36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/20/2024

The vehicle oil level low light comes on every 600 miles (excessive oil consumption). I purchased the vehicle in July 2021, and in 2 weeks I had an oil-level light. I called Audi regarding the condition, they talked with the dealership regarding the issue and came back in 2 weeks and stated that the recall was up to 2011. I would like Audi to pay to repair my vehicle, because is a known problem which should have been resolved. Oil change on 1/12/24; had to put oil in on 2/20/24.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/10/2024

My SUV had stopped heating/defrosting and vehicles car charging ports appear to not be working any longer. It was discovered that my coolant pump was blocked with debris. The heat has returned, still no power to the charge points in vehicle. While driving on highway, my vehicles dash started to light up instructing me to turn off engine coolant low (electric). However, my h c coolant gauge was just below midpoint. It appears to be a bit faulty. Nonetheless, I pulled off highway and asked a local car supplier store and mechanic shop to look, they reported that it appears to be leaking coolant inside the vehicle puddling the coolant in the undercarriage of the vehicle not leaving any visible signs of leaks on driveway. Please advise.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 02/09/2024

The engine stopped working at 72,000 miles. After the fact, I have read several complaints of the engine blowing well under 100,000 miles. Audi does not give warranties on engines after 50,000 miles. . . How convenient! in addition, insurance will not cover this. I have read several complaints about engines blowing just after 50,000 miles. To have the 2018 Audi Q5 engine repaired with the new engine is $11,000 plus the labor $3,000-$4,000. Unfortunately, I still owe $19,000 to the bank! bankruptcy is looming and I have had near-perfect credit my entire life.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 01/08/2024

On 12-18-2024, I brought a Audi Q5 2020 from lynbrook Audi dealership in new york, approximately weeks after the vehicle engine oil light came on to replenish engine oil. I notified the sales representative of the issue, he stated that the vehicle was serviced on 09-2023. After our conversation the vehicle engine oil light continue to light up for oil replenish every 2 to 3 weeks for the past 7 months, I contacted the manufacturer and dealership and both of them is pointing fingers at each other instead of fixing the vehicle. Every time the engine oil light came on I have to take the vehicle to the dealership to replenish. The problem was never resolved.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 12/21/2023

Car started running hot, had mechanic do pressure/ leak test and he couldn’t find a leak. Took it to Audi and they said the coolant pump and thermostat housing were leaking coolant. I’ve researched and it looks like these cars have know coolant pump issues.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 12/20/2023

Vehicle had first oil change at 10k miles on 1/1/2023 in April of 2023 started noticing smoke and a burning smell coming out of the engine, took car in to dealership. They stated on 4/25/2023 that there was a "small oil leak," and that they repaired and cleaned up the leakage but they wanted to drive the vehicle once more before they released it to me. I have this all in a text message. 12/20/2023 took vehicle in for 20k service and they said there is a major leakage they said in a video they sent "found lots of oil on top of the engine, the bolts that hold the cambridge (not sure if thats what he said/spelling) down are loose, so we will be pulling this all apart and resealing and replacing all those bolts to fix those leaks".

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 10/03/2023

We purchased a new 2023 Audi Q5 at the Audi dealer at wesley chapel. On October 3, we noticed a malfunctioning indicator light on the dashboard. We took the vehicle back to the dealer to fix the problem. One of the service agents told us, everything was good, just a software update. I also notified the problem to manufacturing company and still no solution. It has been 4 months since when the problem occurred. The malfunction indicator lamp is on all the time when we turn the engine on and while driving. There are a lot of safety concerns while driving.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/17/2023

Faulty pistons, piston rings and piston heads responsible for excessive oil consumption. Excessive oil consumption occurs because the combustion chamber is not properly sealed off from the Audi turbo engine parts that need to remain lubricated. Because of inadequate lubrication, fragments of the piston rings flow through the Audi 2l turbo engines and damage important components. As a result, our 2015 Audi Q5is at risk for immediate loss of engine power. There is currently a class action law suit against Audi for this problem for cars in this year range, but nothing has been solved. Audi's answer to this problem is to bring the car in every 300-500 miles for free oil top offs. This does not solve the underlying problem nor eliminate the deadly risk of total engine failure. People are driving around in vehicles at risk for complete failure. The Audi dealership states that to replace piston rings, it will cost between $10,000 and $12,000. Absolutely unsafe and unacceptable.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/16/2023

Car worked fine with no signs of any issues or concerns. I stopped at a light and the car turned off as the start-stop system normally does. However when the light went green, the car would refuse to start flashing "steering malfunction, do not drive". . . I'm at a light on a highway, what do you mean "do not drive"! the power steering was completely lost and it seems because of it, the entire system would refuse to allow the car to even start. The car had to eventually be pushed off the highway after causing an incredible amount of traffic and then towed. I contacted Audi and they appear to know about this issue, however will only warranty a very specific fault code, and will not honor any other faults in the system or any car that doesn't have a perfect history. Estimated cost to repair this absurd faulty steering rack according to online sources is almost $4000. Audi even recalled this system on they're higher package cars like the sq5 but still wont recall this system in the Q5 line up.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/09/2023

Vehicle: 2015 Audi Q5 2. 0t VIN: [xxx] at around 70,000 miles, my vehicle began consuming engine oil abnormally. I received a low-oil warning and had to add 1 quart every 1,000 miles. I first approached an authorized Audi dealer at 75,000 miles, who inspected the vehicle and stated this was “normal for older vehicles” and found no issues. However, the problem worsened rapidly. By 79,000 miles, I visited a second Audi dealer who acknowledged that this was a common problem in this engine type. They quoted me $16,000–$20,000 for a full engine replacement, stating they could not replace pistons alone. At 80,000 miles, my car now consumes 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. The oil warning light comes on frequently. I am forced to carry oil and top off multiple times per week. This is not normal wear for a luxury vehicle with regular maintenance. This condition creates multiple safety risks: •sudden engine seizure or power loss if oil runs too low, especially while driving at highway speeds. •loss of steering/brake assist due to oil pressure failure. •increased fire risk from leaks or overheating. •frequent roadside stops to add oil, risking exposure to traffic. •distraction while driving due to monitoring oil levels. •environmental hazard from oil spills. The engine remains available for inspection. The vehicle has only been inspected by Audi dealerships. Audi should be held accountable for a defect that compromises safety and reliability at relatively low mileage. I urge NHTSA to investigate and take appropriate action. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/04/2023

In 2017 while driving in 10 degree weather, the overheat warning light and message to turn off engine came in. The car was not actually overheating and we took it straight to the dealership. They were not able to get it to replicate and advised it was possibly a faulty sensor. Fast forward to fall of 2023, the same warning light came on as soon as the car was turned on. Still no actual overheating per the dial in the car. We did check the coolant level and it was low. Dealership looked at and stated the didn't see any leaks and suggested replacing thermostat. Took to another shop and they found a small leak in the water pump so we had it replaced. Car has less than 60k miles on it. Engine failure, fire are all concerns. Especially when commuting at high speeds on a highway. We're either dealing with a faulty water pump or thermostat.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

My Q5 requires an additional quart of oil approximately every 500-1000 miles since purchased in early August . Services included two oil changes, replacement of pan gasket and fill tube o-ring. No drips on the ground, just a minimum level reading every 30 days. That definitely should not be happening without some plausible explanation other than "that's what german cars do. I have a BMW and the same issue. " it was not disclosed that I would have to purchase a monthly supply oil motor oil in addition to the cost of the vehicle.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/26/2023

I was riding the car and all of a sudden tv my car stopped right in the middle of the street, totally shut down and non of the keys were working not even the hazard lights to alert other cars to turn around me. So I had to get out of my car right in the middle of the street to let the other cars to move away . I finally got back in the car, tried on and off switch couple of times and finally engine started . Audi took the car and they are saying it’s alternator failed and they have replaced it.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/12/2023

Engine shuts off while driving at highway speeds. No engine warning light comes on, just complete lack of power. Need to pull off, put car in park and restart. Happens more often in colder weather, but is very sporadic. Audi said it was fuel issue. It is not. Jundreds of gas fill-ups with all different brands. This has been happening for years, and began within months of purchasing the car. It is getting more and more frequent. There is no fault code associated with it when I've brought it in for diagnostics. Very disconcerting when driving 75mph in left lane, and you experience a complete loss of power. Last incident was August 12, 2023.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 08/08/2023

On 8/8/2023 my vehicle was outside in the driveway of our home in truro, MA. A large storm moved through the area with torrential rain and lightning. Once the rain let up I looked out the window to find all 4 windows down 4-6 inches, the rear hatch was opened with the rear wiper and high middle brake light on. When I ran outside to close the windows etc. I could not start the car the mmi did not come on and I could only get 3 of the windows up. I had to manually close the rear hatch. I put a tarp over the drivers side window that wouldn't close and had aaa come out. They assessed that it was not a battery issue bit an electrical module issue. I filed a claim with my insurance and after waiting for the adjuster to look at the car I had aaa tow it to an Audi dealership. They ran a diagnostic test on it and found water had caused the comfort module and associated wiring to fail. The estimate to fix the issues was is nearly $12,000. Because of the cost my insurance company is sending another adjuster out to inspect the issues at the dealership. There were no prior issues or symptoms before this issue took place.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 07/17/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Audi Q5. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, there was an abnormal burning odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact checked the oil and coolant levels and became aware that the coolant level was very low. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after filling the coolant reservoir the odor went away. The contact stated that the odor returned, and the coolant level was very low. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 17v002000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 07/12/2023

My 2018 Audi Q5 had the 5-year/50,000 mile factory recommended service in August 2022, the vehicle only hadwith 42,000 miles and everything was perfect as it was the last year of the five year service extended contract. In July 2023 I was told the engine mounts needed to be replaced. Both mounts and vehicle has 53,000 miles. Basically mounts cannot the engine and transmission in place . This recommendation was done as part of the 60,000 mile recommended factory service based on my google research. Many Audis have disorder failure which is which can be catastrophic because there are no warning lights for the engine mount failure when the car auto stops and starts it shakes. This has hung always been a standard, but annoying feature of the car, which cannot be turned off for emission purposes. Clearly the engine mounts cannot handle the auto start/stop of the vehicle. That’s why it’s failing for so many vehicles. It is frustrating given that the car is a $54,000 car and at 53,000 miles I run the risk of the engine falling on the ground , this information is widely available on the internet easily accessible on google. I ask that you please look into it. Thank you for your time always . What is bizarre is that now when I accelerate hard, I can feel a little vibration of the engine before I didn’t but that’s something I cannot explain at the moment. The dealer that sold me the car brand new is the only dealership that has ever touched my car, and my car was always serviced as recommended once a year.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 07/05/2023

My wife and I were in the 2023 Audi Q5 with 1000 miles. I had complained to the dealer and manufacturer that this car was unsafe to drive. On June 9, 2023 I was driving slowly in my community. I tried to stop at a stop sign. No brakes then at the same time the car had unintended sudden acceleration. We had no control, no brakes and hit a fence and shrubbery and cement fence. All airbags deployed.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 06/28/2023

The check engine light came on so I stopped at the nearest auto repair shop and the codes came back that the thermostat was sticking partially closed and the water pump was leaking.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 06/10/2023

When I reached approximately 101,000 miles my low oil indicator yellow light came on. The car does not have a dipstick so I could not manually check this. I thought the oil level sensor was broken, as I have not had this light come on in the first 101,000 miles. I regularly change the oil according to manufacturer guidelines of every 10k miles. Eventually the red low oil level light came on and the car told me to add oil. I went and had the oil changed and they told me there was only 2. 9 quarts of oil remaining in the car when they changed it. Obviously the car is buring oil as I have no indicated leaks on my garage floor or driveway. I note this is an issue on many online forums. If the negine were to sieze at speed while driving it will be very dangerous.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/22/2023

I have a 2019 Audi Q5 with under 24k miles over the past 4 years of new vehicle ownership. There have been 5+ instances where I am driving under normal conditions and suddenly the vehicle jerks abruptly, slows down to half the original speed (from 65 mph on freeway to 30 mph), gear shifting becomes irregular and the following indicators appear on the dashboard: 1) check engine light, 2) vehicle repair required 3) warning icon w/ triangle around and exclamation point. "drive system malfunction" note appears on screen. Ignition cycling may temporarily remove the warning indicator lights, however the same exact issue happens once I'm back on the road - sometimes only driving at 20 mph through residential streets. I have taken the vehicle into Audi service centers for immediate repair after each incident, only to have this become a recurring issue. This is an extremely dangerous situation where a vehicle could unexpectedly reduce speeds and potentially result in traffic accidents. I have found many internet posts on this same exact issue which are major concerns of Audi owners.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/16/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Audi Q5. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was started, there was a loud whistling sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the breather valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,900.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/16/2023

This vehicle has electrical issues. This vehicle waterpump failed twice which I had to repair this vehicle gives warning sign’drive system malfuction’ codes directing to turbo charger but it is actually the wastegate thats the issue-which I had replaced after throwing a new turbo. This vehicle has issues with thermostat which I had replaced twice. I have payed all repairs out of pocket and until today there is no recall. Someone please take a look into this matter any information needed from me or my mechanic I can be contacted via email -: ulbin420@icloud. Com.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2014 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 05/04/2023

The car has a known "oil consumption issue" that has led to engine failure that Audi has failed to take responsibility for. This is a 2104 Audi Q5. The car is in san francisco and available for inspection. The car vibrates and can't be safely driven at highway speeds, if the engine suddenly lost power on the highway it could be a major safety issue for the driver and other drivers. The dealer has reproduced the issue and diagnosed it as needing new pistons and rings at 99,000 miles (but it has had this issue since in the 60,000 mile range, they just said keep adding oil). It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives, just the dealers. I'm sure some warning lights came on, but could not say which ones or when.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 04/20/2023

My 2018 Audi Q5 has a water intrusion issue with control module damage. The vehicle reduce speed to 15 mph on the highway, when parked the lights would not shut off. The vehicle would then not turn on. Thirty minutes later the vehicle started. I received a front passenger seatbelt malfunction and several controls went out. The passenger seatbelt would not recognize there was a passenger buckled in the seat. The lights stayed on. The windshield wipers started on their own. The car wouldn’t recognize the key fob. Later the turn signal malfunctioned, along with the front lights staying on but the rear light and license plate light would not come on. At the dealership they found water in the comfort module housing, left rear quarter panel/wheelbase and said it was probably caused by the pressure vent seal allowing water to enter damaging the comfort module and 56 wires. They stated the vehicle was unsafe and inoperable. They also were not able to roll the windows back up or lock and secure my vehicle. The issues with the vehicle speed occurred 5 weeks ago. The dealership changed the thermostat but the speed reduction happened again afterwards once but when it was turned off and turned back on the speed went back to normal. Then today the vehicle just went crazy with things turning on and other controls not working, like the taillights. Multiple times I have told the dealership of the seatbelt malfunction. They said it was probably the seat detecting something on the seat, like a bag but couldn’t account for the malfunction when the seat was occupied. The vehicle is now at the dealership with plastic taped around the opened windows and unsecured since the locking controls will not work. They suggested I file a claim with my insurance for the repair. This screams defect to me!.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Audi Q5

Failure Date: 04/20/2023

On 21 April 2023 while driving on a highway, the us specification 2023 Audi Q5 engine began to make noise and a yellow engine warning light came on. During the process of moving the vehicle off the highway to a safe location to stop, the engine began to progressively lose power and the noise became much more noticeable and distinctly sounded like metal on metal. The Audi repair shop provided a report of diagnostic tests run but did not open the engine for further inspection. The repair shop ordered a replacement engine. Due to delays in delivery of a replacement engine, the vehicle is still at the repair shop five weeks after the incident. The vehicle had less that 550 miles (900 kilometers) on the odometer and had been in service only one month from delivery. The vehicle was sold by Audi USA through military auto source direct to the user in germany. The vehicle was used only in germany and is presently at the Audi repair shop in germany (autohaus lutz, vaihinger str. 91, 70567 stuttgart, germany). Based upon cursory research of existing recall issues for this model vehicle, the problem appears very similar to a connecting rod failure identified for engines manufactured in a prior period. Attempts to work with Audi USA to identify if this is indeed the same connecting rod problem and attempts to obtain confirmation that this engine was checked/tested for the known connecting rod issue both have proved unsuccessful. The local Audi repair shop has not been forthcoming with details of what specifically caused the engine failure or actions that Audi is taking to identify the source of the problem. This is being brought to the attention of the NHTSA because this may be a continuation of the connecting rod issue previously identified and declared resolved by Audi.
