When a person is sitting in the front passenger seat the "passenger airbag off" light comes on and the airbag light shows on the dash like the sensor isn't registering that someone is sitting there, then after a few minutes it goes off again and does this frequently.
The airbag light is on, there is a recall on airbag sensors. Dealer wanted me to pay $170 first before they can look at the problem. I told them the airbag system has a recall on airbag sensors, but they refused to fix the problem or even diagnose the problem before I paid them $170.
I have a 2010 BMW X3 that needs a right front seat mat to correct air bag light on dash is on. Dealer told me part is on order and no person should sit in passenger seat until repaired. Will it is all most 1 year waiting on seat mat. (I had a recall for takata air bag on steering wheel replaced. Witch was done faster than this seat mat. ) I need to know how long BMW has to repair this problem???.

All other 2005 BMW X3 have a recall except for mine. I have had my airbag light come on twice. I have had my seat sensor on my passenger side replaced once. I feel like the recall should cover my vehicle.

According to your bulletin there are problems with the passenger airbag ( which I am having) but there is no recall by BMW. Airbag light goes on and off.
Passenger occupancy sensor failure. Reported under warranty when problem was intermittent, was told nothing was wrong. Problem now persistent after warranty expired and failed state inspection, can't drive until it's fixed. This was a recall item on 2005-2010 X3's and seems to be a very common problem with many models and years of BMW. Car warns about passenger restraint system failure, red airbag light comes on. Constantly chimes while driving.

Vehicle was stationary. I was changing a fuse and was leaning over from the driver seat on to the passenger seat. After changing the fuse, I started the car and the airbag light illuminated. Upon driving the car later with my wife, I noticed that the passenger airbag off light was illuminated as well. I then had the code diagnosed and it indicated a malfunctioning passenger seat sensor. I have sport comfort seats in my car.

"takata recall' my vehicle has the very same issues as the ones being recalled, but it is not on the recall list. My passenger airbag light stays on indication it is not on even when someone is sitting in the seat. It never go off. Rather in motion or stationary.
I bought my car at 88,000 miles and shortly after (5 days) my airbag light came on. I took it back to the dealer and they figured out what was wrong with it, then replaced the driver side curtain airbag. About a month later my light came on again and has been on since. Since the second time the light has come on I took it to a different dealer (because I moved) and they said it is something to do with the passenger airbags but they would have to plug it up to a computer to figure out exactly what it is.

Passenger air bag light comes on sporadically for no reason.
My airbag light is illuminated on the dash along with the "passenger airbag off" light overhead, even when someone is seated and buckled into the passenger seat. I called BMW and was told that even though my car model and year was included in the recall summary (NHTSA campaign id # 08v384000), according to them it was not affected and will not be paid for--even though I am experiencing the exact same problem as is detailed in the summary. Reading through other forums and the complaints on this site leads me to believe that more vehicles were affected than what was initially covered in the recall.
There is a recall on the BMW 2005 X3 passenger airbag. My car is not included in the recall but, has the same problems as the cars with the recall. The airbag light goes on, it goes off, it goes on, it goes off and then finally it stays on so the airbag doesn't work. I brought it into the dealer and they confirmed it is the sensor mat.

I had just started the car and the airbag light came on in the instrument cluster. The passenger air bag on/off light was also illuminated. From that time on both lights are on and I'm concerned that we don't have a passenger airbag. I'm guessing it has something to do with that sensor that tells if someone is sitting in the passenger seat.

2006 BMW X3 passenger seat airbag light activates. Nhtsa campaign id #: 08v384000 2006 BMW X3 - [xxx], produced 03/2006. 20100910 @ 1319: zach at autobahn motors in fw advised $1021 [parts and labor] to repair passenger side airbag seat mat. Zach advised recall for that specific item does not cover our vehicle due to production month being 4 months outside the recall parameters. According to NHTSA campaign id # 08v384000, small cracks in the seat mat causes the passenger airbag to deactivate and illuminate the "on-off" lamp. This is exactly the issue being experienced in my vehicle. 20100910 @ 1325: contacted BMW customer relations [800-831-1117] spoke with tom. Explained the issue to tom and he transferred me to kristin dyer. Kristin confirmed the recall ended with X3's produced in 11/2005. Spoke with richard, service manager, at autobahn. Kristin stated she would 'escalate' the matter to be determined whether it would be repaired under warranty. 20100920 @ 1326: spoke with betsy hohmann [BMW customer relations], she advised there would be "no goodwill assistance" from BMW.
