Quote: report receipt date: Nov 12, 2013 NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 component(s): air bags potential number of units affected: 76,565 manufacturer: BMW of north America, llc the problem: the front passenger seat occupant detection mat that determines if and how the passenger frontal air bag should deploy in a crash may fatigue and develop cracks which could lead to a system failure. Should the system fail, in the event of a crash, the front passenger air bag would be deactivated, increasing the risk of personal injury. Repair: BMW will notify owners with an interim notification letter in January 2014 since parts are not currently available. When parts are available, anticipated to be in March 2014, BMW will send a second letter and dealers will repair the occupant detection mat to eliminate the possibility that it may crack, free of charge. Additionally, owners of model year 2006-2007 3 series with standard seats, 5 series with comfort seats, and z4 models, will receive an extended warranty on their front passenger seat occupant detection mat. This is reproducible with the front passenger seat. The seatbelt light and airbag light turn on when a passenger is present. This car is unsafe for anyone to be seated in the front passenger seat even when buckled as the red seatbelt and red airbag turn on and stay on until the passenger unbuckles and exits this vehicle.
Passenger restraint malfunction warning light has been on. It is a common problem with many BMW's and they did not issue a recall prior to 2009 models. The repair is quite costly and it seems to be a computer error that is not actually an issue at all.
The contact owns a 2007 BMW 328xi. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v513000 (air bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Front seat passenger side seatbelt warning indicator activates when no person is in passenger seat. Airbag warning light illuminates even when there is a passenger in the seat. I see numerous complaints about the same/similar issues in your data base, but seemingly no resolution or recall. My car is a convertible. I note from other complaints on your website that a related recall was initiated for my year make model but it did not apply to convertible version of this model. That is irresponsible and unacceptable.
The contact owns a 2007 BMW 328i. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the air bag sensor warning light illuminated, whether a passenger was seated in the seat or not. The contact stated that the air bag warning light remained illuminated even without a passenger seated in the seat. The contact was unable to reach the local dealer. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 188,000.
I have been trying since 2016 to get vista BMW in broward county florida to replace or remove the defectice and dangerous takata airbags in my car, and I have the paperwork to prove that this was never done. Reeves BMW in tampa, florida, said that vista BMW falsely reported that the airbags were replaced with non-takata bags and refused to install the correct ones with desiccant. I have proof that shows that the airbags were never available at that time and the vista BMW service manager himself told me that all he could do was replace it with another defective stock airbag until the replacements were available. After waiting two years without hearing from vista or any BMW representative, and eventually moving to tampa in 2018, I went to the BMW dealer here, reeves, who stated that vista had falsely reported that the "interim" airbag had been replaced and they refused to install the replacements. So now I keep the car unused in the garage, too scared to drive this bomb that can blow up at any time, and I cannot afford to junk a car that took me five years to pay off. Why has NHTSA not prosecuted BMW and not enforce this? how can I get BMW to replace the airbags with the correct ones with dessicant? please help, at wits end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

As I am the only driver and owner of the car, I know that no one else could have taken the car from my garage in the dead of night and replaced any airbag and returned the car without my knowledge. So now I keep the car unused in the garage, too scared to drive this bomb that can blow up at any time, and I cannot afford to junk a car that took me five years to pay off. BMW either owes me a replacement safe airbag or a replacement car that has a safe airbag in it. I will gladly join any legal action to expose these criminals and hope you can do something for me before I die. The documents attached clearly show that the airbag was never replaced with a proper desiccant or drying agent.
Air bag light malfunction passenger side.
BMW of murietta will not honor the recalls.
The contact owns a 2007 BMW 328i. The contact stated that the passenger restraint system message had appeared on the instrument panel indicating an air bag failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v119000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The manufacturer had been notified of the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The car has a short draining battery all the dash lights came on the blower moter smelt like fire when turned on. Scan tool wont connect to obd2 says no communication air bags restraint lights came on . I beleive your recalls were not done and cause a massive failure that would be considered dangerous conditions to operate vehicle under.
Received a recall notice for a blower motor wiring issue (17v-676) and an extension in limited warranty for the supplemental restraint system. BMW north America said they could not see the vehicle in there system and could not initiate repairs until it was. I purchased the vehicle in tennessee on 3/23/16, but saw in the carfax report that it was originally purchased overseas.

The car is my livelyhood so I feel like just buying the parts myself and fixing them other than the airbag.
Fault in passenger-restraint system. Effecting airbag, belt tension or belt-force limiter. Restraint system malfunction. What is that?.
I called the BMW errhard in farmington hills, mi and I was told they don't have the parts yet and it could be a year. I've had electrical problems for a year and hope this can be taken care of ASAP.
Takata recall I recently got a notice for an airbag recall (recall #16v071). There was a notification on the recall that if "the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner to file an online complaint" with this website. I contacted the dealerships closest to me and both said they are backed up until the 2nd quarter of 2018. This is scary because these notices are saying that the airbag erupting could cause serious injury or death. I would like to get these replaced ASAP so I am not risking my safety or the safety of others in my car. Thank you!.
Takata recall on the NHTSA. Gov site my car shows recall incomplete in red. Per the safercar. Gov sit, this means that my parts are available. The dealership said they do not have the parts. Is the information on the site incorrect that these would be ready? I am confused about the information as rpesented on the sites. I am most concerned due to the age of my car. I realize I am in zone b, but it is 10 years old. Thank you.
Takata airbag. I received my airbag recall notice in March 2016. Since then, I called my BMW dealer asking for installation of replacement. They said it wasn't available. I later visited the dealer on August 2, 2017. They, again, said the airbag wasn't available. I called BMW customer relations shortly thereafter. They said I should have the airbag by labor day. I did not receive any notice of my airbag being available by labor day. The NHTSA site says it's available. How do I get BMW to install it if they keep telling me it's unavailable?.

Parts distribution disconnect.
Vehicle has 2 incomplete recalls, no accidents I am reporting that I was never contacted.
Takata recall I have a BMW 2007 328xi which is 10 years old and I live in a high absolute humidity state. Based on the risk factors of the degradation for this airbag my airbag has now degraded well beyond safety levels and yet I have still not yet received my letter telling me that I can take my car in to have this dangerous and life threatening situation resolved and the recall taken care of. This is an unacceptable situation and if BMW is unable to provide an immediate remedy they should buy back the car immediately so that my life and the life of wife who drives my car is no longer in danger every day. I no longer want to put my life or my wife's life in danger because BMW has not been able to resolve this life threatening problem.

Takata recall.
Received original notice for recall. Called two different BMW dealers in georgia area. Both told me they would contact me once the part(s) came in. Followed up and waited over 6-8 months. Received another recall notice. Filed complaint.
Takata recall dealership will not perform recall, gives misleading information, and contradicts information from BMW USA. Advantage BMW (mid-town) 2101 san jacinto st houston, TX I originally contacted the dealership in March 2016 regarding the takata airbag recall and was told that no parts/fix was available and I would be contacted shortly when my car could be scheduled for an appointment. I followed up with them on may 18th after their were multiple deaths in the region reported as a result of this issue. Since then I've contacted advantage on 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, and multiple times in Aug/Sep. Each time I would be "added to the list for the service manager" though each time they can't find my name on the list. I finally contacted BMW USA about the problems I was having and was contacted by them. They told me they could provide interim parts but that this would close out the recall and I would be unable for the final repair. I told them this wasn't acceptable and they told me to request a loaner vehicle from advantage BMW. I did this and it took a week for the service director to get back to me and told me that parts were available to complete the recall. I asked if these were final or interim and they said they would contact BMW USA to find out. After not hearing back from them, I contacted BMW USA to confirm they were interim, which they were. When I told this to advantage BMW they told me to come in for a rental car. I came in, wasting a day of my time, was forced to fill out all of the paperwork and then at the last minute was refused a rental vehicle because they said I was forced to use the interim parts. As a mechanical engineer who worked for years in the auto industry I really don't feel safe driving my family around in a BMW. After the recent deaths I'm very concerned by the lack of action and the run-around I am being given.
Takata recall upon receiving the initial letter informing me of my car having the takata recall earlier this year (2016), I have been waiting for BMW to inform me when the parts are available to fix the issue. It is now September, I have checked online with BMW USA and it stated that the remedy was available. After seeing online that the remedy was available for the open recall on my vehicle I contacted BMW customer relations via email requesting further information on this matter on how to resolve this issue. I did not hear anything back from them. So I contact the hotline and spoke with a lady named jessica on 9-20-16, she stated that the website was giving me wrong information, that in fact the parts to fix my car were not available and that it could take up to December of 2016 being the earliest it could be fixed, or well into 2017. The issue is that this is my only means of transportation, if I get into a small fender bender, I could potentially have my airbag deploy and cause serious harm or death upon me or a passenger. I was told the gulf states (high hummidty areas) would be among the first regions to have these vehicles fixed, I live in mobile, al. The relative humidity in my city typically ranges from 45% (comfortable) to 94% (very humid) over the course of the year, rarely dropping below 23% (dry) and reaching as high as 100% (very humid). On average it could be around 86% humidity by 6 am and 56% humidity by 3 pm. We have a warm humid temperature climate with very hot summers and no dry season. . . Why has my vehicle not been fixed yet with me residing in a largely known humid city? I was told by jessica with BMW that I would be put to the top of the priority list within their database for my vehicle to be fixed and that a case worker would follow up with me. . I have not heard anything yet. This issue must be fixed ASAP before myself or someone gets hurt.

Takata recall I have brought my car into BMW service centers 3 times (BMW dealerships in fort worth, TX and houston, TX) since the takata airbag recall was announced. To date, I was never informed by anyone from those dealers or BMW that my car fell into the affected lot. Through my own research, I have discovered my car is indeed part of the recall. This is not safe or satisfactory. When one takes their car to any certified repair facility, much less an actual BMW dealership service center, the assumption is that he or she will leave with a safe car and full understanding of any pending recalls. This was not the case for me.
