1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2002 BMW M3

Failure Date: 06/26/2012

Multiple incidents since the day after we purchased the car: ?driving in 4th gear (anywhere from 10 to 40 mins of driving) will suddenly feel as if clutch is engaged so I cannot accelerate, yellow transmission warning light comes on, then I have to coast to a complete stop and shut the engine off. It can take several attempts to restart the car to re-engage back into 1st gear. Noticed if I wait long enough, once the transmission warning light also turns off then I can restart back in first gear. All this while driving in auto mode. ?same issue as above but has happened in the lower gears while accelerating or when cruising at higher gears, for example, 6th gear and manually shifting into 5th, warning light will come on, car will not be in gear, will have to coast to a stop and attempt to restart with 1st gear again. ?same issue as above, but has happened while parked at a red light, indicator shows 1st gear, but when I try to go, the warning light comes on and I?m not in gear, requires a stop/restart of engine again ? sometimes multiple tries. This happens on both even, declined and inclined road surfaces. ?this is extremely dangerous as we have been left dead in the road attempting to restart the car while there's on-coming traffic around us!.

2 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2002 BMW M3

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

Trouble with smg transmission. Car will not stay in gear and bucks hard trying to engage.

3 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2003 BMW M3

Failure Date: 05/31/2011

1. When the temperature where I live reached around 95'f and above my transmission on my vehicle did not function properly. Would shift to neutral automatically resulting in loss of acceleration. I almost got rear ended by another vehicle. 2. Ever since the temperature got hot here in az, my transmission light has been on and the car keeps going into neutral while driving for about 6-15 seconds before re-engaging. It has happened everyday for the past 4 days, twice while making a left turn at an intersection, which is very dangerous. Many times while traveling straight. Consequences is that my safety is in danger the next time my car is not in gear and someone collides into my car. Very scared of my safety and my occupants. 3. Nothing has been done to correct this failure. BMW na knows of this issue, it is due to a faulty hydraulic pump temp sensor that was manufactured incorrectly resulting in the sensor reading an error in the temp and shutting down the smg transmission because it thinks that the hydraulic fluids are overheating(which is not the case). They want BMW M3 smg owners to replace the entire hydraulic sensor hcu unit. Which costs around $3000. 00 to replace in parts and labor. But the problem was the hcu's hydraulic fluid temperature sensor. It's a fairly cheap part to replace, but BMW is not admitting it. . Read more...

4 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2009 BMW M3

Failure Date: 06/27/2009

I was driving on a two-lane street (one-lane each direction) and as I was approaching a stoplight I turned on my left turn signal and started to move into the dedicated left-hand turn lane. As I did this I needed to downshift as I slowed down for the stopped traffic ahead at the light. When I shifted to second gear and pressed the accelerator to move into the turn lane my car would not engage into gear. I was almost rear-ended from the cars behind me but luckily my car's transmission engaged at the last second and I cleared the lane I was in. But because I was pressing the accelerator so hard to try to get the clutch to engage, when it finally did I shot off across the left-hand turn lane into the lane of on-coming traffic. I was able to steer clear before being hit head-on by on-coming traffic but the experience left me very uncomfortable with the transmission in my vehicle.
