37 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/05/2018

While driving down the road, the power steering assist suddenly was gone. Almost hit a bicyclist on the shoulder. Could have been a fatality. Now, steering is jerky, and car is scary to drive. Doing some research on the internet, seems that this is a common problem.

38 Steering problem of the 2005 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/18/2018

After 10 years of use, turning left the rubber wheel bearing on the driver side makes a pop noise. Not from driving erradic but from typical wear and tear. Also, there is an mph check engine light that comes on but when plugged up to a code reader, no problems are found. Cars wont pass smog with check engine lights on, so this is a major concern. If there are no mechanical issues why would the check engine light come on? I think computers in luxury cars back then were a bit too advanced for their time and weren't very well thought out. Air bag had a random deployment when I popped the hood and unscrewed the pressure on the radiator fluid. Going to need this VIN added to the recall for airbags to get a new one.

39 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/03/2018

I was traveling down route 1 in NJ with my family and nearly got into a fatal accident with a tractor trailer because my steering wheel got extremely tight and needed an excessive amount of force to move. I have a colleague that also has a 2013 Audi A4 and he was telling me his car is experiencing the same steering issue. I looked it up online and apparently a lot of people with this year make and model are having the issue. This is a very serious and potentially life threatening issue. Please see the how unethical it is for this issue to be not fixed already with so many people reporting this issue.

40 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 07/23/2018

The steering wheel became stiff after 57500 miles. Very very occasionally the issue goes away. But it is persistent for most of the time. Diagnosed with no fault codes. It is a nightmare to take a right or left turn. I took the car to an outside technician twice but both the times my car did not replicate the issue. He did not believe me and thinks I'm wasting his time. This is a very serious issue if ignored. Since no one believes me, I do not what to do. The issue has become worse. Audi needs to address this issue as safety is at stake.

41 Steering problem of the 2014 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/26/2018

I was driving in the city, going at about 45 mph, then a light came on on my dashboard that said "dynamic steering: system fault. You can continue driving" . The steering wheel got a little stiff, but the I was able to keep driving. The next day, about half a mile from my house the same light turned red while I was driving at 35 mph. The steering wheel became really hard to move, almost impossible to turn to either side. Contacted Audi and they said to take the car to the dealer.

42 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/19/2018

Known TSB by Audi for problems with the steering shaft. Turning becomes difficult and happens randomly. Seems to be an electrical issue. Happens when both stationary and in motion. I fear that if this happens at a high rate of speed that I could crash.

43 Steering problem of the 2015 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/02/2018

Steering shaft is faulty. When driving this car, especially at high speeds, the steering is extremely unpredictable. At lower speeds, the steering is notchy, you can't seem to find "center" and constantly have to adjust the steering wheel to remain straight on the road. This happens while moving, on city streets and highways.

45 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/27/2018

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Audi A4. The contact stated that the while driving at various speeds the power steering would suddenly malfunction and the steering wheel would become very difficult to turn in either direction. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer Audi of farmington hills, mi. Was notified of the failure but the manufacturer was not. The failure mileage was 91,000. Jft.

46 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/07/2018

13 Audi A4 with approx 56k miles - the steering wheel has started offer inconsistent resistance to driver input. The steering wheel appears to intermittently lose the electric power assist which impacts drivers ability to judge the amount of force it would take to make a turn or change a lane. Issue occurs intermittently at various speeds including the vehicle being stationary. While rotating the wheel, it feels like the steering has hit a dead end after turning a meagre 20 degrees, upon additional force the steering wheel will rotate further. This behavior is intermittent which makes it hard to drive the car safely through turns and at high speeds.

47 Steering problem of the 2012 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/02/2018

Since purchasing my cpo Audi with extended maintenance package & I have immaculate repair records. It's glaringly clear now that the dealership avoided diagnosising my repeated complaints about steering vibration feedback. Countless dollars spent on alignments & rim, tires changes. My steering has completely decayed to hazardous conditions and no Audi support on recalling this issue. Feels like a crosswind pushing car on highways, notching is so bad that it requires muscle endurance to turn it while doing k turns now. Just out of warranty & finding out about this obvious defect of manufacturing that should have been recalled a long time ago. No fix available that is a guaranteed success. Truly disgusted. 90,000 miles outright fraud! please do something about this before someone is killed.

48 Steering problem of the 2016 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/16/2018

The electrical power steering became defective while driving down the road at 75 mph. The steering wheel locked up and pulled to the right, nearly causing a high speed collision with a semi. The error message "steering is defective, do not drive vehicle" displayed and has not gone away.

49 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

Drive home with my wife and loss all control of steering it almost got us killed and may be more, car has always been keep in garage and driven very little car has only 24. K miles on it. Had aaa to pick it up and take it to dealership ( Audi of dayton). Looking on line and doing some checking it looks like I am not the only one,do we wait untill somebody gets killed before a recall is done?.

50 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

My 2013 Audi A4 quattro has 52,346 miles. This week, while driving at any speed, I experienced significant restriction in the steering while turning the wheel to change lanes and make turns right and left. I immediately contacted my local Audi dealer and took the car in for inspection. The service tech confirmed that there is a serious problem with the intermediate steering shaft which is causing the stiffness and binding that is interfering with the free movement of the universal joints. The only solution is to replace the intermediate steering shaft. Furthermore, I've since ascertained that Audi has a "technical service bulletin" regarding this issue dating to July 10, 2014 covering a number of Audi models and model years but has not instituted a recall. (see attached) in addition, I was informed by the dealership representative that the specific part is currently on backorder and may take from two weeks to two months. He led me to believe that there are as many as thirty (30) customers awaiting this particular part. I have been added me to the wait list. I asked the service tech about the safety issue and if it's at all possible that I could experience total steering loss while driving. He said that although that's not likely, in an emergency situation where I may need to swerve to avoid an accident that the steering response could become an issue. My major concern is do I drive the car while waiting for the part? Audi is not at this moment providing any assistance in the way of a loaner vehicle so I'm on my own. I've uploaded the technical service bulletin.

51 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/07/2018

The contact owns a 2013 Audi A4. While driving approximately 55 mph and attempting to turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence and then to the dealer (maguire Audi, 370 elmira road, ithaca, new york). The dealer diagnosed that the steering shaft was severely corroded and needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

52 Steering problem of the 2015 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

Steering is locking up/becomes hard to turn while driving. This almost cause me to crash as I could not turn easily in an intersection. I recently had the car serviced (in the last month) regarding a heater recall. About 3 weeks later this problem started to occur out of the blue. No warning lights have come on.

53 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 02/10/2018

After two test drives we purchased a used Audi A4 on 2/10/2018. While test driving we didn't notice any issues with steering, but the following day with my family in the car we nearly side swiped a tractor trailer on the i80 ohio turnpike. The straight line steering in this vehicle is completely unpredictable, scary and downright dangerous at any speeds above 20+ mph. Nhtsa issued a vehicle safety recall to replace the auxiliary heater, I guess I don't understand how the auxiliary heater is more dangerous than this steering problem. Steering complaints clearly outnumber other complaints on this website, but search outside of this site and see just how widespread this problem is. Audi is well aware of the issue, a TSB has been issued for software changes and steering rack, neither address the issue, and both are at the customer expense. It's time for NHTSA to acknowledge the steering complaints and issue the safety recall that should've been issued years ago. Let's do it before a family is killed.

54 Steering problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/20/2017

Driving home from work, all of a sudden my vehicle was revving while it was idle and at low speed, making it very difficult and dangerous to steer the car and keep it under control. Upon inspection, it was found that the timing chain tensioner had failed and had caused serious engine damage, causing the pistons to fire prematurely. Previously the tensioner was replaced in 2014 by Audi when the car had ~50k miles and was reported as a "weak tensioner". My car currently has 92k miles. I believe that no replacement tensioner should only last 40k miles and cause catastrophic engine failure and put consumers at risk of not being able to control their cars.

55 Steering problem of the 2014 Audi A4

Failure Date: 10/25/2017

"Audi steering problem" at highway speeds the steering becomes stiff when changing lanes and it does not respond to going back to the center of lane right away it gives resistance it wants to keep going on to the last direction the steering was going it has gradually gotten worst even on city streets normal driving I could feel resistance the steering feels stiff and heavy the steering wanders from straight path on highway the steering sometimes goes against direction you want car to go causing a moment of panic god forbid a fatality occurs took it to service Audi driving test we came back they did diagnostic they said the computer says nothing wrong it seems to me they set computer with low safety standard they are trying to cover this up someone of authority needs to step in and hold them accountable I see many same complaints on consumer websites please helps us against this potential and fatal hazard.

56 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Bought my 2013 Audi A4 used I notice a notchy feel while driving just after I bought it, but thought this was normal. As time went on it became more uncomfortable and felt unsafe driving at highway speeds(or slow speeds) when your steering wheel would move to the left & right while driving. I did some research and there are plenty more people with this problem, seems like a safety problem that needs to be a recall and Audi knows about the problem but wants you to pay for a software update that might cost you $150 - $200. . . . . . Please help get this recalled by Audi!.

57 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/05/2017

The steering wheel would lock up in certain spots and become difficult to turn while driving or at rest. There is a current TSB for this issue TSB#-48-14-61 and it involves replacing the intermediate steering shaft. This should be characterized as a safety issue due to the unpredictability of occurences while in motion especially at high speeds and while cornering. If there are enough complaints to release a TSB and it involves steering at high speeds I feel there should be a recall on this part.

58 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

Electric power steering is notchy or non existent at times. Have had the entire rack replaced and recalibrated. It lasted about two weeks before the problem comes back. No check engine light or warning light. Has power steering at times then sends the car all over without warning. Very unsafe.

59 Steering problem of the 2014 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

My A4 constantly pulls to the right. I have replaced the tires, the rotors and brakes, and had Audi do an alignment. The vehicle still pulls to the right.

60 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

The issue appeared in cold weather. When stationary the issue look like a 'zone', located approximately every 90 degrees when you turn wheel right/left, where the wheel is 'jamming' and driver have to apply an excessive force to turn the steering wheel further or back to neutral. In motion the issue look like 'jammed wheel': it's hard to turn wheel more than 90 degrees right/left and. . . If it's already rotated and 'in the zone', it require an excessive force to turn the wheel back to neutral. The wheel will not return to center position themselves as it does when steering behave normally. Overall issue feels like failing power assist.

61 Steering problem of the 2017 Audi A4

Failure Date: 11/08/2016

A few days ago I had an accident. I made a left turn onto the expressway ramp at 42 mph. The road was wet and Audi in the middle of the turn activated “precrash sensors” and began to brake hard and the system locked the steering wheel. The car was completely uncontrollable and crashed the front wheel into the high curb, which damaged the wheels, rim and axles. The Audi exchange dealership in IL checked and the sensors are functioning properly. They claimed that I imagine things that do not exist as they said it was impossible for the car to take control and to brake the car. They also said I do not have theses feature on the car, but the car is so equipped with this technology. ( because many times it happened to me out of the car started to brake without a reason to brake, when I tried to go around bikers at the safe distance, or when parking. When I made the complaint in the Audi dealer they told me that this is not possible, and laughed in June). I am aware that I was moving fast but from my experience I know that I could do this turn without an accident. Previously I owned a 2013 BMW 528 xdrive and the car several times slip on the snow and I could control the car still. I believe the presense sensors activates the collision avoidance system resulting in a loss of control in the car and subsequent accident.

62 Steering problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 07/23/2016

My car has a leaking high pressure fuel leak from the high pressure hose right at the top of the engine block at the rear of the engine. The steel line connects directly to the filter and is leaking from the stainless steal line. The power steering metal hose lines are incorrect from the factory and do not supply enough pressure in the line to keep the steering wheel from a very harsh low speed shudder when turning. The lower control arm bushings fail at very low mileage. None of these issues have been acknowledged on this year car. This model Audi is an absolute lemon having multiple issues and extreme repairs and huge costs when trying to fix them. I have the paper work for these fixes and what it takes to repair them correctly. I have already had this car repaired from Audi for the piston ring oil failure which they had to replace per the lawsuit they were hit with and still denied any wrong doing. Please force this company to right these issues they ignored in the face of profits instead of doing right by the consumer.

63 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

Audi A4 2013. The car will not stay centered in the lane on the highway. It wanders off center without any change in the road or position of the steering wheel. It constantly feels like it is being buffeted in a heavy wind. . When I turn to correct, the car overshoots and I have to turn back again to center it. Software upgrade did not fix the problem. This is dangerous, as the car drifts from side to side with the steering wheel held steady. Dealer says this is normal for Audi cars. Not true, as I drove a 2017 A4 with no steering issues at all. This is a problem with the electromechanical steering.

64 Steering problem of the 2014 Audi A4

Failure Date: 01/16/2016

Over the course of the last 3-month to current. Sometime, the steering wheel becomes loose while driving (easily moves no response), like it is un-aware of where the front tires are or the steering disengages with the car, then it catches and turns into the lane and realizes the position of the steering wheel. I believe this is called "notchy. " on-going, from day to day.

65 Steering problem of the 2012 Audi A4

Failure Date: 12/26/2015

Steering wheel shimmies/vibrates. The vibration is very noticeable at low speeds when the steering wheel is being turned. It may occur at higher speeds but it cannot be detected since roads are not smooth. The current updated hose -- not sure which one -- was oem on car but at 28583 miles the "servotronic valve/converter" was replaced and problem corrected for a time. Original problem has returned and continues during and after the warranty period -- I. E. , problem has been present starting with the purchase in 2011 and is still present at 12/26/2015. Audi authorized service center confirmed with Audi that this is a defect in the manufacture of the car and is present in other 2012 Audi cars. Safety of drivers is being compromised.

66 Steering problem of the 2009 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/18/2015

When driving car it becomes really difficult at times to turn the steering wheel. Off and on. I myself almost hit someone when making a turn at around 20 mph, I had to brake and turn with both hands using alot of force. Has happened multiple times with my daughter as well. Started happening the end of last year. Called dealers and they said there are no recalls on vehicle.

67 Steering problem of the 2013 Audi A4

Failure Date: 06/11/2015

Like many other complaints I have read on this website, my Audi has a significant "notchy" feeling in the steering wheel which has grown considerably worse in the last several days. It started right when the car was new. It is like the wheel is fighting against my efforts to steer it, especially to the right. The vehicle was serviced about a year for the same complaint and was better for a while, but much worse now.

68 Steering problem of the 2011 Audi A4

Failure Date: 04/26/2015

Ignition coils went out. Car stopped on busy street but was able to move to side street. Come to find out after I purchased the car the coils were recalled. . Spoke with someone at Audi and they verified there was a recall on the coils. No one notified me including the dealership gurley leep and he did not notify me and I had to come out of $1,000 to have that process fixed then I had to turn around less than 24 hours again and something was wrong with the steering again I had to come out of another $1,000 this is b******* someone should have contacted me about the problems with the vehicle but that did not happen so to Audi and to gurley leep screw you that was $2,000 I came out of. No help from Audi nor dealership what so ever. . And I do believe I still have the transcript from the Audi representative that verify there was something wrong with the ignition coils. . . . Not sure of the exact date but I believe it was April of 2015.

70 Steering problem of the 2005 Audi A4

Failure Date: 08/29/2014

Stopped on a hill at a stop light, went to go and car lunged forward and died. Had to immediately apply brakes, car started again. Has happened multiple times. We are second owner, have only had the car for a year and found that the transmission control module for this vehicle was already replaced at 49,000 miles - under warranty to other owner. Now, at 130k miles we are being told it has to be replaced again. It is a danger to drive as they said the transmission could fail or even the gears could slip causing danger to the passengers. This particular model of Audi transmission, known as "multitronic" or "cvt" has numerous complaints and failures. We paid 12k for this car used and have a major malfunction within a year.
