Driver door will not unlock or open. According to dozens of forum posts, it's a known issue. Very dangerous if this fails in an accident and can't get out of the car. Only way to get in and out is through window or passenger door. It is possible for all locks to fail and only way to get out would be from the windows. Even door handle can't open door.
One of the rear ride height sensors controlling the adaptive xenon headlights failed (bolt broke). This caused the headlights to aim down at the limit of their adjustment, effectively giving the driver only 20 or so feet of visibility at night. We had to use the high beams to get any reasonably visibility to drive safely.

BMW recall dated 11/12/2013, NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000. Recall up to 76,565 units for failures of front seat occupant protection mat. Air bag will not deploy in the event of an accident. Contacted BMW and told my VIN does not fall into BMW range but I've been experiencing the exact failure since purchasing the vehicle used in 10/2013. BMW has likely not identified the true VIN range of vehicles impacted by defective occupancy mats and refuses to pay for replacement.
The BMW 328 2013 has a tech design flaw which will lead to a possible fatal accident. The screen which shows telephone numbers or radio or navigation directions is placed in such a position that the driver cannot read the script on the secondary and tertiary words when the vehicle is travelling in sunlight we live in florida and where the sun is bright and if you are driving and want to make a phone call without holding a cell phone you can have an accident since you cannot see the words or icons that are flashed on the screen. The screen washes out the same as an iphone when it is in the sunlight the placement of the screen in the 2013 BMW 328 is a hazard and if not changed to a shaded position on the dash will lead to many unforseen accidents there should be a recall on this model to have this corrected.

I was driving at highway speeds when I hit a small bump in the road which caused my scalding hot coffee to get ejected from the hop holder onto my leg. The cup holders in this car are dangerous because they are spring loaded from underneath. When you have a drink in the holder it (cup holder) exerts upward force on the cup. When the cup is light enough or you hit a bump hard enough it will eject whatever beverage in the holder onto the driver and / or passenger. I had a can of soda come out one and land on the drivers side floor. It wedged under the back of the brake pedal and I almost had an accident. This problem is widespread as I have spoken with other 3 series owners and they have had the same problem.
Soon after purchasing my 2009 BMW 328i (with a manual transmission), I had the dealer install BMW customized 328i rubber floor mats. The mats have a fitted slot for the gas pedal and anchors to prevent them from moving after installation. Unfortunately, the length of the mat on the driver's side is too short for a vehicle with manual transmission. When you depress and release the clutch, it catches the top edge of the mat and lifts it up, covering the clutch and the brake pedal. When you put your foot back down, you end up stepping on the mat, partially depressing the brake and/or clutch while the car is in gear and moving. I've taken the vehicle back to the dealer several times to have them adjust the installation but they can only move it a few inches because of the gas pedal slot, so the problem wasn't fixed. I don't drive this vehicle very often but last month (9/2012) I finally got fed up and contacted BMW to let them know their rubber mat design has a safety flaw and that I was filing a complaint with NHTSA. They recorded my complaint but said there would be no additional follow-up. So, for safety reasons, I have now removed the driver's mat from the vehicle.
