Vehicle stopped while driving!!! middle of the driving. Very dangerous. And it happened twice. With that as the headline, another known problem with this vehicle has been the engine oil needing to be filled literally every month. And time to time it resulted in “engine light” to come. So we kind of ended up in a “wolf cry” and really didn’t act. However, we did take care to Audi service for oil refill and they ignored to do the inspection on engine light well under 100,000 miles and 10yrs on warranty. So our recent car stopped when we were just about 2 months over 10yrs and 3,000 miles over 100,000 mile warranty Audi has for the problem needs repaired. Please help. Now Audi is saying we needed to pay almost $6,000 to get that repaired. Which they have seen for months prior to the 10yrs and 100,000. It’s really a unfair business practice.

2012 Audi Q5 2. 0 engine failure 72,000 miles the dealership performed a tear down of my engine and had an inspector from Audi care come to inspect the damaged engine. It was determined the tensioner /timing chain caused the engine failure. Prior to the inspection, I did research and informed the service manager at the dealership that there was a known issue regarding this exact problem. He said he would have to perform the tear down to determine the cause. He contacted me to confirm it was indeed the cause. Now after more research, I saw there was a class action lawsuit regarding this exact issue. It was settled in 20/& or 2019 , I believe I bought my car in 2020, from an Audi dealership. Who I now assume should have been aware of this known issue and class action settlement. I would like to report this past known issue to the ntsba. I am being told I will have to pay a large amount of money after my extended warranty will only cover a portion of the repair. This was a known problem which could have put me in danger of the engine seizing will operating the vehicle.

On may 3, 2024, while driving to work, the vehicle acutely started to make a loud clicking noise in the engine compartment. I parked the vehicle and looked for a warning light indicator on the dashboard to determine the problem, but no indicator light emerged. I then called Audi omaha and spoke with the service manager who kindly arranged to have my vehicle picked up and a loaner dropped off. I did ask at that time whether it was safe to have somebody drive my vehicle to Audi given the severity of the noise and I was told that since there was not a warning light on the dashboard, it would be ok. I later discovered that my vehicle stalled on the way to Audi omaha and required a tow. On may 6, 2024, I received a report of the problem and the estimate for repairs. It was explained that the head of a spark plug had broken off into the engine causing the piston to make contact with the valve in cylinder 3 resulting in engine damage which was beyond repair. Additionally, a second spark plug had been misfiring for several days. The estimate to replace the engine: $9,282. 03. To my surprise, the multi-point vehicle inspection report I received on the same day reported that everything (aside from rear brake pad wear) passed inspection – including the engine and spark plugs! on may 7, 2024, I called Audi omaha to express my concern that an entire engine would need replaced on a 6-year old luxury vehicle with only 60,000 miles and spark plugs that were replaced at 40,000 miles prior to my purchase of the vehicle. Even more concerning is that no warning light indictor ever displayed on the dashboard (despite being informed that the vehicles computer system had detected changes in the engine compartment 2-days prior to this event). Because of these glaring safety concerns, this issue was escalated to the Audi central region division who declined to provide assistance despite the faulty spark plug and the malfunction of the warning indicator light.

3 times while driving engine stalled. Car will restart after coasting off road & restarting it. Been to two Audi dealers under warranty. Car displayed no fault code. Only happens occasionally so neither dealer has seen the problem to fix it. My wife has video of the last engine stall but still no fix. We don’t trust or feel car is safe to drive.

The contact owns a 2014 Audi Q5. The contact stated that while driving at 10 mph, the vehicle lost motive power. The engine and epc warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who stated that the failure was due to the timing chain, piston rings, and a hole in the valve. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
The vehicle oil level low light comes on every 600 miles (excessive oil consumption). I purchased the vehicle in July 2021, and in 2 weeks I had an oil-level light. I called Audi regarding the condition, they talked with the dealership regarding the issue and came back in 2 weeks and stated that the recall was up to 2011. I would like Audi to pay to repair my vehicle, because is a known problem which should have been resolved. Oil change on 1/12/24; had to put oil in on 2/20/24.

My SUV had stopped heating/defrosting and vehicles car charging ports appear to not be working any longer. It was discovered that my coolant pump was blocked with debris. The heat has returned, still no power to the charge points in vehicle. While driving on highway, my vehicles dash started to light up instructing me to turn off engine coolant low (electric). However, my h c coolant gauge was just below midpoint. It appears to be a bit faulty. Nonetheless, I pulled off highway and asked a local car supplier store and mechanic shop to look, they reported that it appears to be leaking coolant inside the vehicle puddling the coolant in the undercarriage of the vehicle not leaving any visible signs of leaks on driveway. Please advise.

The engine stopped working at 72,000 miles. After the fact, I have read several complaints of the engine blowing well under 100,000 miles. Audi does not give warranties on engines after 50,000 miles. . . How convenient! in addition, insurance will not cover this. I have read several complaints about engines blowing just after 50,000 miles. To have the 2018 Audi Q5 engine repaired with the new engine is $11,000 plus the labor $3,000-$4,000. Unfortunately, I still owe $19,000 to the bank! bankruptcy is looming and I have had near-perfect credit my entire life.
Oil consumption burns a lot of oil.
Motor mount leaking hydraulic fluid.
On 12-18-2024, I brought a Audi Q5 2020 from lynbrook Audi dealership in new york, approximately weeks after the vehicle engine oil light came on to replenish engine oil. I notified the sales representative of the issue, he stated that the vehicle was serviced on 09-2023. After our conversation the vehicle engine oil light continue to light up for oil replenish every 2 to 3 weeks for the past 7 months, I contacted the manufacturer and dealership and both of them is pointing fingers at each other instead of fixing the vehicle. Every time the engine oil light came on I have to take the vehicle to the dealership to replenish. The problem was never resolved.

Car started running hot, had mechanic do pressure/ leak test and he couldn’t find a leak. Took it to Audi and they said the coolant pump and thermostat housing were leaking coolant. I’ve researched and it looks like these cars have know coolant pump issues.
Vehicle had first oil change at 10k miles on 1/1/2023 in April of 2023 started noticing smoke and a burning smell coming out of the engine, took car in to dealership. They stated on 4/25/2023 that there was a "small oil leak," and that they repaired and cleaned up the leakage but they wanted to drive the vehicle once more before they released it to me. I have this all in a text message. 12/20/2023 took vehicle in for 20k service and they said there is a major leakage they said in a video they sent "found lots of oil on top of the engine, the bolts that hold the cambridge (not sure if thats what he said/spelling) down are loose, so we will be pulling this all apart and resealing and replacing all those bolts to fix those leaks".
Timing chain went out.
Thermostat failed causing the engine to overheat causing veh to unable to reach required rpm’s.
The contact owns a 2013 Audi Q5. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing an abnormal oil consumption. The low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that she had been adding a quart of oil to the vehicle every 200 miles driven. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
We purchased a new 2023 Audi Q5 at the Audi dealer at wesley chapel. On October 3, we noticed a malfunctioning indicator light on the dashboard. We took the vehicle back to the dealer to fix the problem. One of the service agents told us, everything was good, just a software update. I also notified the problem to manufacturing company and still no solution. It has been 4 months since when the problem occurred. The malfunction indicator lamp is on all the time when we turn the engine on and while driving. There are a lot of safety concerns while driving.

Faulty pistons, piston rings and piston heads responsible for excessive oil consumption. Excessive oil consumption occurs because the combustion chamber is not properly sealed off from the Audi turbo engine parts that need to remain lubricated. Because of inadequate lubrication, fragments of the piston rings flow through the Audi 2l turbo engines and damage important components. As a result, our 2015 Audi Q5is at risk for immediate loss of engine power. There is currently a class action law suit against Audi for this problem for cars in this year range, but nothing has been solved. Audi's answer to this problem is to bring the car in every 300-500 miles for free oil top offs. This does not solve the underlying problem nor eliminate the deadly risk of total engine failure. People are driving around in vehicles at risk for complete failure. The Audi dealership states that to replace piston rings, it will cost between $10,000 and $12,000. Absolutely unsafe and unacceptable.

Car worked fine with no signs of any issues or concerns. I stopped at a light and the car turned off as the start-stop system normally does. However when the light went green, the car would refuse to start flashing "steering malfunction, do not drive". . . I'm at a light on a highway, what do you mean "do not drive"! the power steering was completely lost and it seems because of it, the entire system would refuse to allow the car to even start. The car had to eventually be pushed off the highway after causing an incredible amount of traffic and then towed. I contacted Audi and they appear to know about this issue, however will only warranty a very specific fault code, and will not honor any other faults in the system or any car that doesn't have a perfect history. Estimated cost to repair this absurd faulty steering rack according to online sources is almost $4000. Audi even recalled this system on they're higher package cars like the sq5 but still wont recall this system in the Q5 line up.
Vehicle: 2015 Audi Q5 2. 0t VIN: [xxx] at around 70,000 miles, my vehicle began consuming engine oil abnormally. I received a low-oil warning and had to add 1 quart every 1,000 miles. I first approached an authorized Audi dealer at 75,000 miles, who inspected the vehicle and stated this was “normal for older vehicles” and found no issues. However, the problem worsened rapidly. By 79,000 miles, I visited a second Audi dealer who acknowledged that this was a common problem in this engine type. They quoted me $16,000–$20,000 for a full engine replacement, stating they could not replace pistons alone. At 80,000 miles, my car now consumes 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. The oil warning light comes on frequently. I am forced to carry oil and top off multiple times per week. This is not normal wear for a luxury vehicle with regular maintenance. This condition creates multiple safety risks: •sudden engine seizure or power loss if oil runs too low, especially while driving at highway speeds. •loss of steering/brake assist due to oil pressure failure. •increased fire risk from leaks or overheating. •frequent roadside stops to add oil, risking exposure to traffic. •distraction while driving due to monitoring oil levels. •environmental hazard from oil spills. The engine remains available for inspection. The vehicle has only been inspected by Audi dealerships. Audi should be held accountable for a defect that compromises safety and reliability at relatively low mileage. I urge NHTSA to investigate and take appropriate action. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
In 2017 while driving in 10 degree weather, the overheat warning light and message to turn off engine came in. The car was not actually overheating and we took it straight to the dealership. They were not able to get it to replicate and advised it was possibly a faulty sensor. Fast forward to fall of 2023, the same warning light came on as soon as the car was turned on. Still no actual overheating per the dial in the car. We did check the coolant level and it was low. Dealership looked at and stated the didn't see any leaks and suggested replacing thermostat. Took to another shop and they found a small leak in the water pump so we had it replaced. Car has less than 60k miles on it. Engine failure, fire are all concerns. Especially when commuting at high speeds on a highway. We're either dealing with a faulty water pump or thermostat.
My Q5 requires an additional quart of oil approximately every 500-1000 miles since purchased in early August . Services included two oil changes, replacement of pan gasket and fill tube o-ring. No drips on the ground, just a minimum level reading every 30 days. That definitely should not be happening without some plausible explanation other than "that's what german cars do. I have a BMW and the same issue. " it was not disclosed that I would have to purchase a monthly supply oil motor oil in addition to the cost of the vehicle.

Audi engine start system malfunction continues to go off on the dash and the majority of the exterior lighting has gone into a malfunction as well. The left rear fuse panel in the luggage compartment has moisture in it and on the wires.
I was riding the car and all of a sudden tv my car stopped right in the middle of the street, totally shut down and non of the keys were working not even the hazard lights to alert other cars to turn around me. So I had to get out of my car right in the middle of the street to let the other cars to move away . I finally got back in the car, tried on and off switch couple of times and finally engine started . Audi took the car and they are saying it’s alternator failed and they have replaced it.
Engine shuts off while driving at highway speeds. No engine warning light comes on, just complete lack of power. Need to pull off, put car in park and restart. Happens more often in colder weather, but is very sporadic. Audi said it was fuel issue. It is not. Jundreds of gas fill-ups with all different brands. This has been happening for years, and began within months of purchasing the car. It is getting more and more frequent. There is no fault code associated with it when I've brought it in for diagnostics. Very disconcerting when driving 75mph in left lane, and you experience a complete loss of power. Last incident was August 12, 2023.
On 8/8/2023 my vehicle was outside in the driveway of our home in truro, MA. A large storm moved through the area with torrential rain and lightning. Once the rain let up I looked out the window to find all 4 windows down 4-6 inches, the rear hatch was opened with the rear wiper and high middle brake light on. When I ran outside to close the windows etc. I could not start the car the mmi did not come on and I could only get 3 of the windows up. I had to manually close the rear hatch. I put a tarp over the drivers side window that wouldn't close and had aaa come out. They assessed that it was not a battery issue bit an electrical module issue. I filed a claim with my insurance and after waiting for the adjuster to look at the car I had aaa tow it to an Audi dealership. They ran a diagnostic test on it and found water had caused the comfort module and associated wiring to fail. The estimate to fix the issues was is nearly $12,000. Because of the cost my insurance company is sending another adjuster out to inspect the issues at the dealership. There were no prior issues or symptoms before this issue took place.

The contact owns a 2016 Audi Q5. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, there was an abnormal burning odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact checked the oil and coolant levels and became aware that the coolant level was very low. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that after filling the coolant reservoir the odor went away. The contact stated that the odor returned, and the coolant level was very low. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 17v002000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
My 2018 Audi Q5 had the 5-year/50,000 mile factory recommended service in August 2022, the vehicle only hadwith 42,000 miles and everything was perfect as it was the last year of the five year service extended contract. In July 2023 I was told the engine mounts needed to be replaced. Both mounts and vehicle has 53,000 miles. Basically mounts cannot the engine and transmission in place . This recommendation was done as part of the 60,000 mile recommended factory service based on my google research. Many Audis have disorder failure which is which can be catastrophic because there are no warning lights for the engine mount failure when the car auto stops and starts it shakes. This has hung always been a standard, but annoying feature of the car, which cannot be turned off for emission purposes. Clearly the engine mounts cannot handle the auto start/stop of the vehicle. That’s why it’s failing for so many vehicles. It is frustrating given that the car is a $54,000 car and at 53,000 miles I run the risk of the engine falling on the ground , this information is widely available on the internet easily accessible on google. I ask that you please look into it. Thank you for your time always . What is bizarre is that now when I accelerate hard, I can feel a little vibration of the engine before I didn’t but that’s something I cannot explain at the moment. The dealer that sold me the car brand new is the only dealership that has ever touched my car, and my car was always serviced as recommended once a year.
My wife and I were in the 2023 Audi Q5 with 1000 miles. I had complained to the dealer and manufacturer that this car was unsafe to drive. On June 9, 2023 I was driving slowly in my community. I tried to stop at a stop sign. No brakes then at the same time the car had unintended sudden acceleration. We had no control, no brakes and hit a fence and shrubbery and cement fence. All airbags deployed.
The check engine light came on so I stopped at the nearest auto repair shop and the codes came back that the thermostat was sticking partially closed and the water pump was leaking.
When I reached approximately 101,000 miles my low oil indicator yellow light came on. The car does not have a dipstick so I could not manually check this. I thought the oil level sensor was broken, as I have not had this light come on in the first 101,000 miles. I regularly change the oil according to manufacturer guidelines of every 10k miles. Eventually the red low oil level light came on and the car told me to add oil. I went and had the oil changed and they told me there was only 2. 9 quarts of oil remaining in the car when they changed it. Obviously the car is buring oil as I have no indicated leaks on my garage floor or driveway. I note this is an issue on many online forums. If the negine were to sieze at speed while driving it will be very dangerous.
