The contact owns a 2018 BMW 330i. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, unknown warning lights were suddenly illuminated, indicating that the engine was overheating. The message instructed the driver to shut off the vehicle immediately. The contact pulled over and turned off the vehicle, and it was discovered that the coolant reservoir was empty. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was determined that there was a plastic part from the oil cooler housing that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

The engine overheated and suddenly lost power/ acceleration while driving in rush hour traffic at highway speed. I had to move across 3 lanes of traffic to get on to shoulder of highway safely while car and engine sputtered and slowed to a stop with no power or acceleration. After having vehicle towed I was told by certified technicians that the oil filter housing was made of plastic with coolant lines inside and failed causing rapid coolant loss with no low coolant warning and ultimately loss of engine and power.
The active grille shutter (ags) system on my vehicle suffered an internal mechanical failure (fault codes 138206 and 138224). These shutters are a critical part of the engine cooling system. Failure of the ags to operate correctly leads to immediate engine overheating risks, potential sudden loss of power (limp mode) in high-speed traffic, and thermal damage to engine components, posing a severe safety hazard. The manufacturer, BMW of north America, has officially acknowledged this defect via extended warranty sib 01 03 25. However, both the local dealer (BMW of sterling) and BMW of north America corporate office have formally refused to honor this safety-related warranty repair. Despite clear video and photographic evidence showing zero external impact to the vehicle's front end or grilles, both parties claim 'outside influence' without providing any technical proof or documentation of such impact. By refusing to repair a known cooling system defect, the manufacturer and the dealer are forcing a vehicle with a high risk of overheating back onto public roads. This represents a systemic failure to address a safety-critical component under a federally protected warranty.

I am not sure this the the right form for filing my complaint. I was issued a recall letter in November about my car catching on fire. I have seen videos of other Bmws catching on fire. I am not sure if legally I can take it to a mechanic? what if something happens while it is at the mechanic? legally do I have to take it to the dealership? what if it catches on fire and my neighbors property gets damaged? I have called and email BMW but no response. I need to take my BMW in for other issues but live out in the country, what are we suppose to do? it has been several months. They shouldn’t be allowed to do this. They should replace the vehicle or buy it back. It is dangerous.
The coolant system and oil housing filters. The entire coolant system components fails in this vehicle after 60,000 mile due to the parts not being all aluminum. This fix alone is about 8k from the BMW dealership. This isn’t fair to the customer! this needs to be a recall! the parts needs to be more stronger and never replaced with the same manufacturer part! this fails the entire engine system! the car will have multiple issues just because of this constant failing area of the vehicle!.
I have reached out to both the manufacturer and dealership regarding “recall campaign no. 25v-636: engine starter” who both do not have a remedy for this recall and do not have a reasonable timeframe of when it will be resolved.
The contact owns a 2019 BMW 330i. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v636000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

The contact owns a 2021 BMW 330i. The contact stated while driving 50 mph and coming to a stop at a red traffic light, the contact started smelling smoke. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact turned off the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to restart with a message that the vehicle was unable to be restarted displayed. The contact turned on the hazard lights with the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. The contact then noticed that there was smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle and immediately called 911. The contact stated that while a metro service employee was attempting to assist the contact in towing the vehicle to the side of the road, the worker noticed that fire had started underneath the vehicle and called the fire department. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed that there was fire underneath the front end. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle then burst into flames. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. A fire department report was filed. The front end of the vehicle was significantly burned. A police officer arrived at the scene but had not filed a report because there was no injury sustained. The police officer provided his badge number to the contact. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was being evaluated by the insurance company. The contact stated that the vehicle was a total loss; however, the insurance company had not yet confirmed that the vehicle was a total loss. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
The cooling system is continually failing prematurely. Parts that should be lifetime are needing to be repaired below 100k miles. I have had to repair the following cooling system related items that should be under recall and are not oil filter housing thermostat housing turbo coolant lines water neck the cost of repairs is significant and BMW is denying responsibility for the premature failures.

25v-636 we received a recall notice for the above notice over a month ago. No further communication has been sent from BMW in the status of new part availability and they refuse to assist with accommodations because of the scale of the recall. The letter clearly states that there is a fire risk and to not park near structures. This leaves almost everybody who owns affected cars with no option but to put themselves or someone else at risk of this car catching on fire - where else can you park a car that might catch on fire? its been 4 months since this recall has been issued nationally and no communicated resolution or targetted timing for resolution. Im concerned this recall will potentially start a gigantic car fire and harm someone, their homes, or their neighbors' property. I find it completely unacceptable that there's not even clear resolution timing for this problem which is essentially a ticking time bomb. People with these cars need help beyond what we're able to do as individuals. Thanks, andrew.
The vehicle is subject to an urgent safety recall (NHTSA recall 25v636 – engine starter fire risk when parked). BMW has confirmed that there is no available remedy and no estimated timeline for repair. Due to the open recall and fire risk warning, the vehicle has been restricted from commercial use and removed from a car-sharing platform, resulting in loss of use. BMW has stated that there is no approved interim repair, workaround, or guaranteed loaner or rental assistance. The recall remains open despite the stated risk of fire when the vehicle is parked, creating an ongoing safety concern and consumer impact.
The oil filter housing (ofh), the coolant/water pump, and other plastic lines for the cooling systems are well known to fail with this engine early in their lifetime. My service advisor at BMW said, "these are very common issues for a b46 engine. ". The motor mounts also are extremely prone to failure due to the use of the auto start/stop feature. This has also been noted by my service advisor at BMW. They commented, "these cars come in often before ever hitting 20k miles and needing replacement. I recommend never using the auto start/stop feature ever again. '.
I own a 2020 BMW 330i xdrive with an open safety recall involving a fire risk related to the engine starter. The recall has been open for approximately five months, and BMW has not provided a remedy or repair timeline. I have been informed that parts are unavailable, and no interim fix has been offered. This defect presents a serious fire hazard, and I do not feel safe operating the vehicle. I am currently pregnant, which increases my concern for personal safety and the safety of my unborn child. Despite the unresolved safety recall, I am still required to make monthly payments on the vehicle. BMW has not provided alternative transportation or sufficient guidance on how to safely manage this situation.
Urgent fire risk when parked recall as of September 23, 2025 and received this safeyy recall letter in November 2025 along with 'remedy is unavailable. ' called local BMW dealership today and no remedy and no clue as to when will be available. Urgent fire risk safety recall that is 4 months without a remedy?! is this acceptable? and no communication or updates available is very frustrating for a vehicle that is used daily for family, children, and work purposes. Please advise.
Motor mounts failed on 2021 g20 that only has 52k miles. Vehicle when purchased as cpo had 27k miles and was suppose to be inspected to be certified as cpo. In less than 30k miles from time of purchase it seems these failed early resulting in me driving the vehicle in an unsafe manner until they were scheduled for repair.
My BMW 330i 2021 caught on fire while I was driving. Smoke came from the hood, and I open the hood and seen the fire, and I called the newark NJ fire department. See attached photo of the BMW after the fire.
I own [xxx] BMW vehicle affected by a safety recall for a defective engine starter relay that may corrode, overheat, and cause a fire. The recall notice dated November 2025 states the vehicle is not safe to drive, with no remedy available, rendering it unusable and hazardous. Recall n0. 25v-636. Under kansas lemon law (k. S. A. 50-645 et seq. ), I am entitled to a refund or replacement for this substantial defect impairing use, value, and safety, which BMW cannot repair. I demanded a full buyback at original purchase price, including fees, taxes, and incidental costs, or a comparable replacement. I requested a response within 10 business days. I sent this demand in November 2025 and have heard nothing since. The statute of limitations for lemon law claims in kansas is four years from defect discovery, per ucc provisions for warranty breaches. If unresolved, I want to pursue legal action for breach of warranty, lemon law violations, and negligence, seeking damages, fees, and costs. Please investigate BMW's handling of this recall and failure to respond. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2018 BMW 330i. The contact stated while driving 35-40 mph, the vehicle shut off unintendedly. The contact stated that there was an oil intake leak and a coolant leak. There were several warning lights illuminated after the failure. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined that there was an engine malfunction with the vehicle. The local dealer was contacted and confirmed there was no recall or warranty coverage on the VIN for the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Car keeps overheating. Water pump, water hose and expansion tank have been replaced several times and the car still overheats.
The issue at hand is the oil filter housings on the b 58 and b 48 motors that BMW manufacturers. These oil filter housings are known to break after four years or 60,000 miles. Can range from the engine overheating to oil leaks. The engine overheating can total the motor and the oil leaking can become a fire hazard. I was fortunate enough to be able to replace mine while BMW replaced another common failure point which is the heat management module. However, this is not as big as an issue as the oil filter, housing, because if the oil leaks, it can become again a fire hazard. There are several forum posts online about this issue I would like for ntha please look at this thank you.
My BMW has had multiple repairs (3 incidents - 2 times repaired by BMW and 1 time repaired by a national mechanic garage) to the coolant system since I purchased it in 2018. BMW have verified the leaking coolant as well as the independent garage. Currently, the coolant system has another on going issue where it is still leaking and it's still unable to be fixed. This coolant issue has had catastrophic failures at times and more recently it has thrown a major engine overheating warning that has impacted the safety of my wife, kids and I as well as other individuals on the road as I have had to pull over quickly and turn the car off to allow the engine to cool down. I've had to drive the car at a reduce speed and acceleration which has frustrated many drivers causing them to over take me dangerously. Additionally, I've burnt my hand from opening the coolant expansion tank to add coolant on multiple occasions.
My 330i 2018 BMW has a cracked in the oil housing unit. This is due to BMW putting plastic parts instead of aluminum. After researching this I found thousand of people complaining about the sane thing. The car overheats and sometimes the oil gets mixed into the coolsnt system b causes more damage. This seems to happen on cars with mileage between 60-70 on engines b46, b48 n b58z.
I noticed coolant leaking from under the vehicle. The message to add coolant was displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the engine was inspected, and was notified of stains of coolant coming from the head gasket. The contact was informed that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. I believe this is failure is related to NHTSA campaign number: recall 18v755000, October ,24 2018, my car has only 73000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 BMW 330i. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low coolant warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the vehicle was consuming and excessive amount of coolant. The contact stated that the coolant reservoir was empty after being refilled the previous morning. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18v755000 (engine and engine cooling); the VIN was included, and the vehicle was already repaired under the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
Motor mounts collapse.
Oil filter housing and or oil cooler failed. Leaking internally and externally. May cause fluid to leak on to hot engine and cause potential fire or short circuit wiring.
Oil filter housing failed and coolant gushes all out which makes the car undrivable and risk of engine overheating and failure.
Unknown, it has problems with stalling and starting up could be issues with the internal drive system that I’ve seen other types of similar models of BMW having these recall issues as well. When starting up after fueling up it over exerts the engine trying to start up. You kind of have to rev it to start it up. And driving it after that it has trouble keeping a solid drive.
I had a coolant leak so I took car in for repair. Mechanic says I have a crack in the oil filter housing. Mechanic told me to check with BMW to see if there was a recall because the oil filter housing was made of plastic and he claimed he heard of recalls for this particular problem. I called BMW and they stated there were no recalls currently on my vehicle, but the plastic housing in BMW's are known to be prone to failure and there were recalls, but not for my vehicle. The warning message initially stated low coolant. Now it states low oil level.
The vehicle gave a warning that the engine coolant was low and to power down before it overheated. Upon taking it to the dealer, it was discovered that the oil housing unit was defective. After doing online research, this is a very common issue with this part. I had a previous vehicle with a similar issue that caused the vehicle to shut down in traffic from overheating.
I started my vicheal up and turned the heater on on my 330i 2020i BMW I sat there for about 15 mins and noticed a smoke smell I stepped out my car and realized my car was on fire! no sensors went off saying car had any issues regarding coolant or engine oil or anything so I have zero idea what started my car fire police and fire rescue was there fire investigation is making a report an insurance representative will be inspecting from what I see online BMW was been having issues with 3 series randomly catching fire either by faulty water pump? by a short circuit? the vicheal is completely totaled my safety was at risk if I wouldve started driving and didn't notice it would've been way wrose than what happened unsure where insurance will be taking the vicheal to.
The contact owns a 2006 BMW 33i. The contact stated that while driving at 75 mph, the contact noticed smoke coming into the interior of the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. In addition, the contact noticed fire coming from underneath the hood. The contact exited the vehicle. The contact stated he had to leave the vehicle abandoned for about a month. The contact stated the vehicle had been towed to an impound lot. The vehicle was then towed to the contact’s residence. The contact stated that a certified independent mechanic diagnosed the failure as thermal damage due to the NHTSA recalls. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with an oil leak that caused the fire. The contact was informed of a recall NHTSA campaign number: 17v683000 (engine and engine cooling) and NHTSA campaign number: 19v273000 (engine and engine cooling) however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to have the vehicle towed to the dealer for further investigation. The contact stated that the manufacturer initiated an investigation, and after the investigation was performed, the case was closed. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.
