5 Power Train problem of the 2006 BMW M3

Failure Date: 11/15/2017

The smg transmission intermittently comes out of gear in any situation and is very dangerous when in heavy traffic and/or on a highway and loose all power. I have had several close call accidents at high speeds. I have read many articles stating the same issue with many owners for this type of transmission with a possible defective heat sensor on the hydraulic pump. BMW refuses to recognize this is a factory defect and forcing owners to pay out of pocket $3000 to $4000 for a pump replacement without a guarantee of fixing the issue. I am stuck with an unsafe car and cannot sell it this way.

6 Power Train problem of the 2003 BMW M3

Failure Date: 09/16/2017

Rear subframe structural damage per class action lawsuit bacca v. BMW of north America, llc, case no. 2:06 cv 06-06753 ddp ajw(c. D. Cal. ). I brought my vehicle for maintenace repairs and inspection at a private repair shop and notified me that there is evidence of rear subframe damage during their inspection. BMW did not notify me of this very typical issue of their BMW 3 series models 1999-2006. This is not a typical issue in automotive manufacturing and should be continued to be address by BMW north America due to the compromise of safety to the owners and the public of these vehicles. I have attached a pdf of the class action lawsuit letter regarding the structural issues of the automobile. This obviously was not addressed by BMW properly and should be continued to be addressed as the issues are still relevant up to now. This still raises a safety issue since these models are still being sold today. I've also attached a current photo of my vehicle that shows the evidence of structural damage under the rear subframe of the vehicle. I would greatly appreciate you help in getting this issue resolved with BMW of north America as so prevent further damage and prevent any major accident from happening. Thank you! clarence trinidad.

7 Power Train problem of the 2013 BMW M3

Failure Date: 05/23/2017

While driving on surface street at approx 35mph I was forced to swerve due to being cut off by an adjacent wreckless vehicle. My 2013 BMW e93, with just over 43,000 miles, and which I had purchased less than 30 days prior, immediately shut down entirely without warning. I was literally left in the middle of a busy street with zero functionality. From electrical to every aspect of mechanical, there was no warning, no function of any kind. My vehicles completely unexpected failure was so severe that it required multiple tow trucks in order to lift the rear, as it had locked up entirely and the motor seized. Upon arriving at center BMW (sherman oaks, CA), they confirmed the obvious complete failure of the entire vehicle. Their master mechanic, shaun, verified the oil was full and clean, and noted they too received no error codes or idicators of any kind upon in depth inspection. This BMW dealership & service center is as bewildered as I am. Because I had literally just purchased the vehicle, with a full warranty, I notified my warranty company red auto whom sent a 3rd party inspector. Without actually inspecting the motor, the warranty CO has denied my claim and refuses to do anything further, claiming it is a "pre-existing condition" based on only removing the oil pan. However, findings of center BMW's master mechanic dispute this entirely. This report, as well as the dealership inspection report at the time of my purchase (less than 30 days prior) both reflect the vehicle as well maintained prior to this catastrophic engine seize. I am appalled to have a basically brand new BMW engine in complete failure for no advisable reason. I am without vehicle and with a $30,000 repair estimate.

8 Power Train problem of the 2010 BMW M3

Failure Date: 03/12/2016

Loud knocking noise and a ticking noise that whined up when accelerated and slowly whined down when the accelerator is released. It appears to be bad rod bearing and it occurred within an hour of an oil change at the dealership. According to online forums this is not an uncommon occurrence.

9 Power Train problem of the 2001 BMW M3

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

Inspection by two mechanics shows cracks in the subframe holding the back wheels. There was a legal case involving this defect that was settled by BMW which was to fix the problem and notify all owners of 3 series BMW's about the defect so it could be fixed. They never informed me of defect and have staled on the repair.

10 Power Train problem of the 2008 BMW M3

Failure Date: 04/24/2015

Engine began suddenly making a very loud knocking sound without any warning, and I drove it straight to sandy sansing BMW service center, where they stated that the vehicle has suffered a catastrophic crank bearing failure. The engine has to be replaced now. . . Car has been meticulously maintained and always serviced at BMW dealers since it was new. . . A car with 56k miles on it should not have such an extreme failure in this nature. . .

11 Power Train problem of the 2011 BMW M3

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

2011 BMW dct M3 engine turns off by it self while driving through intersection. Transmission goes into neutral. "n" pops up on the center cockpit. Steering wheel lock. Brakes work. Had to maintain foot on brakes. Have to push "engine start" button. Car starts up again. Engine stalling and shutting off is a safety hazard, especially if the car is in motion. Could cause death to end users or other people. Can cause property damages as well. This has happen twice within a 8 week period. Most recently on Nov 26,2014 approximately 430pm BMW "auto start stop function" ruled out because the led light above the button is lit, function is disable.

12 Power Train problem of the 2004 BMW M3

Failure Date: 04/16/2014

Faulty smg pump possibly caused by a culmination of other failing parts in smg system. Car is rendered inoperable in potentially hazardous driving situations that would otherwise be circumvented by a system more capable of warning the owner of an impending failure. The remedy the majority of dealerships are using are replacement of the entire smg system, which costs up to $7,000. 00. As hidious as this sounds, there more than likely is a very small factor or part that is causing the entire system to fail. BMW needs to address this immediately.

13 Power Train problem of the 2005 BMW M3

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

Smg transmission light came on and randomly went into neutral while driving down the four lane and almost caused an accident. Light went off and it seemed fine l for a couple weeks and same happened again when I was on the interstate taking my son to the hospital. I called BMW and was informed that there wasnt a recall on the transmission and therefore it isnt deemed an issue on thier end. I told them I wasnted this reported and was told they would have the report in thier system. I was not aware until recently that you have to report it to NHTSA. The forums I have read have also called BMW and reported issues. They may not be aware that they have to report it to NHTSA and not BMW. Very disheartening. I have not been able to enjoy driving my car because of BMW wants almost $6000. 00 to fix the issue and give a 1 yr warranty on something they know to be an issue with these transmissions. They offer no assistance with expense with this well know issue.

14 Power Train problem of the 2004 BMW M3

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

This is the second time this happened to my car the smg (sequential manual gear) light comes on and then my service engine light comes on as well every time in that order , also my car shifts itself into neutral all on its own and I can,t control the acceleration on the highway or anywhere else so the car begins top slow down, many people have addressed this issue to BMW n. A. And nothing and it only happens during hot weather, and BMW ran a diagnostic on my car and they gave me multiple things that can cause it so they expext me to pay for all of them even if they are not all the culprits. This is a very dangerous issue especially on the highway and I have kids so it makes me even more worried that something might happen because of this and BMW's negligence to the issue.

15 Power Train problem of the 2004 BMW M3

Failure Date: 11/08/2012

Automatic transmission smg hydraulic pump failed.

16 Power Train problem of the 2011 BMW M3

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

The problem occurs when you slow down- like for a turn, but do not come to a complete stop. The dct transmission seems to have trouble figuring out what gear to select because when you step on the gas to accelerate, there is a very significant delay in the onset of power- up to 2-3 seconds. By this time, the driver is usually really digging into the throttle. The transmission finally picks a gear, which results in the car suddenly lurching forward, sometimes invoking the anti-skip control. The danger in this behavior occurs when making a turn into on-coming traffic after slowing down to around 10-15 mph. After the turn, the car is positioned in the traffic lane, but you have no power to accelerate into the flow of traffic. The oncoming cars are now closing in on your car at a fast rate, and you're basically stuck. This situation is most pronounced in the "auto" mode of the dct transmission, but also occurs to a lesser degree while in the manual mode when you select second gear in preparation for the turn. It is also very repeatable in both modes. These problems started occurring after a previous recall on this transmission where the engine would stall under hard braking or not shift under hard braking. The recall fixed that problem, but introduced this problem, which occurs almost every day whereas the previous problem only occurred during a specific situation.

17 Power Train problem of the 2008 BMW M3

Failure Date: 04/13/2012

There's an issue with the car's dct/transmission. This has happened several times since I bought the vehicle and can prove to be very dangerous when you're in close proximity to another car and the car thrusts forward.

18 Power Train problem of the 2011 BMW M3

Failure Date: 10/07/2011

Clunking noise and vibration when turning right from a stop in cooler temperatures.

19 Power Train problem of the 2008 BMW M3

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

My M3 with m-dct transmission has significant throttle delay in lower gears at rolling speeds. Car would not respond to throttle input for one second or more and then suddenly surge forward. This is a significant safety issue as the car fails to accelerate when needed.

20 Power Train problem of the 2008 BMW M3

Failure Date: 06/30/2009

I have a 2008 BMW M3 sedan, built 2/08, which I bought new in July, 2008. It has a dual clutch transmission. The problem is as follows. There is a significant hesitation or delay between stepping on the gas, and getting the car to go, when I have slowed almost to a stop, then want to accelerate. This happens all the time. It is dangerous especially when merging into traffic. In wyoming in late June, 2009, for example, I was coming from a side road onto a main highway. There was no stop sign for me, just a right curve in the road I was on, then merge into oncoming traffic on the main highway. The transmission had shifted into second gear because I had slowed down for the curve. As I turned right and stepped on the gas, nothing, it seemed like for a second or two. Oncoming traffic was moving along at a fast speed, and I almost got rear-ended before the motor finally responded to throttle input. I think this is dangerous. When I step on the gas, the motor should respond immediately, without any significant lag time. It seems like some computer is trying to figure out what to do. Maybe there is a software fix. Whatever it is, it is a dangerous condition.

21 Power Train problem of the 2009 BMW M3

Failure Date: 06/12/2009

Hello. I have a 2009 BMW M3 with the dct transmission. I am experiencing significant delays when down shifting from one gear to a lower gear. The problem occurs when you slow down, like for a turn, but do not come to a complete stop. The dct transmission seems to have a serious problem figuring out what gear to select because when you step on the gas to accelerate, there is a very significant delay in the power engaging. I would say about 2-4 seconds. By this time, I am really stepping on the gas pedal. The transmission finally picks a gear, which results in the car suddenly lurching forward, sometimes engaging the anti-skip control. This problem becomes most apparent when making a turn into on-coming traffic, slowing down to around 10-15 mph. After the turn, the car is positioned in the traffic lane, but I have no power to accelerate into the flow of traffic. The oncoming cars are now closing in on your car at a fast rate, and you're basically stuck.

22 Power Train problem of the 2009 BMW M3

Failure Date: 04/10/2009

There's a significant lag for the transmission to engage in my car which at times prevents me from getting out of the way of a potential conflict.

23 Power Train problem of the 2008 BMW M3

Failure Date: 03/24/2009

My 2008 BMW M3 e92 rapidly slows when the dct transmission is downshifting. The car lags and has almost stalled several times in the middle of the road increasing the possibility of a crash. BMW north America customer service has refused to accept that there is a problem with the dct transmission software for all of these VIN production cars. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks brad larkin.
