My 2013 X3 just dead on me in middle of highway, on my way to work, without and ahead notice, it was just not even 30 seconds sign of "oil pressure low" then check engine light on, car was shaking, it totally lost the power, I called road service to tow it to dealership. When I called the BMW service center, the girl just told me to clam down, doesn't need be upset. I was super upset, never expect to drive a car suddenly dead in middle of highway, it could easily get me killed, or cause seriously car accident. It was happened last may (2019), at mileage 88k, two options: trade it in for $2k or fix it $11,500 with replace new engine. I end paid it all from my own pocket. It is just one year later, the warning sign on for " drivetrain malfunction, drive moderately, maximum drivetrain output not available" sent it to dealership, I was told the turbo need replace, quote for $5500. . . How could BMW sold those poor designed crap to their customer, the issues just one after another, very disappointed, such shame on BMW, I would not buy any BMW anymore.
While approaching a stoplight, braked, then went to accelerate and the vehicle totally shutdown and stopped while driving in traffic. This was a catastrophic failure, which could have killed both occupants of this vehicle. The check engine light was activated. Upon attempting to restart the vehicle to move it out of the way of traffic, the vehicle would not start. The transmission would not be placed in neutral nor could the parking brake be disengaged so the vehicle could be pushed out of the way of traffic. This was a very dangerous situation. This vehicle is dangerous and should be taken off of the market.

I would like to file a complaint about BMW of north America missing recalls on my vehicle in 2015. I was not aware the recall and informed about the camshaft timing adjustment vanos engine stall issue. The issue is about the bolts that secure the housing for the variable camshaft timing adjustment (vanos) unit loosen over time and may possibly break which reduces the power of engine or stall. I own a 2012 bmx X3 2. 8i (VIN: 5uxwx5c58cl718505), starting last year, my check engine light has been on and off from time to time. I did not understand this defective vanos design was the reason until last month I checked my vehicle in for engine problems with rpm automotive, they ran a full diagnostics and confirmed with error codes 130c01,130108 and 131508 which indicates vano and camshaft position sensors for my n52t 6-cylinder engine. I contacted BMW dealer at orange park, FL, they ignored my request and told me my vehicle is not on the recall list. I have done the research and confirmed my vehicle X3 xdrive 28i is on the recall list. . Read more...

I brought my car into the dealership because it stalled and the check engine light came on briefly and shut off. The car was also hesitating on acceleration. The dealer determined the cause was a needed thermostat replacement. However, once under the car, the technician noted 3 of 4 engine mount bolts were "broken" and needed to be replaced. He said it was considered "wear and tear" and was not covered under warranty even though only one bolt was now holding the engine from falling out. This repair would cost approximately $400. . Firstly approximate incident date is approximate and may be off. Its just been over 2 years I have owned this BMW and I have kept my BMW for check engine error repair for 4 times at stevens creek BMW. 3 times out of this 4 has been between June 2014 to till date. Once again the check engine error is on which makes it the 5th time. At this point I don't think this BMW is reliable and I don't have the energy and patience to keep taking appointments and getting such errors fixed on monthly basis. I don't intend to keep using this vehicle and getting it fixed on monthly basis. Its good that my BMW is still under the 4 year coverage but if this wasnt available then I would have incurred huge expenses on monthly basis to get these errors fixed. Getting the same error on repeated basis proves that this BMW has a manufacturing defect. BMW customer relations isnt helping me on this. They are just wasting time saying we are getting reports from dealer and awaiting the BMW western regional team to look into this. The last check engine light came on during thanksgiving break and I took an appointment with stevens creek BMW for 12/03/2014. On 12/02/2014 the check engine light didnt come on. I checked with stevens creek BMW and they said since the check engine light isnt on we can't diagnose the reason why it had switched on so please don't bring in the BMW as we wont be of any help. So I didnt bring my BMW to dealer workshop. Based on this BMW regional management has denied looking into my case and said we can't provide any assistance.
Jan 16 - check engine sensor light came on - car running sluggish. Immediately took to dealership - they detected oil separator failing. Car started smoking at dealership. They replaced the oil separator and several parts due to damage - costs $2400. March 22nd - same sensor light came on - took car back to dealership - they have had the car for 1 week and still have not told me what is wrong with it other than there is oil everywhere and I may have head gasket or engine damage. Possibly looking at another $1k to $5k. There is a manufacturer defect with this part causing serious damage to the engine. This is widely known and well documented all over the internet. This should be addressed by BMW and consumers should be given relief on the costs. BMW should support the correction of this defect and pay for the cost of repair. Dealer (chattanooga BMW) should have also informed me about the broader issue versus me finding out on my own research.

The intake boot between the mass air sensor and the throttle body cracks over time. This causes the check engine light to come on. Even though this is a known failure item, and the car is within the cpo warranty period, BMW does not cover any hoses or tubes, as they believe they are "wear" items. Since it is not covered its a $175 dollar diagnostic fee and $38. 54 for the part vs $50 deductible. You do not know if your repair is covered until the diagnostic, so short of having to take it to another mechanic to have it checked you could be penalized $125 for wanting you car repaired under the extended warranty which you paid extra for.
The contact owns a 2006 BMW X3. While driving between 60-65 mph, the contact began decelerating for traffic and the vehicle began shaking and then shut off. Approximately two minutes later, the vehicle would restart. The failure has occurred four times and has been to the dealer three times for the stalling. The dealer could not duplicate the failure. Most recently, the engine light began illuminating intermittently. The current mileage was 18,000 and failure mileage was 16,352.
