Equipment Problems of BMW 328 - part 1

I have been waiting since October 2024 to get a remedy available to fix the recall on this vehicle. Dealership won’t even look at the car since the remedy is unavailable but this is a dangerous issue to have and know about without a fix anywhere in the foreseeable future.

Drive train malfunction. On June 25th 2025, for the second time I got this drive train malfunction issue on my 328i 2012 model. The car just stopped in middle of road ( thank god not on a freeway ; otherwise, this would have resulted in multi car accidents and could have costed people's life including mine ). The car just died and stopped all of a sudden in middle of road and when I tried to start it, it only crank's . After waiting for about 10 minutes, it started . I had exactly same issue earlier in July 2024 and that time BMW service found high pressure fuel pump to be defective and they changed that. I was told by my BMW dealer that certain model and year BMW has this issue and it is well know. But I do see BMW issuing to its customers or doing anything. If the car just stops without any warning to pull over etc. While you are driving is very serious is very serious and life- threatening issue . Imagine one is driving at 70 miles an hour on a busy freeway and car abruptly stops ( like my car did , twice in last 11 months, thank god not on freeway though) and there are several cars behind you driving at more or less at same speed; this will result in multi cars collision and multiple accidents and deaths. I request NHTSA to take this serious issue on priority basis and do something ASAP.

It has been over a year since I received the first recall notice for my vehicle, and I am continuing to receive notices from BMW that state there is no remedy available. This recall has the potential to create premature depreciating damage to my financial asset as well as serious safety risks myself and my family. I would like to know what kind of alternative remedy BMW has to offer me, since no repair has been offered in a timely manner.

Dear sir/madam, I am writing to formally file a complaint against burdick BMW, located in syracuse, NY, regarding their failure to address my request for a recall-related repair on my vehicle. Despite multiple attempts to schedule an appointment, I have received no response or follow-up from the dealership. Over the past month, I have contacted burdick BMW a total of four (4) times via phone regarding a recall service for my vehicle. The contact was made on [xxx]. Each time, I spoke with a customer representative who assured me that a supervisor would return my call to schedule an appointment. However, I have never received a call back nor been provided with any opportunity to have my vehicle serviced. This ongoing lack of communication and failure to act on a manufacturer-issued recall raises serious concerns about the dealership's commitment to customer service and safety compliance. As a consumer, I am entitled to have my vehicle serviced in accordance with recall requirements, and burdick BMW’s inaction has not only caused inconvenience but may also pose a safety risk due to the unresolved recall issue. Given that my attempts to resolve this matter directly with the dealership have been unsuccessful, I request that appropriate action be taken to ensure burdick BMW fulfills its obligations. I kindly ask that you investigate this matter and take the necessary steps to hold burdick BMW accountable for their failure to schedule or complete recall-related repairs in a timely manner. Additionally, I request assistance in obtaining a prompt appointment to address my vehicle’s recall issue. Please advise me on the next steps I should take to resolve this matter. We where sitting in our car me my wife and our 6 month old son it was running and out of no where lots of smoke started coming out from under the hood I didn't know what it was so I turned the car off got my wife and son out and away from the car then I opened the hood and soon as I did all I could see was flames I ran and got water and started throwing it on the fire till it was out this was the only car we had now it is ruined we missed our sons doctors appointment and I have not been able to make it to work.

Safety recall no fix. My car smokes and could catch on fire. BMW refuses a loan vehicle until it can be fixed. They advise me to drive it and if catches fire call 911. This is unacceptable.

12/2023 - sewell BMW replaced egr, all h/p fuel lines at injectors due to corrosion, injector harness due to heat damage to the wire jackets, cracked coolant pipe. At 145,976 that's an additional 22,315 miles on the 60,000 mile 2015 replacement engine. Total repair costs $3,939. 45. 08/23/2024 - passed inspection, odometer 149,701. 09/09/2024- only 2 weeks later an estimate of 4,000 miles after replacing injector harness and h/p fuel lines, engine went up in flames, reason unknown. Pictures attached, vehicle was a total loss.

Mfgr campaign #: 24v-608:474 was issued in August 2024 for my car, a 2014 BMW 328i. It is now January, 2025 and no remedy is available. Is there a defined period of time that BMW needs to produce a remedy? how long should I expect to wait for the remedy to be available and for my dealership to make the repair? thanks.

Without warning and no obd2 codes thrown, my car and many others in the e90 (2007-2012) 3-series (n52 engine) will stall, lose power, and/or burn excessive oil when the integral pcv - valve cover starts to clog. Many owners on the BMW boards online have reported similar problems. The e90 3-series Bmws have an integral, internal positive crankcase ventilation system as part of the engine's plastic valvetrain (engine cover or valve cover) cover. Inside the valve cover is a series of cyclones that separate the oil from the valvetrain gasses and route the gasses to the pcv system. Repair is > $4000.

Date reported 08/13/2024 description manufacturer safety recall issued NHTSA #24v-608 recall #24v-608:474 engine coolant pump status remedy not available there is no remedy for this issue that has rendered my vehicle inoperable. While I have to make payment on a vehicle I cannot use and cannot have repaired.

A recall was issued by BMW in August 2024. As of today, April 14, 2025, there is still no remedy issued by BMW to repair this issue. BMW states that the issue with the water pump electrical connector can cause a short circuit and engine fire.

The driver side door lock mechanism failed completely while the driver was in the vehicle, making it impossible to open the driver side door or exit the vehicle normally. Neither the interior door handle, nor the central power lock/unlock control, nor the remote key fob, nor the physical key inserted into the door lock from the outside can unlock the door. The driver was forced to exit the vehicle by moving the driver seat to an extreme aft position, then climbing over the center console into the passenger seat, to exit via the passenger door. If the power seat adjustment had been inoperable, egress would have bee significantly more difficult. If the driver had been involved in a collision, or otherwise needed to exit the vehicle very quickly, they would have been severely hindered from doing so. Inability to operate the driver side door represents a safety hazard to the driver. No warning messages or lamps were present in the vehicle before or after the door lock mechanism failure. The driver side door remains inoperable after completely switching off the vehicle ignition and turning it back on.

Got a recall notice in November 2023 and we are now in April 2024 and no remedy for my car yet. I am not able to drive this car due to this problem and do not want to risk getting stranded or having an accident due to a failure. How long to wait to be "timely"? my car is in a garage gathering dust because of this and me being forced to use another car for my transportation. Hope this issue is fixed soon. . . The vehicle, stopped while driving, overheating, no heat/ ac. It's winter, car stopped at night in an unknown location fory safety. Had it inspected by 2 different auto shops and was confirmed of the issue. Warning lights came on right before the car failed.

My vanos bolts became loose and are missing. This caused my car to no longer turn on. The service engine soon light turned on right before this happened. It has been months since I have heard anything and it does not seem like BMW is doing anything to fix this problem. The remedy should be to replace the vanos bolts free of charge, but nothing has been done.

I got up to leave my house and entered my vehicle and proceeded to start my car. I started it and moved the gear shift so that I can reverse out my driveway. With my foot on the brake I attempted to put the car in reverse and soon as I took the car out of park, my car accelerated forward and the brakes completely locked up. It accelerated so hard and fast that it broke through my gate and knocked down my other gate. I turned the car off when it accelerated because the brakes locked and even with the power off the car accelerated. There is no possible way my foot was on the gas because I was pulled in my driveway facing my house and had that been the case I would’ve went backwards not forward. The very second I took the car out of park it accelerated forward and would not stop. Luckily I thought to turn it off as a last resort and even then it continued to accelerate and knock down my second gate as well. I was very scared and as a safety precaution, I will no longer drive the car. Had I been anywhere but home this could’ve caused serious injury to myself or others and had it been parked a few feet over it would’ve accelerated into my living room where my son was sitting.

My vehicles check engine light came on, and the car started to misfire and idle hard when driving. Jack furrier tire and auto ran the code, and it came back with peoblems with the cam shaft. I brought it to BMW, and vanos bolt (recall) code was confirmed, but they told me it was a problem with internal piece missing from the oil filter. I asked if the car was safe to drive, and they confirmed and also told me the car is having other mechanical issues I should be aware of. The service agent described possible future problems with transmission and told me that there was no remedy available for recall yet, so I need to wait. I paid to have oil filter replaced. A week later, I was driving myself to work and my daughter to daycare when the car began to stall out and misfire in traffic. After bringing it back to the dealership, they replaced 1 spark plug free of charge and advised me that the car was coming back with other codes. I addressed the safety risk and the continued mechanical breakdown of the car systems if I continued driving it, and I was encouraged to trade the vehicle somewhere. I will attach an email I sent detailing further frustration I have experienced with BMW. After speaking with customer relations, I received the same reply, which is yes, there is a safety risk it is minimal and unfortuanly, there is no remedy available yet. The following was my reply when asked to complete customer survey: I am getting no help with a car that has a recall on it and being told the exact thing at every level I have presented my legtimate concerns. With no viable or reasonable options. I basically have to continue driving my car and risk car further breaking down and put my family's safety at risk with hope that "it's low probabilty". Somehow, these are my only options on a vehicle with a recall.

2011 BMW 328i vano bolts fail. My car stall in the middle of me driving . Vechile doesn't want to start. Starter just making a whine noise. Before stalling I can here rattle in the engine like loose bolts jumping around.

Front driver side door will not open from the outside and the inside. Mechanical issue- electrical opening will not make the door open on the driver side.

The engine component caught fire spontaneously when car was pulled into a parking lot. There was no warning sign. It did not show any service required notice like it usually does on the dashboard for example if oil is low. There were no recalls pending on this vehicle. The fire was big enough that we had to call fire department to put out. It would have affected other vehicles if not put out. The vehicle was declared total loss after an inspection by insurance company. The car manufacturer (BMW) was contacted but not responded yet. It is available for detailed inquiry and inspection in a secure place.

Drive train malfunction. Throws itself in to neutral while driving. Lost the power to accelerate so had to coast to the shoulder. . Turned the car off and restarted it. Took to automotive shop via extended warranty suggested and I paid to have the pressure fuel piece. This same piece, apparently has a recall on the 2015 but not my year. Very upset. While out of town the same thing happened again. With a passenger. Very scary my car lost power and almost caused an accident.

I believe it was an electrical problem, my car caught fire in the trunk on the passenger side above the battery and behind the trunk lining. My safety was out at risk because I started the car a next thing you know I started smelling smoke, I looked back and my car was on fire from the trunk. I popped the trunk open and it was nothing but smoke an fire. Lucky there was a fire extinguisher around, so I was able to detain the fire for the most part. But there has already been excessive damage inside the trunk. I just found out there was a recall for this car in March of 2022, but we had got this car in August of 2022. An we have never received anything in the mail stating it had a recall. There was no warning lamps or anything.

The battery died and had to jump start to take it for a replacement. Once the car started, there was warning related to the lighting system malfunction. I couldnt open the windows and the lights were not functional. Even after the battery was replaced, the functions were not restored. Dealer is recommending replacement of frm module costing $1250. I understand there was a recall/repair offered for 10 years which I just missed by a year. Looks like it is a well known issue and caused by a simple battery issue causing huge safety issues. I had to drive the car to the dealer without any lights/indicator with tremendous risks. It is an irony that they will fix this issue for only 10 years when there is a clear manufacturing defect and safety issue. Would like to get any help on this issue.

Engine and transmission mounts are collapsed. The car started making a rattling sound that seemed to start from the center of car traveling towards the steering wheel. There was never an alert or a system warning lamp advising of the issue. BMW dealer inspected the car and determined that the engine and transmission mounts were collapsed. Still no warning or alert came on. The potential risk of an entire engine and transmission to fall out without any warning can pose a huge danger and possible fatality.

Need to recall as it is common knowledge among the BMW technicians that these vehicles are plagued with hazard of parking / emergency break line clip breaking and for the line contacting the rotating drive shaft. The holding clip mfg part # 34406854898 breaks regularly ! the plastic parking brake retaining clip (BMW part # 34 40 6 854 898) deforms due to age/heat. The cable guide does not hold the cable in place anymore and hazardously starts to rub against the rotating driveshaft, causing the emergency parking lines which makes a noise that and sounds like coming from the center console. This is endangering the occupants, and also it is very costly replacement with the same plastic part again. Something from the passenger front wheel side must have messed up since after I went over a small bump in the road I lost control of my vehicle that resulted in my crashing into a bobbed wire fence and a pole that was holding up the fence. My car was completely totaled and no airbags deployed from anywhere in the car. The steering wheel hit me so hard in the abdomen that it caused my t11 and t12 vertebrae in my spine to break from the doctors reports it was stated that the airbags have failed witch resulted in a direct impact to my abdomen by the steering wheel and instantly I knew I broke my lower back. My 4yr old son who was restrained in his car seat was passenger in the backseat during the accident but didn’t sustain injuries besides some whiplash and having nightmares. The car was towed by chp to a local tow yard since I was taken to the hospital by first responders after I was discharged I regained possession of my vehicle that sits in my driveway considered to be un toweable by the tow company storeing my car and needed to pay extra to have them tow it to my house. Please investigate any defects of my vehicle since my son and I could have lost our lives due to the airbag malfunction in the entire vehicle.

My vehicle engine cooling fan caught fire one evening while following behind someone to make sure they made it to a parking lot safely due to their own vehicle having problems requiring them to stay under around 20mph. Once we made it to a parking lot, I exited my vehicle to check on the other person, and realized there was smoke starting to come out from under my hood. My husband waited for me to pull the hood release and then proceeded to lift the hood, only to discover my car was on fire, and it was coming directly from the cooling fan. After almost a minute we were able to put the fire out, and discovered the whole electrical area for the fan was melted and destroyed. There was never any type of warning light or any information at all that would have told me a problem was imminent. Im thankful it wasn;t myself alone or with my kids just driving down the highway because it would have taken over the whole vehicle before I would have known it was having any issues at all. The part is still on the vehicle, which has become inoperable and now any attempts to check the vehicle out have realized that another issues with BMW's is also causing problems with my vehicle. It appears an actual recall was never issued for my actual VIN, rather a collection of years and makes. Any further information or remedy that might get me the ability to actually use my vehicle again would be greatly appreciated. I can also include photos and witness statements if needed,. Was driving down highway going 70mph, I heard a loud pop above me and realized the front sunroof section shattered. Luckily it was not open and shade protected from glass. Glass has gone everywhere on the highway and scratched up the roof and my windshield also cracked.
