Failure Date: 08/09/2021

Damaged heat exchanger from debris/rocks getting through grill of car. Now a/c system is blowing warm air, it will blow cool for a very short period and then get very hot and car overheats. BMW dealer says the radiator needs replaced and will cost $1600. Bmws after 2017 are now manufactured with a mesh grill covering/rock guard to prevent these issues. This should be covered under my warranty and is not.

I do not know what component or system failed or malfunctioned, the car is available for inspection upon request. The car started and moved forward with no driver or passenger inside and stopped because it hit my garage door from which it was parked 3 feet from before it moved forward driverless. A car which moves by itself is unsafe because it can hit a person or object. To date, 8/11/2021 the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the car has not been inspected. Today a message from BMW initiated an inspection appointment at the dealer. Problem occurred without warning.

2006 BMW 330ci center console explosion possibly due to defective plastic material near gear shifter. -bubble on the console was produced by heat in the car that resulted in it bursting and the spattering of a black petroleum substance that could have distracted the driver or injured a passenger and/or driver. -the possibility of a reoccurrence does exit due to the ongoing heat wave in minnesota. -the front car seats and console had nothing laying on top of them at the time of occurrence. -car was inspected by local BMW dealer in wayzata, minnesota. -car was also inspected by a collision repair center, referred by BMW dealer. -BMW corporate is aware of the issue and pictures were provided. -BMW corporate has denied assistance due to the age of the car per logan @ BMW corporate on 07/19/2021. -I was told there had not been a recall or any other report of a similar incident from BMW.

We had a 2017 BMW 330i x-drive. It had approximately 67000 miles. The car stalled while driving about 6 times. The first time was in 3/2021. The diagnostics were for a faulty high pressure fuel pump. We replaced the hpfp. It stalled again while driving. The diagnostics were for a faulty low pressure fuel pump. We replaced this. The car then stalled while driving 2 more times. The car stalled again in 10/2021, and we towed it to the dealer, who diagnosed a problem with the electric fuel pump control unit. , which the dealer replaced. We brought the car home for one day, and we had the same problem again. We brought the car back to the BMW dealer, who diagnosed a problem with the vanos system. The BMW peabody dealer directed us to BMW corporate for evaluation of available warranties and rebates given the nature of the problem (vanos) being warranted under the California sulev emissions standards and the fact that they dealer had diagnosed a separate problem the day before. We sent the diagnostics and the sulev warranty info to sean, as everyone at BMW seemed unaware of its existence and who was responsible for following it. He took weeks “looking into it,” and the dealer repaired the vanos during this time without a final answer from corporate. A car stopping while driving is clearly dangerous to the occupants and surrounding vehicles. BMW did not honor the sulev warranty, which clearly covers the vanos and the fuel pumps until 70000 miles. The car was traded to BMW peabody, as we no longer felt safe driving it. We do not know if the replacement of the vanos fixed the problem.

After ~30 min driving on the capital beltway around washington DC, I existed at exit 4 on i270 north). The engine suddenly evolved very fast when I was braking before a traffic light between i270 ramp and falls road. I felt like the car just wanted to keep moving. I ended up hitting a vehicle in the front though the damages on both were very minor. I immediately turned off the engine and place it in park. After a few minutes (the other driver and I exchanged contact info), I restarted the engine and the car seemed to work ok.

Driving on the highway at approximately 60 mph. Sunroof and shade were both closed. I was accelerating slowly. Heard a sudden, very loud pop and glass began to enter through the shade venting area. A large portion of glass (probably 1/3 - 1/2) dislodged from the area, scraped the back of the car and launched onto the highway behind me. This could have easily caused a major accident for myself and others behind me, much like ice would if released from the hood of a moving CA. . I was able to pull over and evaluate the damage. The sunroof appeared to have buckled and blown out, as the shards of glass were pointed outward from the car. Dealership claims it is an insurance claim and not under warranty, despite having purchased the car cpo just over one month ago.

Sunroof exploded-while driving with my sunshade was open 6" and glass closed, at 2 pm on 8/14/19, 70 degree weather, at 65 mph I heard what I thought was a gunshot. Immediately after I was showered with glass into the interior of the vehicle. The glass hit my face and body and luckily I was not blinded and was able to pull over on the highway. This is a straight highway, rt 16 nh, and there were no overpasses or bridges, nor was there a vehicle in front or back of me or trees. The chrome trim under the display screen reflects the sun causing a glare that reflects back into the driver's eyes and also makes the screen above it virtually unreadable on sunny days when driving east, ne or se. Of course, the position of the sun depends on location, time of day and season. In my case the glare reflecting off the chrome trim is most prominent when driving east on a sunny day between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm in the detroit area during summer months.

Turning off the engine. Dangerous issue when one stops at the end of a trip, one is almost always in forward or reverse gear. In this situation, when one pushes the stop/start button at the end of a trip, the engine turns off and the car goes electronically into park. No need to touch the gear lever at all. However, if the engine is turned off and one is in neutral the car does not automatically shift into park. This almost caused an accident. I was in neutral, pushed the engine off button and started to leave the car, which began to roll down a small hill, as it was not in park. This happened to me twice before I realized the reason � for some reason I was in neutral when I turned the engine off I have since learned that the system was designed this way. If one is in forward or reverse gear and turns the engine off, the park is automatically engaged. If on is in neutral and turns the engine off, the car stays in neutral � horrible design. I was told that this was done for towing the car. There should have been consistency across all three gear positions!.

My car had been sitting unused since 6:00pm the previous day. At 6:30am I had entered my car parked at pacific coast highway and anaheim street in long beach,CA. (which is a surface street). I started my car then drove a half of a block then stopped and turned off my car at the store 7/11. I went in made a purchase came out my car. I started my car and then left 7-eleven driving down anaheim about . 2-. 3 miles. I came to the light at anaheim street and park. Both surface streets. I was in the turn lane to turn left onto park. I began smelling something electrical. The time was 6:40 am. I leaned my head out the window and could not smell the electrical smell outside. I discerned that this was coming from inside the car. There was no visible reason for the smell at this time. The light changed I turned left onto park. As I began to turn left white to grey smoke began coming out of the driver side vent which is lower by door and that faces the driver. I got out of my car. I ran over to another vehicle to see if they had a fire extinguisher. He said he would find it. I returned to my car and black smoke began rolling out of the drivers side door. Flames began engulfing the dashboard. Two gentleman came over, one with a fire extinguisher and began spraying into the dashboard. The other gentleman went around to the trunk and disconnected the battery. The last time I had something done to the vehicle was BMW replacing the airbag for a recall. There was no reason for the fire.

Door lock failure. This is very common with this model and it can be one of two things; a fuse or the door actuators. I got it back to fix engine issues and the doors would not unlock, except the drivers side, which I can do with the key lock. Other than that there is no way to get in the car that doesn't involve going in duke style through the window or through the sunroof or something.

Tl-the contact owns 2003 BMW 330 xi. The contact stated that the vehicle just caught on fire on its own. The power steering pump was replaced and the contact recieved a call while at work that the vehicle was on fire in the parking lot of their job. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not towed. The fire department came and extinguished the fire. The fire department told them once a police report is filled then they can tell the contact specifically where the fire occured in the vehicle. The vehicle is damaged. The contact did sustain any injuries. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not informed. The failure mileage was 106,000. Jw.

I was driving on a free way during rush hour when I heard an explosion. I pulled over and discovered the moon roof to the car had shattered and created a vertical protrusion from the window. The temperature that afternoon was 109 and I had driven from an altitude of 7,000 feet to 1,200 feet. There was also a significant drop in temperature from the higher elevation. A highway patrol officer stopped to offer assistance and noted he had worked in dealership and the problem was common. After having the car towed to the dealership where I had purchased it less than a week earlier, the service representative said a rock had hit the car and I should contact my insurance company. The service rep informed me it was it was not a warranty issue without examining the car. I shared what the dps officer said and the service rep just shook his head. The car is a preowned certified vehicle.

Very loud noise (fan noise) coming from the engine compartment when the car was started from a cold start. Car is drive-able but seemed to lose some power. The noise may or may not come back during the next start. A few simple searches on google and from various BMW forums indicated that it's a very common problem for the 2006 BMW 330i e90 sedans and problem seem to be the faulty water pump and faulty thermostat. As there are no warning light nor any tell signs, the car could go from full performance on the freeway to limp mode (forceful slow-down mode) in the matter of a few seconds due to overheating of the water pump, and it could be very dangerous. The hidden error codes may be discovered with a vehicle specific scanning tool but there is no warning light or error light whatsoever to warn the owner unless the car is brought in to the shop and being scanned with the proper scanning tool. But if there is no warning/error light, no one would have thought to bring the car in for scanning.

All passenger doors except driver door cannot be unlocked or opened using any method--the key or any unlock button, or using either inside or outside door handles. This leaves only the front driver door openable. This is a huge safety risk. I can't drive the car this way--I would not be able to get my kids out of the back seat. It happens whether the car is running or not, and moving or not.

Takata recall: air bags were replaced on 11/23/16. The air bag red light indicator remained on and was never reset by the dealer. Dealer was notified several times to resolve the issue but never resolved the issue. To this day the light is unresolved, still on.

Power windows power windows broke on 3 windows. Sometimes the glass has shattered. Sometimes the glass just slides down and becomes non operational. Glass shattering has been scary and dangerous. This has occurred while driving. I live in a state with lots of weather. Thunderstorms. Has occurred with child in car seat during a thunderstorm. At highway speed. I have had them repaired at dealerships and at independent BMW repair shops. Cost has been approx $600. This began as early as 2010 and continues to this day.

On 6-3-2016 my 2006 BMW 330xi started on fire in the parking lot at my place of employment. As I pulled my car into a parking space, I noticed smoke coming from under the hood. I parked the car, shut it off and I opened the hood and saw small flames on the driver's side of the engine compartment. I was able to put the fire out myself. I noticed that some engine components were burned and melted. At the end of the workday I had the car towed to ava restoration in dublin, new hampshire. They completed the necessary repairs. The owner told me that there was a short in the pcv valve heater(also referred to as an angle connector) and it had caused damage to the intake manifold and wiring harness. After the repairs were completed I was able to continue driving my car. I contacted BMW in January 2018 after learning that they recalled 2007 models for the same component failure. I explained my situation to them and told them they should expand the recall to cover 2006 models also. I also told them that I wanted to speak to a representative about getting reimbursement for my repair costs. They told me I had to get my car examined at a local BMW dealer and that someone from their corporate office in new jersey would call me about the matter. The representatives at the dealership were less than helpful and the representative from their corporate office left me a message at 8:45 pm one night and then never called me back after I tried to reach her several times and got only voice mail. I received a letter from BMW recently saying that my car now has a recall on the pcv valve heater, recall 19v-273. I believe that BMW knew about this problem for a long time and did not address it, willingly putting vehicle owners at risk. In addition, the owner of ava restoration told me he repaired a number of Bmws that had fire damage caused by the same malfunction.

Yesterday, 12/12/15, my reverse stopped working while at the gas station. It only revved when I attempted to use the reverse gear to move closer to a pump. I'm retired and need this car for my only source of getting around. And yesterday was my 73rd birthday. Recent cost to fix the car to pass smog tests cost: $2900 and 7 months without the car.

Vehicle door locks do not properly function; I. E will not unlock by key fob. I have experienced this before and upon researching the incident, I determined this is a common fault by the manufacturer. Door will also remain locked while pushing the door unlock button located inside the vehicle. Doors will also remain locked when engaging the door handle from the inside (engaging door handle from the inside is supposed to unlock that door). This type of fault raises major safety concerns.

While accelerating, the entire car shakes violently between 20-30 mph. This does not occur at any other speed and is more pronounce going uphill than down. Brought the car in and was told it was a broken engine mount. This same problem was repaired 2 years ago (June 2013) for the exact same thing. This should not be a reoccuring issue. Repair was not made and car is currently parked as car may cause serious accident in city driving with multiple stops and starts.

When stopped after driving, I attempted to exit the vehicle from the driver side door. The door would not open. The door was unlocked. I crawled out the passenger side. I tried to open the door from the outside. Same result. The driver side door now does not open by any means. Diver side door will not open utilizing key fob, from the inside and from the outside of the vehicle. From reading online posts, it seems to be an issue with others in different combinations. It could be the door handle cable or door actuator. Regardless, this is a dangerous situation, due to the fact that if the driver needed to exit the car immediately, driver would not be able to do so.

I've had upwards of 10 window regulators replaced in my car over the last 12-13 years. They have cheap plastic gears that wear out or break apart because they've become so brittle because of the heat. Each time it's between $100 and $250 to fix depending on who fixes it and it's a pain if the window stops half-way down and can't be moved.

Blower motor and resistor went out. Have done ample research, and this is a well known issue of the above vehicle. Faulty equipment in such high numbers warrants explanation/remedies in my oppinion.

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

During a 2-car collision at approximately 30mph, the fold-down seat latches failed to keep the rear seat backs from opening, and four scuba tanks came into the passenger compartment as a result. Fortunately, the rear seat was unoccupied and the tanks stayed in the rear of the passenger compartment, so no injury resulted from this incursion into the passenger compartment, but this is nonetheless a serious safety flaw. This vehicle was struck from the left side just behind the driver's side front tire, and the contact with the car striking it traveled rearward from that first point of impact, traversing the driver's door and a small part of the rear door (under the b-pillar) before the cars separated. This vehicle was under heavy braking at the time of the collision, and remained under heavy braking (abs fully engaged) until the cars separated and this one came to a stop.

Coolant leaking from reservoir tank. A common issue among Bmws- and is currently effecting my 330xi 2006. The expansion tank is faulty and wondering if the tank and hoses are tested to even withstand the "BMW brand" name coolant.

Stopped in a parking lot and locked the door after getting out of the car. The door locks didn't open when trying to open with the remote. The door fuse and accuator blew up. Opened the door with the key and sat inside the car. The doors locked and then couldn't unlock the doors to get out. I was trapped in the car.
