Vehicle airbag/seatbelt warning light on 9/2022. Airbag (seatbelt) module replaced. Caused by condensation or leak due to BMW not sealing cupholders and placing key safety equipment directly under unsealed cupholders. I was told other modules likely damaged but airbags and seatbelt were first to go out. 2023 April/may - steering issues. Windshield wipers run continuously and cannot be turned off. Horn and turn signal also stopped working. Need steering column replaced. BMW said possibly also related to cupholder defect. I am concerned the unsealed cupholders are going to kill someone if airbags deploy unnecessarily or seatbelt/airbags fail. BMW should have not placed key safety equipment under unsealed drink holders.

Warning appeared on my vehicle a few months ago stating something was wrong with the restraint system. While driving out of nowhere my vehicle on it's own accord will begin rocking really hard and it has become dangerous for passengers, myself or my animals in my car. Looking further into the issue, this is a common problem with X5's and people are made to believe its a sensor issue with a hefty price. There is a warranty for vehicles that 10 years or less older that is supposed to be provided by BMW but when I call both dealerships here in the area they state that does not exist. I am taking my vehicle to bwm tomorrow morning to try and get this issue fixed. I will know more tomorrow.

I have recently received a message from my city’s social media page stating that BMW vehicles 17-22 years or older with over 99,000 miles have had complaints of default airbags exploding which are injuring/killing people out of nowhere and was told to get it changed at no cost at all!.

Vehicle is designed where acsm control unit of the airbags is located directly under the cup holder where moisture and any small leak can short it out. This has happened many times and as BMW will acknowledge the problem, they will not do any repairs under warranty to correct the issue. There is a class action lawsuit pending.

In a parking garage I found a open space and slowly moving towards that to park, car was approaching space at about 10 ft from that, all of a sudden car accelerated and lurched forward and hit the parking structure wall. Airbags deployed for all three of us, one of my colleagues was in passenger seat, another in the back seat. There was no warning on no time to react, this happens in seconds.
Passenger seat restraint system.
I have 2 Bmws with identical issues. Computer reads airbag sensor stating restraint system defective.
Front passenger side occupancy seat sensor is bad and computer detected an air bag malfunction. Timing chain broke without warning.

Restraint system notification message: fault in airbag, belt tensioner or belt force limiter. Service center advised air bag might not deploy if not fixed. This could result in death or injury during a car accident. They provided an estimate with the description of cabling correction and the service advisor also told it has to do with a resistor and low voltage in the unit. This notification message first appeared when the car was under the warranty and they fixed it but then it happens again, showing that this is a recurring problem of this unit.

I have received two malfunction alerts two months apart for both driver and passenger airbags. The first dealership reset the fault codes and the second different dealership found 4 faults and reset it as well. I learned from the second dealership that the airbag sensors sit below the cup holders, secured by a screw in each cup on the bottom base of the housing. They removed the rubber bottom portion of the cup holder and noticed there was liquid reside and the screw appeared rusted. They believe the water may have leaked through the screw and ruined the airbag sensors. If this was true, they mentioned the airbags would not work properly and I would be responsible to pay for the work performed to correct the issue since they consider this a outside influence and not covered by my warranty. I mentioned that this a a huge safety concern, a terrible design flaw, and no where in the owners manual does it warn owners of the potential safety concerns of using cup holders that seat above the airbag sensors. I contacted BMW public relations, filed a complaint, and they have heard of this complaint before and advised different safety teams would see my compliant and wait for a callback.

BMW front cup holders have hole in bottom and it allows condensation/liquid to migrate through bottom to air bag sensor located directly underneath cup holders. Consumers are at risk of air bags going off unintentionally and/or not going off at all. Sensor should not be directly under a cup holder and/or the cup holder should not have a hole directly above safety sensor. BMW design defect. Consumers are having to pay out of pocket for sensor to be replaced as it is not covered under warranty. Additionally, there is a pending class action lawsuit that has been filed and documentation of this being a problem over several BMW models is well documented in forums, etc. On the internet.
I received notification that my passenger restraint system has a malfunction. The car threw up a code, I received a phone call and text message from the dealer. I thought this was important so I took the car to the dealer. They said the detection mat needs replace and the cost would be $1811. 00. The dealer asked me if something spilled on it? the answer was no. I believe this is a safety defect an a recall should be initiated!.
To whom it may concern. Please help me on this. I purchased a BMW X5 that needed recalls installed at the BMW dealer. I purchased the vehicle, performed routine preventative maintenance, new tires, new brakes, full detail, shampooed the interior, and full wash, etc. When I took my BMW to the dealer, the BMW dealer installed the recalled items, but did not install or replace the defective frm footwell module that controls the electric windows, signals, headlights, emergency flashers, and all the interior lights. Per BMW service manager, this frm is defective from the factory because the frm does not have a relay or fuse disconnect that protects the frm from current surges or spikes. The manner and area that this frm was mounted into the BMW X5 chassis makes this frm electronic module highly susceptible to being damaged or become defective due to no fault of the vehicle driver or owner. Shame on BMW for not standing behind the quality of their vehicles. I have spent a considerable amount of money, close to one thousand dollars on the diagnosis and repair of footwell module frm on my 2011 BMW X5 vehicle. Please intervene on my behalf, hundreds of other BMW X5 owners have also been fraudulently sold defective parts and vehicles. BMW knows this is a major safety issue, yet BMW will not issue a recall until NHTSA, ntsb, or another government entity forces BMW to do the right thing. Shameful. Please intervene on our behalf. Respectfully, jordan guerra 562-400-7738.

The car has a faulty cup holder that allows fluid to leak. Below the cup holder is crash module, which controls the airbags and all the safety restraint system. I had a minor amount of fluid leak. This caused corrosion on the ascm module. BMW is fighting me in paying for this. Based on my research there have been hundreds of incidents and a class action lawsuit. This is clearly a defect in design. If this would have happened when I was driving with an accident that followed, none of the safety equipment would have worked thanks, paul.
About a year ago, coffee began leaking from below from a paper cup in the plastic cupholder of my X5. I immediately noticed it and cleaned it up. Approximately 1-2 ounces of liquid leaked into the plastic cupholder. On may 11, 2022, the passenger restraint system faulted and the light came on. The vehicle was inspected by BMW of austin and stated that liquid seeped onto the airbag control module and some of the pins were corroded. This would not be covered by the warranty as it was deemed an "external" factor that caused the failure. The estimate to fix this issue and get the airbag functioning again is $2,005. 00. BMW placed the airbag control module right under the plastic cupholder, and does not seal the plastic cupholder or the important airbag control module right under the plastic cupholder. Luckily, the airbag system did not automatically stop the vehicle as has been the case with other vehicles- x7 and X5. This is a design failure that BMW is aware of that leaves its customers at risk of injury due to the airbag system faulting. This issue is ongoing and affects all X5 and x7 models. BMW needs to provide a remedy to this design and safety flaw. Owners should not have to pay $2,000 to remedy. There is a class action lawsuit filed in December 2021 for this exact issue.
I am getting a this message “passenger restraint system malfunction. A lot of people are getting the same message. I find out the reason for that is water is getting inside the car every time is raining from the passenger side and moisture buildup causing that. Every time I have to use a space heater to dry the car and is cleared it. But I am afraid the airbag not work properly if this keep happening and BMW is charging a lot of money this fix it after few months is came back again.
The contact owns a 2021 BMW X5. The contact stated while his wife was reversing the vehicle into the main road, when shifting gears into drive, the vehicle began to reverse independently while still depressing on the brake pedal. The contact stated the vehicle ran into two different trees and slashed the front driver side tire. The contact stated the park distance control (pdc) malfunction warning light was illuminated. No air bags deployed. The driver did not have any injuries nor seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. The contact was able to park the vehicle back into his residence. The contact towed the vehicle to local dealer, who called the manufacturer. The manufacturer send their engineers to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer called the contact and was informed it was a human failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.
Traveling west on I-70 at the eagle colorado exit the brakes failed as we pulled off the highway the brakes failed. Went up the ramp at 50-60 mph. Missed the cars waiting to enter the round-a-bout and went over a decorative divider about 3 feet high. Went in the air and was then traveling on the wrong side of street. Saw a fireplug and hit it at 20-30 mph and that stopped us. No airbags deployed at either hit. Four in the car and no serious medical issues, just soreness. Had police and fire test the brakes to show they didn't work. Obviously the air bags hadn't deployed. Filed police report with eagle city, 2021-000417 and aig insurance report 80255229. Car was declared totaled.
Srs (airbag system) unit that is located underneath center console cupholder can be damaged by a small amount of liquid. Once srs is damaged, a restraint system failure notification is alerted and the vehicle becomes immobile. Similar recall was issued in the past : recall number 96v107000 manufacturer stated that neither the cupholder nor srs unit is not watersealed. As the srs unit seats directly underneath the non-watersealed cupholder it is not surprising to say that this may cause liquid damage while vehicle is in motion. Incident : vehicle was purchased June 2021, a week later a restraint system failure notification was displayed. Towed the vehicle back to the deaelarship and found out that the srs unit was damaged due to liquid. Dealer explains that liquid may leak through the cupholder and disable srs unit. Srs unit was replaced with new, but no other prevention was made.
Driving my vehicle and on my screen popped up driver seat restraint malfunction, also rear seat restraint malfunction please go to closest dealership. I bring my vehicle to BMW dealership in my town and rep calls me and advise that the cup holders sit above the srs wiring and that liquid gets thru the cup holders and dripped on to the wires causing them to no longer work. This is a design flaw I have never spilled a drink in my cup holder and even if someone did on accident why is the airbag wires not covered in plastic if going below cup holders that leak any type of liquid. I am unable to afford, I do have warranty however BMW stating that this is an outside interferance and will not be covered under warranty, so I am having to drive with no airbags. I researched and many others are having same issue with this same year and make different models. This is something that definatly needs to be recalled as it is a design flaw and a safety hazard.
Front passenger seat occupancy mat (oc3) problem safety code. Supplemental restraint system (srs/air bag system) I contacted BMW of north America and they stated my 2010 BMW X5 is to old, one way to look at it. I requested assistance and BMW will not help out. I am the original owner and my vehicle is garage kept. This air bag will not deploy and the passenger could be killed and or injured in a accident.

Airbag light on, passenger airbag off light illuminated. Diagnostic scan showed faulty front passenger seat occupancy detector. BMW issued recall campaign 13v-564 for vehicles manufactured from Dec 05 to sept 06. My vehicle was manufactured 06/06 and is displaying all the symptoms from recall 13v-564 yet BMW USA claims my vehicle is not effected.
This car has relatively few miles (85k), and has always been operated by a single person. The passenger seat cushion has a sensor mat that activates the passenger airbag. With relatively fewer miles and very few passengers, the passenger seat didn't experience the normal use as likely modeled by BMW. However, during the fall of 2020, (during the height of covid), a warning light stating the passenger air bag had a malfunction. We were in the midst of nursing and the warning light then went out during the first three months of 2021. When it came on again in may, 2021, I asked BMW about it as was told, "that's campaign 13v-564. The front passenger airbag seat occupancy sensor mat isn't working. This means, if there's an accident, the airbag protecting the passenger won't deploy. " apparently there as a "safety check" on this in 2014 and the recall closed as of January 2021. . . . So, I was four months past the expiration date of their safety check for this important malfunctioning seat cushion. As advised by a BMW representative, I requested "goodwill assistance" with covering all or some of this repair (estimated at approx $2k). I was just told that BMW will not provide any goodwill assistance with this and there is apparently no one within BMW customer relations I can escalate this to. So, I am reaching-out to the NHTSA in hopes someone can assist me in navigating this. It seems to me, an important safety item such as a passenger sensor for airbag deployment on a car with fewer miles (and passengers) than average, experiencing a brief warning that didn't repeat during covid when we were unable to get to a BMW dealership, and for a "safety check" issue that just ended prior to us contacting BMW to repair is something I don't think BMW should be able to Dodge.
The contact owns a 2006 BMW X5. The contact stated that the driver’s and passenger’s side air bags warning lights were illuminated. The contact had initially notified the dealer about the defect and was referred to the manufacturer. The manufacturer informed the contact that there were no recalls on the VIN. The contact was referred to the dealer for the repair. The contact was informed that he might be entitled to a reimbursement if the VIN gets added to a recall. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The contact owns a 2008 BMW X5. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bags warning light was illuminated. There was an abnormal chiming sound detected. Additionally, the digital screen was obstructed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed the sensor mat needing to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 117,000.

Water keeps coming inside the car every time its raining outside ,I took the car to a BMW dealership and they fixed staying that the roof drains were clogged, after a month again water inside my car after the rain ,I took my car back to the dealership and they fixed again they charged me even though I had a warranty , now after couple of months again water inside the car affecting the electric under the passenger seat and all over the car , please look in to this matter this was a 90k BMW ,we have kids traveling inside the car and we don't want the electric or airbags to get on fire or explode, thank you we appreciate it .
2007 X5 4. 8 with panoramic sunroof, sunroof tray overflows and leaks into interior electrical, airbags, and carpet due to defective design/assembly (both when stationary and in motion). Sunroof drains both front and rear have drain tubes which are prone to kink and back up water into the sunroof tray, which then spills over onto the topside of the headliner and from there onto just about every electronic item in the car including air bags and controllers, lighting controls, and electrical boxes on the floor and trunk area. Some have reported arcs and car fires due to the water damage; BMW says it is a maintenance issue although has zero listed for sunroof maintenance, and no amount of cleaning is going to fix the sunroof drain lines that I found twisted. . . Likely been that way since initial assembly, but routing down inside the apillars makes it nearly impossible to get to try to fix it, much less see it. I can't believe this defect hasn't involved NHTSA recall since it can very easily lead to an in-use electrical fire at worst, or at best failure of airbags to deploy when needed due to water/corrosion issues, as well as thousands of dollars in electrical damage for each occurrence.
