1 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2008 BMW M3

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

Incident 1 I was making a left turn after the signal and entering into the freeway at 25 mph, and during the turn, there was a slight inclination in the road like a bump and the car landed on the front right wheel and immediately the I lost steering control and had dsc (dynamic stability control) and brake warning and I was this close to getting rammed by a truck from behind and I hurt my hand during this event because I could hardly steer my car and barely pulled on to the curb of the freeway. How can a BMW be so delicate, it cant handle a bump and if it cannot, then why did I loose steering control ? incident 2 2 weeks before this incident had a clutch bearing failure, which resulted in the clutch pedal stuck to the floor and did and retrieve, I could not change the gear and almost ran into another accident because the car came to a halt in the middle of the road. The vehicle is pre-certified by BMW and it's been only 4 months since I purchased the vehicle.

2 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2009 BMW M3

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

This complaint is for a 2009 BMW M3 coupe with the dual-clutch transmission (dct). I am experiencing major shift lag trying to reaccelerate after slowing down. Basically, the 2nd gear will fail to catch / engage when I put my foot on the gas pedal causing the car stall for a second or two. After that, the gear will engage abruptly and I will be pulled violently forward. This has resulted in several near-accident situations: 1. I almost rear-ended someone when the gear engaged abruptly with the car jerking forward at a stop light when it turned green as I was approaching, slowing down to 2nd gear. 2. I was almost t-boned at a non-regulated intersection. I was slowing down when approaching the intersection. The car downshifted to 2nd gear for me and about 1/4 way into the intersection, I saw a vehicle speeding down towards the intersection on my left. I tried to accelerate to get out of the intersection but the transmission failed to engage for a full 2 seconds. I barely missed the vehicle t-boning into my car. There is no apparent events that have led up to the failure. The car behaves like that on the first day I bought it. This failure would happen every time I leave the car in automatic mode, so that the car's computer will downshift for me. I already brought the car to the dealership twice complaining about the issue and the potential safety ramifications, but the dealership's service department claimed that BMW north America has issued a statement claiming that it is normal transmission behavior and there is nothing that they can do to correct it. Obviously, this is a major safety concern for me and I am astonished that BMW will not do anything to rectify its problem.

3 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2006 BMW M3

Failure Date: 11/10/2008

The contact owns a 2006 BMW M3 with an smg transmission. He stated that when the vehicle was in either first or second gear, the vehicle would lunge forward excessively while driving approximately 20 mph. Upon acceleration, the vehicle would lose power and would move forward at a very slow pace. He stated that in order for the vehicle to accelerate, he would have to take his foot off the accelerator pedal and then re-accelerate before it would pick up power; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where he was able to demonstrate the failure. Repairs were made to the clutch disc and the slave cylinder. The output cylinder clutch, the hydraulic control unit and the actuator were also replaced. The failure persisted. The failure and current mileages were 28,000. Updated 2/17/10 the consumer stated the vehicle would buck when accelerating. The clutch and salve cylinder were replaced. Updated 02/22/10.

4 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2008 BMW M3

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

This is a problem with the m-dct automated manual transmission in the e92 BMW M3. It is a recurring issue and is a safety issue as well. When traveling at low speeds, say when coasting and when the transmission is in it's d mode (automatic like mode), when you quickly transition from light braking to medium throttle application the vehicle becomes completely unresponsive to the gas pedal input and offers no acceleration. After a delay of a second or so the car will rev a bit, slip the clutch and accelerate strongly. This occurrence is not universal but is common. Any time you make such a transition and require the vehicle to "obey" and accelerate as per your use of the gas pedal the vehicles marked lack of acceleration can be a safety issue. Such obvious cases include lane changes, intersections with a yield or merging into traffic after a turn. This issue is widespread on internet message boards for owners of this car.
