I started to hear a grinding noise from the center-underside of my car about 4 months ago. I did some research and found that many BMW customers had experienced the same noise and the diagnosis was a parking brake line that drops on the main driveshaft after breaking free of the plastic support that is supposed to hold it in place. A video with sound of of the problem can been seen/heard here - [xxx] I had my BMW dealer look into the problem and his diagnosis was the same. The plastic clip that holds the parking brake cable in place had broken. And when the cable drops it rubs on the driveshaft making the grinding noise. A copy of the estimate to repair is attached. So far this failure has not caused any problems with either the parking or drivability of the car. The concern that I have is that the clip failure could lead to either a brake failure or a failure of the driveshaft. The problem seems to occur for a number of Bmws and it appears to be a significant safety problem that should be addressed by BMW. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I got up to leave my house and entered my vehicle and proceeded to start my car. I started it and moved the gear shift so that I can reverse out my driveway. With my foot on the brake I attempted to put the car in reverse and soon as I took the car out of park, my car accelerated forward and the brakes completely locked up. It accelerated so hard and fast that it broke through my gate and knocked down my other gate. I turned the car off when it accelerated because the brakes locked and even with the power off the car accelerated. There is no possible way my foot was on the gas because I was pulled in my driveway facing my house and had that been the case I would’ve went backwards not forward. The very second I took the car out of park it accelerated forward and would not stop. Luckily I thought to turn it off as a last resort and even then it continued to accelerate and knock down my second gate as well. I was very scared and as a safety precaution, I will no longer drive the car. Had I been anywhere but home this could’ve caused serious injury to myself or others and had it been parked a few feet over it would’ve accelerated into my living room where my son was sitting.

I drove my car to a parking garage yesterday. As I was pulling into a parking spot slowly, my car started to accelerate. I then pressed the brake pedal harder and the car went faster. The car stopped by hitting the wall in front. All airbags came out. The police came for the investigation. The car was not functioning so the police called the towing company to remove my car. No one was hurt, except some scratches and bruises on the face, chest and legs. No damage to the wall. But there is enough damage to my car so that the insurance company is deciding whether it has been totaled. I found online posts that people reported similar situations with the same model car (bmw328i). It could be related to accelerator module defects based on the online posts.

Brake line bracket failed. It appears that the bracket is made out of plastic and is a common failure for Bmws. The failure causes the line to rattle against the lower body and eventually break. The bracket is in a place very difficult to access. BMW wants to charge 1000$ while the part cost in under 10$.
After a drive from denver to breckenridge on snowy roads the car was parked in an unplowed parking space. When the car was moved 1 hr later the car had no abs--flashing on dash, no traction control--flashing on dash and steering was ineffective. Car was only drivable by backing into a space. 20 hrs later the car was to be moved again. . . Again, everything flashed on dash. . . No abs, no traction control, drive train failure and car just slid. Steering was totally ineffective. Car was pushed by people on both sides until dry pavement was reached. Car was restarted and I resumed driving on dry pavement back to denver. Had car "read" by my mechanic and then again by a BMW certified mechanic. No codes were available! the speculation was that my wheel sensors froze. If my xdrive can't be driven in snow, what's going on. There were two drivers involved in this and both of us reported a total lack of control of the vehicle.

Virtually all parking brake cable attachment clips fail on this BMW product years 2012 to 2019. Complaints are easy to find online. Upon failure, the parking brake cable drops down onto the drive shaft creating a safety hazard for the brake system as well as the drive shaft mechanism. The piece that fails (breaks) costs less than $20, but replacement costs $1200 due to labor intensive access. I have repeatedly contacted BMW of north America, but they refuse to own this serious issue. Even the people at the BMW dealership here are surprised that there has been no recall. Please advise.
On BMW there is a consistent problem with the oil filter housing gasket leaking oil which runs down and gets on the v-belt causing slipping that affects power steering. It is common problem for the emergency brake plastic clip to brake and cause the emergency brake cable that runs above the drive shaft to scrape the driveshaft, causing the cable to wear out and cause premature failure of the emergency brake.
The rear brakes cable holder is broken. This is a very common issue with this vehicle and appears to be a safety issue as the cables will hang and rub on the driveshaft. My service advisor, from BMW of pembroke pines, FL, ramon trull, also advised/ confirms the same. It's an inexpensive part, however, the cost to replace is exorbitant. If you search the web, you'll find many examples. I feel this should be covered under a recall. Please review and advise. Thank you!.
The clip holding the emergency brake line is made out of plastic and mine broke (which I found out is common with these cars). When this happens, it rubs on the driveshaft which can wear through and sever the emergency brake line. This is a very dangerous situation and easily be avoided if BMW used a metal part vs. The current, plastic flimsy one.
Unknown: vehicle collided with another vehicle on highway and control system and functions stopped. Airbag on driver’s side malfunctioned burning driver with liquid and metal.
Need to recall as it is common knowledge among the BMW technicians that these vehicles are plagued with hazard of parking / emergency break line clip breaking and for the line contacting the rotating drive shaft. The holding clip mfg part # 34406854898 breaks regularly ! the plastic parking brake retaining clip (BMW part # 34 40 6 854 898) deforms due to age/heat. The cable guide does not hold the cable in place anymore and hazardously starts to rub against the rotating driveshaft, causing the emergency parking lines which makes a noise that and sounds like coming from the center console. This is endangering the occupants, and also it is very costly replacement with the same plastic part again. This is such a prevalent issue that there are alternative clips being sold to replace for this manufactures omission of quality: https://agatools. Com/products/brake-line-bracket?_pos=1&_sid=3b0ae1e8f&_ss=r also there are videos on this https://youtu. Be/3n8qvis7vmm.
My son's 2015, BMW 328i was taken to BMW in canton, ohio due to "fluttering" in gas pedal and "possible transmission slipping and variations in transmission while driving. The check engine light was on and was diagnosed at dealership that the mass flow sensor was malfunctioning. The wires to the mass flow sensor were corroded and needed fixed before sensor could be assessed. The wires were fixed and the check engine light went out so the car was considered by the BMW dealer service department to be fixed and I paid $545 for $42 in parts and $503 in labor. The service advisor named mark, assured me that it had been test driven by service technician and that the car was in proper working condition. I picked the car up, for my son, at 10 am and drove south to west virginia to deliver the car to my son. At 12:15, I pulled off the freeway and stopped at a light that was at a busy intersection, with a car in front of me. I came to a complete stop with my foot on the brake and my car accelerated at a high speed with my foot completely on the brake almost to the floor. I rammed into the car in front of me and the car flew forward 500 feet. My BMW stopped after it hit the car in front of me. I sat in the car in shock with my foot still on the brake as the driver in front of me came to my window and asked me " what the hell are you doing"? she could clearly see that my foot was still on the brake. There were minor scratches on her bumper and, her and her son had sore necks. The front of my car had a broken grill, and other broken pieces. Broken pieces were lying on thre road. I called aaa and had it towed to BMW in st. Albans, west virginia. A call was made to canton, BMW and corporate BMW to make a report on BMW rapidly accelerating with brakes completely on. Corporate personelle are to call me to get a report from me and send a special team to investigate the "rapid acceleration" while the brakes were on. Now awaiting for the 2015 BMW 328i to be looked at.
Driver was driving on a clear road on a straight level road went to go make a turn as he tried to break the car would not break, causing him to skid and slam into a culvert and hit a tree resulting in a concussion.

I stated on another form about my other safety issue. My son was in an accident in 2013 328i xdrive this website states this vehicle does not have an open recall or any recalls on it. I say bull crap not only did my son lose break, accessibility and crash into a tree doing 54 miles an hour. He also had the airbags deploy and burned him. Air bag dust literally ate right through his pants. I still have the severely burned up his hands we purchased this vehicle for son last year, because Bmws are known to be safe. My 16-year-old son was almost killed in his car because of Bmws negligence.
I was making a right hand turn my car started to lose breaking a ability and my car went in to a ditch and the air bags deployed the dust from the air bags practically disolved a hole in my jeans.
I was preparing to yurn road had a lip when I attempted to turn breaks locked up would not engage resulting in my accident.
I drove the car downhill very slowly. (good weather, no rain or anything) the traffic light turned red and I tried to brake. However, the brake felt rock hard and the car was not slowing down. In the end I read-ended the car in front of me. No one was injured because I drove very slowly. But the car will probably be totaled.
Reporting very dangerous sudden unintended acceleration of 2015 BMW 328i: when about to back out of a parking space in a parking garage, I pressed the brakes and turned on the ignition switch. After looking around to ensure no cars or people were near the car, I put the gear shift in reverse, turned my whole head entirely over my right shoulder to look through the back windshield and, seeing nothing behind me, began to slowly lift my foot from the brake to reverse out of the parking space. I turned the steering wheel towards the left and the back of the car went to the left. The bumper gently tapped a white column that had been out of sight all the way further over my right shoulder. I gently pressed on the brake, and when I switched the gear shift into drive, the car suddenly and explosively accelerated forward extremely fast and sped out of control. I pressed the brakes to stop the car, which did nothing, and the car slammed into cement wall so hard that it sounded like an explosion and the air bags deployed. I hit my mouth/face/head on the air bag and got whiplash from the sudden stop. When I got out of the car, a couple who’d heard the explosion drove by and asked if I was ok. After a few moments I reached into the car to turn off ignition switch. This event resulted in very serious damage to the car, which was totaled, and I received medical injuries. This incident was reported to my automobile insurance company and to north America BMW, who has escalated the report to higher levels due to the seriousness of the incident, and will be doing investigations this week. The accelerator pedal or gear box dangerously and seriously malfunctioned, and the car is available for inspection upon request. My safety was seriously at risk as I have headaches and whiplash symptoms. If there were no wall there, or if there had been people or cars anywhere in front of the car, they would have been killed and smashed because the car suddenly accelerated so quickly.
I went to park my mom's car. Tapped the brakes, moved up a little, tapped the brakes again-the brakes gave out and the car lunged forward at a high speed. The only reason I stopped was because a metal fence stopped me. Earlier in the day the car switched modes by itself from sport to economy. This is the 2nd time this has happened in this car. The first time my mom was parking in her driveway and the brakes gave out and the car lunged into her garage. This car is not safe.
Bought car from third party with rebuilt title 333,000 miles currently and has been recertified by state patrol in 2015. Control cluster says taillight failure, and has issues with not starting. When jump started the car has reduced power with transmission limp mode light. Sometimes light comes on with limp mode, other time no limp mode at all. Have replaced taillights, battery and alternator with no fix. Still having reduced power, have to jump start my car and have a taillight failure. Cars front tires rub when turning even though all parts have clearance. Electrical problems surplus with this car. Everything from the radio, heater, transmission and taillights works intermittently.

While approaching a stop light I noticed that it was much harder to stop than expected. As I let up on the brake a little I started accelerating towards the car in front of me. I reapplied the brakes much hard and was able to stop the vehicle but I could tell that I was fighting the engine. I put the car into park and the engine raced up to about 4. 5k. I then just hit the off button and put my hazards on. After a few seconds, I turned the car back on and the engine behaved as expected. I drove off without incident.
Total brake failure.
The contact owns a 2014 BMW 328i. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel locked up not allowing the contact to turn the steering wheel. The contact stated the chassis stabilization warning light was illuminated on the control panel. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it has yet to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 13v454000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
My driver and passenger airbags deployed because my car all of the sudden lurched forward on it's own and I bumped the car in front of me and when it happened my car started accelerating and revving all on it's own into the car ahead and I was trying to make it stop by pushing the brakes but the brake pedal wouldnt move it was hard and wouldnt move so my car kept accelerating bumping the car in front of me over and over and I was stomping down on the brake pedal to make it stop but it wouldnt. After about 30 seconds of this it just stopped. The airbags were blowing out very hot air that burned and bruised my left arm very badley and myself and my minor passenger were choking from it. My driver side window and windshield were both broken from the explosion of the airbags but the body of my car wasn't damaged. I had noticed that sometimes the display in my car wouldnt show all the car controls but never imagined the car would malfunction like this. Now the repair shop wants the same amount of money that I initially paid for the car to repair it and my insurance is not covering it. Please help because this was not my fault the car malfunctioned.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 BMW 328i. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to roadshow BMW located at (405 n. Germantown pkwy #6207, cordova, TN 38018, (901) 365-2584) for an oil change. The contact was informed of an oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. The vehicle was repaired. The contact was then informed that the vacuum pump also showed evidence of a leak. The contact referenced the failure to 13v454000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 14v627000 (service brakes hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

The vehicle was moving at 30 mph when instepped on the breaks and it kept moving. I took it back to the dealership where I bought it they fix the break. Theo days ago I was prompted with the same problem.
Loss of power assist to braking twice while moving at low speed when approaching a stop. Unable to bring vehicle to full stop the first time as it was a downhill. Second time traveling on a slight upgrade which helped bring the vehicle to a stop. Brought to dealership for diagnosis and repair. They said that brake booster, one-way line, o-ring etc. Needed to be replaced due to oil contamination. While this model year is not specifically listed in recall 10v-446 it sounds like exactly the same problem. Was this recall expanded to the f30 platform? if not should it be?.
To avoid a head on collision, I was forced off road. When I moved out of the way I immediately applied the breaks which then took some time to respond as if it was blocked or as if I didnt press the pedal. By the time I felt some sort of stopping tension I was put into a pole. Airbags did not deploy.
Passenger front seat fasten seatbelt signals when I'm driving and no-one is in the front seat, I have to lock seatbelt to turn it off. It hasn't signal lately. Driver's door locks and won't unlock when I'm parked unless I use the remote but, not all of the time. Breaks squeaks only when I first exit the garage at home.
I was hearing rattle sound from the chassis while driving on city street, took it the dealer and found out the park brake cable holder is broken and was hitting the the shaft. This will lead to grid the park brake cable into the drive shaft and cause accident. That piece should be recall and reinforce.
When applying brakes there is a significant reduction of braking power. It is much worse when the brakes are wet(rain or snow). At times the pedal goes all the to the floor leaving the car unable to stop without the use of the emergency brake. Several times I was afraid I would be unable to stop & have an accident. I am a rn on the front line treating patients in the icu who have contracted the coronavirus (covid-19) and cannot afford to be away from my job. This condition first happened in oct 2019 and continues today.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 BMW 328i. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. Also, the contact heard an abnormal bumping noise and the vehicle hesitated upon starting. When the vehicle was restarted, it resumed normal operation; however, the seat belt warning indicator illuminated. The contact called BMW of henderson (261 auto mall dr, henderson, nv 89014, (702) 570-0278) and BMW of las vegas (6900 w sahara Ave, las vegas, nv 89117, (702) 570-0279) and was informed that the vehicle was not covered under a warranty. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 39,000.

On way home today 7/12/2019 car stalled out. I had very little brakes, steering was hard to turn and car slowed down quick. It started back up but then the passenger side window started going down on its own, and the a/c stopped working, and the drivers side window will not go up, and it keeps getting a warning going on then off then on says something about brake lamp control malfunction. When I got it home I left in driveway for a while when I tried to start it back up I started getting transmission failure warning and something about the engine. Then later the car did start up without the warnings but still has the original problems.
