Very scary and barely made turn. I proceeded to home but at a turn I started the turn and the steering again stiffened so hard it sent me towards the crosswalk and luckily the brakes stopped me inches from hitting a boy on his bike. I kept hitting brakes and finally the wheel released the tension. I drove home and left it until I got an appointment at Audi dealer. I carefully drove it down to dealer and half the drive it was fine and half the drive the car I believe electronically tightened down the wheel so it was extremely difficult to turn. The car is at dealer but they still haven't figured out issue. I looked online for that same model and year and have found several issues exactly described like mine. It occurs in motion when driving and turning. I find this extremely dangerous and am worried to drive until issue found. I believe it is a computer or electrical type issue based upon my experience where it isn't happening all the time but I am not a mechanic. I find this issue really troubling. I could have easily been seriously injured or killed and I am still shaking from how close I came to running over a little boy on his bicycle. With other people saying the same issue and describing it similarly I think this is a problem with this vehicle model.

Purchase a Audi A4 2013 in February of 2019. Steering wheel is an ongoing issue with Audi electric power steering rack and needing it to be replaced. Its dangerous to drive because turning takes strength and a handful of effort. It is extremely dangerous to drive to the point where I dont want to risk my life driving the car. After researching the "electric power steering rack" issue multiple people have it. Searching youtube, and google multiple owners have the issue and as a result some dont drive or have to spend an enormous amount of money to get it fixed. It is an issue for multiple models the stiffness of the steering wheel is severe. Nearly crashed multiple times due to the stiffness and had to revert back to my older car. I want to see whether this is an ongoing issue with the "electric power steering rack" and would like to get a recall or something since this is an ongoing issue. Got it checked by dealer and they also said this is an ongoing issue but, there is no recall as of now.

Electric power steering randomly becomes inoperable leading to hard steering or wheels not returning to center. Feel can be notchy where steering assist is inconsistent as a function of steering wheel position. Issue happens randomly while car is in motion at various speeds.

Reference: 2013 Audi A4 quattro. The steering has suddenly become very stiff. Steering wheel will not return to center after making a 90 degree turn on urban streets. I must turn it back manually. I have been driving non-power steering vehicles and power steering vehicles for 60+ years. This is not the way that any steering system that I have ever driven works. I consider this a very serious safety issue that should warrant a recall of all Audi vehicles so affected.
