Failure Date: 06/30/2019

Vehicle cruising at 70mph on the freeway when the car stalled out with no warning. It simply went into neutral and cut the engine, rendering the vehicle hard to control since power steering and braking were not working. The car broke down again without warning on a city surface street with a speed limit of 45mph. Independent mechanic diagnosed that the high pressure fuel pump imploded, sending metal throughout the entire fuel system. Again there was no warning and braking/steering were affected.

42 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 08/02/2018

Takata- recall related to airbags,& seat belt, however when you call the BMW of memphis they state there is no recall or remedy for the airbags & seat belts. . It is very unsafe to drive this car as everytime you in the car the seat belt light & airbag lights came on all the time and stay on. There should be a national recall with a remedy to fix this problem as safety come first. However, I have call several times and have been told there is no remedy for airbags and seatbelt issue. The vehicle can be stationary when this happens and in motion.

43 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

My brake pedal pad came off of my brake when I went to stop behind someone causing me to get in an accident. I was traveling on a city street coming up to traffic that was starting to go at a traffic light that just turned green. I believe the rubber is too soft on the brake pedal pad and was not seated on the brake all the way due to me or a previous owner pulling the bottom left side off of the brake by lifting their foot up from resting it next to the brake. I have a photo of the pad from after the accident showing indentations on the bottom left of the pad from where the bottom left corner was pulled off the brake. When I went to slow down in traffic so the car in front of me could have time to speed up, the pad slipped off and caused me to hit the gas pedal and hit the car in front of me. My computer registers what happened five seconds prior to impact. It says that I was traveling at 21 mph (the speed limit is 35), then hit the gas and accelerated a little before impact, which is in my opinion proof that my foot slipped off the brake. The car in front of me was not stopped, they were accelerating from being stopped in traffic at a light, but traveling slower than me, which is why I was going 21 mph so close behind them, because I had approached the traffic after they already started moving. I contacted BMW and they inspected it and said there's nothing wrong with the pad and therefore will not be compensating me for the accident by taking responsibility and fixing my car. That made me feel as though they are not concerned with my personal safety. The driver and passenger of the vehicle I hit told my insurance they were both injured but I'm not sure if they are pursuing the injury claim.

44 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 BMW 328

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

I was driving with an adult passenger on June 1, 2018 at approximately 3 pm on a public street, traveling straight at approx 40 mph. Conditions were dry and sunny. I pressed the brake at a stop light and the car stopped for a brief second and then lunged forward while the brake was still depressed. I put both feet on the brake and pushed hard to the floor. The car continued forward several feet and slowed to a stop. The engine was revving while I tried to stop and my passenger stated that the rpms increased rapidly. No warning lights came on or engine warning. I was approx 2 miles from the BMW dealership so I slowly drove my car there, putting it in neutral each time I had to stop. I explained the situation, they reviewed the car and found nothing wrong. The car has a history of idling high/fast, which I also relayed to the dealership. There were no obstructions near or under the brake pedal and I did not accidentally step on the gas. I am canceling my lease tomorrow.

45 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 BMW 328

Failure Date: 12/30/2017

I was driving on I-95 at pace with traffic, no speeding and the car in front of me abruptly hit the breaks. I was 3 to 4 car lengths away. I hit the brakes but was not concerned because I had plenty of distance and the car is equipped with abs brakes. As I hit the brakes, it seemed like the car was not slowing down even as I pressed harder and the abs brakes never kicked in. I was in the middle lane and was unable to swerve without causing a major accident. My only option was to hit the car directly in front of me. The car I hit sustained a scraped rear bumper no other damage.

46 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/23/2017

I went in to have a routine oil change and was told to have a brake flush by the dealership. After leaving dealership I started experiencing problems with steering and brakes. They informed me to bring car back in to rectify the issue. As I was driving on the highway the brake system on the vehicle completely failed and the car has now become inoperable. They are refusing to fix it stating that the issue has nothing to do with the oil change and brake flush but would most likely be a persistent valve issues with this car. The car has two recalls in the past week and yet the dealership refuses to do anything about it. This car is unsafe to drive as I almost got into an accident on MD 495 heading toward silver spring. I have tried to work directly with BMW of silver spring and BMW of north America and they are refusing to address the issue.

47 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 BMW 328

Failure Date: 10/14/2017

I was involved in a car accident involving failure for the car to brake properly and reving up after being almost at a complete stop. I was driving on a two lane road at approximately 35 mph before needing to stop. I applied my brakes at a reasonable distance to stop for the traffic ahead for a traffic light. It was not a sudden stop or tailgating situation. I applied my brakes and the car came to a stop or very near stop approximately 18 inches from the rear bumper of the car ahead of me. It suddenly revved up and accelerated and moved forward while my foot was depressed firmly on the brake at all times. The revving continued for seconds and the car lunged forward several times. It hit the car the first time and continued revving and moved forward hitting the car in front several times. The car in front was at a complete stop all ready when I hit it. My car would not stop despite my continuing to hold the brake down firmly. . It continued to hit the car in front of me 3 or 4 times before finally stopping. This resulted in three subsequent cars in front of me all being pushed into each other. I advised my insurance carrier and police of the situation. The car was towed to the BMW dealer near me today, October 16th and I told them of the situation. I have been driving 40 years and never experienced anything like this and am very very certain the brake was depressed and the car and it was not driver error. I do not feel safe driving this car and am presently awaiting to hear back from the car dealer to hear of their findings. In speaking with the mechanic (not the service advisor who was fine) and telling him the specifics as stated here, I sensed skepticism that this actually occurred.

48 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 BMW 328

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

This car was purchased new with the optional "active cruise control" (acc). Under certain conditions the car accelerates unexpectedly. When the brakes are applied by the driver, the acc engagement should always be terminated. In certain situations the acc remains engaged despite the driver's use of the brakes. When the acc is engaged and detects an object ahead, the brakes may be applied automatically by the acc. If, while the brakes are still be applied by the acc and the driver also presses the brake pedal, the acc should be disengaged and remain off. However, if the object previously detected ahead has cleared and the driver releases the brakes, the acc control is restored and the car accelerates. This is a dangerous and confusing response. Drivers instinctively expect any cruise control to disengage immediately and remain disengaged upon brake application. The BMW active cruise control does not perform this way in the situation described. This acc response is a repeatable defect that has caused me to experience a hazardous situation while driving.

49 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 BMW 328

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

I recall the moment my car accident happened : when I arrived the pharmacy parking lot, absolutely I slowed down my car and approaching the parking space. When my car 's front tires touch one side of the pavement ( there are 2 pavements separated apart about 3 feet with soil where are planted with flowers, each pavement is approximately 1/2 foot thick and 1/2 foot high ). While I stepped on my car's break pedal, I felt the car suddenly lost control and it jumped on my side's pavement, and almost at the same time, both air bags burst, made the car ran over to almost a half of the distance between 2 pavements ( about more than 2 feet ) and hitting the rear of another parking car ( on opposite side of my car's parking space ( lot ). Therefore : 2 reasons, the breaking system didn't function well at first, when the car jumped to the pavement, the air bags suddenly burst, made the car madly jump over to another side of parking space ( opposite side ) and made the accident serious ( 1 car's rear almost was crashed, another car's rear on the other side of parking space was touched by this car' s head almost no evidence ). Finally, my car stopped, can't move anymore !.

51 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/28/2017

52 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 05/20/2017

I was driving 75 mph on the interstate which was the speed limit and I vividly remember having my cruise control set at that speed, plus or minus 2 mph. I was driving behind a pickup truck that was 8-10 seconds ahead of me. The pickup truck wasn't equipped with cruise control like my black 328i BMW was so they (a couple) were traveling slower than I was at that time. So as my vehicle approaches 4 seconds away from theirs traveling 75mph (+ or - 2 mph). They braked to change lanes from the lane we were traveling together to the other line since it was a two lane highway. They didn't slam their brakes, they lightly pressed them because a third vehicle they were waiting to pass in order to safely switch lanes and give me the right away. Quickly, I reacted by braking as well and I could feel a hydraulic lock in the brake pedal. Almost like I was trying to push down on cement and my pedal wasn't acting normal while breaking but only half breaking like it was fully applied when I was pressing firmly. I'm convinced that the vacuum pump that supplies brake power assistance may have been mechanically faulty and/or failing for reasons only a mechanic could understand. Now, I've been a driver for many years and this was my first BMW so I didn't know what to think of it. I bought it for a great deal at a pre-owned chevy dealership that said it was ase certified by their mechanics prior to selling it to me. So why did this happen to me? I'm only 27 years old, with three children and I could have been seriously injured or worse. I'm very shaken up by the whole situation because the loss of breaking power provoked an unavoidable collision that makes me look like a reckless driver when just wanted the car to stop. It just appeared that I couldn't brake on time but in actuality, the car should have been recalled for this.

57 Service Brakes problem of the 2007 BMW 328

Failure Date: 01/06/2016

Left work at 4:30pm on 01/06/2016, as we turned out of parking lot my 2007 BMW 328i just died in mid traffic. This occurence happened twice before but stalled multiple time on way back home. On the 6th of Jan, the car began to overheat and burning of battery smell. Car was towed as id codes were checked and all signs have pointed to system failure. Upon further review, 6 open recalls was researched using multiple VIN report sites paid and free including Bmwusa. Com/safety recall. We were then told to contact the BMW consumer and we were told that if there is no warranty due to past milage, recalls were not obligated by BMW consumer. I have already contacted fabbrini law office here in chicago regarding our federal rights in being in a safe car. How many links do we need to post in which stalling and electrical problems have been noted on Bmws own company website. We simply ask that BMW consumer llc listen to this complaint like the many others who are being put in unsafe vehicles and we ask that you apply your three prong rule regarding safety hazards such as these that warrant a refund with deappreciation added, replacement of vehicle or simply repair the recalls that have been noted in the last decade affecting more than millions who are loyal to your product. We intially had a 2005 BMW 325i that had recalls and we were not helped then and traded vehicles for yet another BMW with the hopes of better luck.

58 Service Brakes problem of the 2008 BMW 328

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

Attention: BMW customer relations on, Saturday, 01/02/2016, at approximately 6:30pm my wife and I were driving on the fort hamilton pkwy in brooklyn, NY in my BMW 328i convertible. While driving at 55 miles per hour my car suddenly stop completely in the middle to traffic. In order to exit off the highway safely, I allowed the car to roll to reduce speed then use the hand brake it to stop the car completely at the nearest exit, ext # 5. After exiting I called the towing company. It appeared that this incident was the result a fuel pump failure on my 2008 BMW 328xi which according to the mechanic burnt the control module which caused the engine to shut down completely. Fuel tank failure is a hazardous condition and given the fact that a fuel pump failure results in an immediate loss of engine power, power steering, and power brakes and a potential design flaw. Due to this fuel tank failure my wife and I live were placed in danger. I called BMW customer relations. I informed them of what had happened and I expressed my concern for the safety of my wife and my life and explained the cause of the problem. The representative I spoke to today, 01/07/15, informed me that I should¿ve gotten a warning light on the dash board and stated she could not give me any additional information unless the car was present. I informed her that at the time the car broke down their dealership was closed and I was forced to have it towed to g & j service auto repair shop located at 198 28th street, new york, NY 11232. She stated that there was nothing further she could do or assistance she could give without the car being present. A fuel pump is an integral part of any car. Given the responsibility of literally pumping a vehicle¿s fuel from its tank to the engine, a malfunctioning fuel pump will always lead to a total disaster. Driver's need to be aware of this common problem.

59 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 BMW 328

60 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 BMW 328

Failure Date: 09/28/2015

I was driving my 2014 BMW 328i xdrive, slowing from ~30mph into an intersection for a left hand turn in a residential/shopping area. Upon applying the brakes, the brake pedal moved but the car didn¿t slow. I then smashed the brake pedal to the floor, still the car didn¿t slow. I continued holding the brake pedal and the car shook violently finally started slowing. Once slow enough to make the turn, I coasted through the intersection and stopped on the shoulder. Going through the turn and the intersection, I was behind a dump truck. The issue brought me within inches of slamming into the back of the truck, but luckily the truck turned in time for me not to hit it. Once my car was stopped on the shoulder, I called the BMW dealership that I had just left and was advised to hit the sos button and have my car towed to them. The service advisor (sa) ran diagnostics & took the car on several test drives. He said that nothing pinged on the diagnostics reading and he couldn¿t replicate the problem, so my car would be returned to me. . Read more...

62 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 BMW 328

Failure Date: 04/13/2015

This is a loaner dealer car with an automatic transmission. I was exiting a state highway, turning right onto the exit ramp to slow at a traffic signal, and applied the brake pedal with my right foot. I slowed from 45 mph to about 10 mph, with my right foot on the brake pedal. The engine revved and raced up to about 6500 rpm as I held my right foot on the brake pedal. With much braking force, I did get the car to slow and stop. I then pressed the park button and hit the stop button to kill the engine. After a few moments, I then re-started the car and pulled over to the curb. I did return the loaner car to the dealership. To be absolutely clear, I have been driving for 30+ yrs, and I was not racing, speeding, drunk, nor driving with both feet. Something made the engine race very high, and I was lucky not to plow into the cars in front of me. I hope this can be investigated and resolved so no one gets hurt. Thank you.

63 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 BMW 328

64 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 BMW 328

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

On Friday, February 27th, 2015, my wife and my two daughters, ages 19 and 21 were traveling back up the garden state parkway. They were driving in my wife’s new 2015 BMW 328xi and the car was in "sports mode. " my wife who is a very experienced driver, and never had any problems, was driving. At about 4:30 pm, after exiting the parkway they got to a nearby intersection and planned on turning left to go to the local market. However, when they approached the intersection, my wife was not able to stop her car. She pressed on the breaks but they were not responding properly and the car started jerking back and forth and skidding towards the center of the intersection, where other cars were driving by at high speeds. My wife continued to press as hard as she can on the break but the car did not come to a full stop until it was in the center of the intersection. Luckily, no car was coming by at the exact moment of the incident, but if there had been another car, the break failure, in the context of the defective sport mode, probably would have caused an accident. They also pulled on the parking brake, attempted to switch to park and to turn the engine off in order to stop. Finally, totally traumatized and still having post traumatic stress and fear to get back behind the wheel, instead of turning left, my wife and daughters decided to turn right and very very slowly drive home 2 blocks away, totally traumatized by what had just happened.

65 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 BMW 328

Failure Date: 02/22/2015

When approaching a red light and attempting to apply brakes, the brake pedal became very firm and normal braking function was lost. The only way to bring the car to a stop and avoid an accident was to deploy the emergency brake. This occured on 2/20/15, and BMW service attempted to repair the issue. A second, identical incident occured on 3/10/15.

66 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 BMW 328

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

I believe that unintended acceleration caused my one vehicle accident. I was reversing slowly out of a steep driveway. Once out of the driveway, I put my foot on the brake so that I could switch gear in to drive. When I put my foot on brake, the car accelerated backwards, and I couldn't control it. The brake wouldn't work. The acceleration was so fast, that what stopped me was hitting a horse fence across the street. I was going so fast, that I ended up going airborne, and only damaged the top of the horse fence. My front part of my car then fell forward and broke the tie rod in half. I ended up with whiplash and a concussion, requiring post-concussion syndrome physical therapy for 4 months. I asked BMW for a special investigation into my car to see if it malfunctioned. My car was not allowed to be fixed prior to the investigation and had to be done at a BMW dealer, which it was. Everything was a secret when BMW investigated my car. The BMW dealer service manager wasn't allowed to be told any findings or watch the investigation. BMW sent me a letter afterwards stating that the car didn't malfunction. I have been driving for 33 years without one accident or traffic violation. I had driven that car for 4 years and I know that my foot was on the brake but I was accelerating faster and faster and couldn't stop the car. I have read other reports of unintended acceleration and what is described is exactly what happened to me. I am lucky and thankful that no car or person was behind me, because I could have killed someone. I was only going about 5 miles per hour when I pushed on brake, but unintended acceleration had me going in reverse about 50 miles per hour until I hit horse fence. The brakes didn't work. I have photos of horse fence and broken tie rod but only allowed to upload 5 files.

68 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 BMW 328

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

On August 18, 2014, my 2013 BMW 328i with automatic transmission, suddenly and unintentionally accerated as I slowly pulled into a parking spot at work. It happened as I prepared to stop. ( my foot was on the brake. ) it failed to stop or slow down in response to brake pressure. Pumping the brakes was totally ineffective however it did eventually stop approx. 6ft over the curb. The car moved so quickly and so suddenly the driver pulling in behind me for an instant didnt know where I had gone. That this happened in a parking spot and not on the road at a stop light or a children crossing is a miracle. This automobile was purchased new and has approx 8000 miles.
