What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the engine and/or powertrain system catastrophically failed while the vehicle was in motion on the freeway. The vehicle lost power, shut down, and became disabled. The vehicle is currently in the possession of the Buick dealership and is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the failure occurred while driving my husband and children in fast-moving freeway traffic. The vehicle suddenly lost power and shut down, forcing us to coast to the shoulder while traffic was moving around us. This created an extremely dangerous situation that could have resulted in a serious crash, injuries, or fatalities to my family and other motorists. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. The Buick dealership confirmed the engine failure and advised that the vehicle needs a replacement engine. The vehicle was towed directly to the dealership following the incident and was declared inoperable. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? the vehicle has been inspected by an authorized Buick dealership service department. The manufacturer (gm/Buick) has been notified, and a corporate case has been opened. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes. Multiple warning alerts appeared immediately before the shutdown, including critical warnings such as low oil pressure and instructions to turn the vehicle off. Moments later, the vehicle lost power completely and shut down.
I am filing this safety complaint regarding a sudden and dangerous engine failure in a 2010 Buick Enclave cxl purchased from frankfort car outlet on 8/25/2025. On 10/25/2025, while driving on the expressway, the engine suddenly began knocking, lost power, and stalled. This created a serious safety risk to myself and other drivers. The failure occurred only 60 days after purchase and approximately 2,000 miles later, suggesting a pre-existing internal defect that the dealership did not disclose. The dealership has refused to inspect the vehicle, acknowledge the safety risk, or assist in any way. This type of sudden engine failure could pose a serious hazard if similar vehicles have the same issue, and I believe NHTSA should be aware of the potential risk.

The contact owns a 2018 Buick Enclave. The contact stated that after picking up the vehicle from the dealer for a different failure, the exhaust pipe made an abnormally loud sound while driving. The check engine and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who determined that the catalytic converter had failed and informed the contact that the catalytic converter and the front exhaust pipe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to special coverage adjustment: n212356540 (front exhaust pipe); however, the VIN was not covered. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I came to a stop in the left turn lane at an intersection with a red light with the car in drive and my foot engaged on the brake to wait for the light to turn green. The car suddenly and completely died and all power was shut down. I was not able to engage the hazards. It was dark outside and I was afraid cars behind me would hit me. It was an incredibly dangerous situation with no warning. I exited the vehicle and got to the side of the road. The police arrived and were able to push the car to the side of the road as well. I opened the hood and checked the negative battery terminal and upon pulling the lever, the power came back on. We have an appointment at a gm dealership on Monday to fix the issue to ensure we are not put at risk again.
I am a [xxx] and owner of a 2018 Buick Enclave that suffered a catastrophic transmission failure which nearly killed me and my child. On Friday, [xxx], while driving westbound on [xxx] from edison, NJ to my home in easton, PA, my vehicle suddenly and without warning came to a complete halt in the fast lane. A driver tailgating me swerved at the last second to avoid impact. Moments later, when I tried to move again, the car lost all power and drifted helplessly across two lanes of speeding traffic, directly into the path of two tractor-trailers barreling down at highway speeds. This was the hottest day of the summer, and I was left in terror, fully aware that one wrong move would have ended our lives instantly. The fact that my child could have lost their only parent because of a mechanical defect is beyond unacceptable. The stress, fear, and trauma of this incident cannot be overstated—it was a near-fatal event that never should have happened. My mechanic has since confirmed the transmission is destroyed, with black metal fragments throughout—clear evidence of internal failure. Only two months earlier, in June 2024, the car passed inspection with no codes or signs of a problem. This was not wear and tear; it was a hidden, catastrophic defect. In December 2024, gm recalled more than 461,000 vehicles, including certain 2018 Enclave models, for transmission defects leading to rollaway and internal failure. Source: the lemon firm, 12/18/24 [xxx] ). My case mirrors the defect exactly, yet I never received recall notice. I demand gm confirm my VIN’s inclusion and cover the full cost of repair or replacement. I barely escaped a fatal crash. Gm must act immediately before lives are lost. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Wednesday August 6th 2025, I was coming home from work, the low engine compression and engine light came on the car was shaking and I lost power on a busy road, I had to pull it off the road quickly before I lost all power. I stayed there for a few minutes, then turned the car back on to retreat to a safer spot, I then waited for my husband to bail me out, we checked the oil on the dipstick, there was minimal oil on it. We added 1 quart of oil, then the lights went off, all seemed fine. August 23rd 2025, I was driving my car and the same thing happened car lit up with low engine compression and engine light came on car was shaking, I shit the car off. We added 1quart of oil. But the engine light stayed on after about 30 min. I shut the car off. The engine light went off after I shut the car off.
The front exhaust pipe bracket has broken. Upon investigation, this is an ongoing issue for 2018-2019, and 2021-2023 chevy traverse and Buick Enclave models, but not 2020. All of the models use the exhaust system and same bracket, and it should be included as a special coverage. In fact, the attached picture of my vehicle will show that it is an identical break to those pictures used in the previous bulletins. Any help is appreciated. Front exhaust bracket detached from exhaust. An issue that has resulted in a hole in my exhaust. This same issue has been identified and warranty extended for 2019 and 2021 Enclaves with the same engine and exhaust parts. Dealership wants to change $1000 to fix the issue.
Electric issues, the recall for the sunroof was not disclosed and was not inspected properly…water and debris get clogged and goes into the in the engine.

During a rainstorm water is entering the fuse box under the glove box and the carpet and padding underneath is soaking wet on the right front floor. When the fuse case was opened water started to drip out. The engine continues to run with the key off and the only way to stop it is to pull the ignition fuse under the hood. Unfortunately the battery died by morning and I could not get it charged for a few days. Now I have learned how to take the battery cover off which is located in the back of the car and remove the plastic covers under the mat so I can disconnect the battery so it doesn't run down. The rear wiper will not shut off now since this started. I am a 75 yr old widow and wonder how this problem has not been on a recall. It causes a very dangerous situation. I will try to see if I can get it into a Buick dealer this week and pray god it doesn't cost me an arm and leg to repair it. There are service bulletins on this problem and seems to be quite freqent yet I have not received any notifications from you. If this happens at night in a parking lot what am I to do? can the car catch on fire by not shutting off?.

Welds have broken loose from exhaust creating a hole and loud noise & strong exhaust smell.
The contact owns a 2015 Buick Enclave. The contact stated that upon inspection it was discovered that the vehicle was leaking engine oil. Additionally, the second-row driver’s side seat belt buckle had fractured and was inoperable. No further information was available. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 270,000,.
Start/stop function malfunctioned in the middle of the road, this has happened multiple times before and after replacing starter and battery, looked at by several mechanics. If I stop the car at a light or in traffic my car will dint turn back on or let me shift. Thus a safety issue because I could have been hit as it stopped in a busy road and people had to move around my vehicle. Engine light came on after failure and ceased the engine and I couldn’t move to the intersection. I also just got an oil change. They first appeared a few months ago and I had already gotten work done on it and it keeps happening.

On sept 6th the check engine light came on. A diagnostic test showed it was code p0442 related to the canister purge valve /solenoid. It also showed that it was a permanent thing that had been on there a while but when I look up my VIN number there is no recalls for it, but there is for other 2019 Buick Enclaves.
The contact owns a 2017 Buick Enclave. The contact stated while driving at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle was vibrating, with the electronic stability warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic had not diagnosed or repaired the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced intermittent engine failure prior to the vehicle stalling. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The car shuts off at random when coming out of autostop, the car will disable power steering when coming out of autostop to make turns making it difficult to turn the steering wheel. Coming out of autostop is typically when you are trying to go or make a turn. This has been an ongoing issue that happens often. The issues began around 60k miles.
My car starting sputtering on take off from stops, extremely dangerous if you’re trying to get out in traffic and keep up quickly from a stop. Then when I took it to get looked at it the mechanic said it needs a new transmission. Now my family is stuck because that’s our only vehicle big enough for our growing family. They’re was a check engine light that keeps coming on.
The vehicle's exhaust intermediate pipe mount has broken has caused damage in the intermediate pipe requiring both the be replaced. The cracked exhaust allows exhaust fumes to enter the passenger compartment. A recall (n222385510) for 2021 Chevrolet traverse has been made however is addressing this on only the 2021 models, even though the same issue is applicable to other models. On the this forum, there are several complaints of this design flaw reported. Https://gmauthority. Com/blog/2023/06/gm-to-fix-2021-chevy-traverse-front-exhaust-pipe-issue/.
I took my car in for routine maintenance service and requested them to investigate a rattle noise when the car is started and when it idles. The vehicle was around 96k mile range. The repair center said it was the fuel injection system and it was normal. Fast forward to now, I have 111k miles, same rattle noise, and took my car back to shop for routine maintenance service and investigation into the rattle noise. It's the timing chain. Timing chain was stretched to the point where it couldn't be tightened and had to have over $4000 worth of repairs done to replace the chain and other damaged components. I pulled my owners manual and even searched online for the oem recommended inspections for major components of my car and nothing about having timing chain inspected at any specific mileage point, or any other major components that could fail are listed for major components that could be inspected for wear and tear at said mileage milestones. The fact that prior year models had recalls due to failed timing chains, you'd expect to see following year cars, of the same body style, to have a heightened recommended inspection schedule to make sure the solution to the prior recall worked.
The engine and fuel pump system failed while driving the vehicle. It is available upon request to inspect. I just towed it to the shop today on 10/22/25 to get a full inspection. My sister and I were put at risk while driving towards a hill in san francisco. It was on a busy main road when suddenly the vehicle began to jerk and thud back and forth. While I pushed the gas pedal, I began to question why the vehicle was suddenly reacting this way. In efforts to pull over to the side, a huge smoke fog began to come out of the exhaust pipe. As I tried to reach the curb the car didn’t want to move any further as I pushed on the gas. I put it in park and called the tow truck (receipts below) while there were cars passing me by almost causing an accident. I have looked online to see if there was a problem or recall with this vehicle having the same issue I was having. Come to find out there was a recall issued for certain vehicles only, with the same issue as my vehicle. The vehicle was taken into a local auto shop, where they diagnosed it and inspected it. The reports show it has the same exact issues with the car as those that were recalled. No there were not any warning signs nor failure signals. Due to this reason, I was completely caught off guard.
Driving along and engine power reduced causing car to slow significantly - like downshifting two gears. Lights / traction control lights came on dash. Errors flashed - "traction control off", "service stabilitrak", "engine power reduced" all of this not only caused a slight bit of confusion, but placed us in danger with the flow of traffic. A repair shop replaced the gas pedal, however issue persists. Research indicates the throttle body sensor might be at fault - so we replaced this. Issue persisted, so I spent time online and found a gm TSB indicating a known issue and extending the warranty 10 years or 120k miles for p2138 code. At this point, this issue persists intermittently, so we do not consider the vehicle safe to drive.

Driving on the interstate at approx. 70 mph when the vehicle made a lurch forward motion. The vehicle lost power. We were near a exit ramp and coast to the intersection. Vehicle would start but would not shift out of park. We could not move the vehicle. It would not even go into neutral to push the vehicle to safety. The police were called to direct traffic, while waiting for a tow truck. We attempted to restart the vehicle several time so we could it in neutral during the next 45 minutes . The police had to leave and made a final try to put the vehicle in neutral after restarting, it went into neutral . The vehicle was pushed to the shoulder and the police put flares out to advise of a disabled vehicle, and left the scene. After about 2hours and 50 minutes the tow truck arrived. The truck operator got into the vehicle, started the vehicle and put it into drive and drove it onto the flat bed tow truck. Vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was purchased. We bought the Buick new, 2024, with 3 miles on it. When this occurred it had 1814 miles on it March 13th 2024. Our phone app for my Buick states that diagnostics results shows engine and transmission system to service now. Today is April 6 2024. Vehicle still not repaired. Cause of problem a sensor or transmission over heated and locked up the transmission. Once it cooled it could be moved. Buick customer care were notified case # available.
What does it mean when my car says service stabilitrak and service traction control? its main function is indicating that the traction system has been turned off manually to remind you to turn it back on when necessary. However, the stabilitrak warning light may also signal potential damage to vehicle components that allow the system to work effectively. Loss of power to engine, can't stear, feels like its about to blow up. It seems very usual for the Enclaves, traverses and acadias. And I had the same problem out of my 2014 traverse ltz.
2020 Buick Enclave mounting bracket separated from the front exhaust pipe which caused a hole to appear in the exhaust pipe. This is a known issue for 2019, 2021, and 2022 Buick Enclaves. No warning light the exhaust fumes along with carbon monoxide were coming through my ac vents for several months. There is no indication on when the mounting bracket separated.
The contact owns a 2014 Buick Enclave. The contact stated that the ignition switch was previously replaced. Additionally, the message "check stability system" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the fuse box and engine struts were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v334000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
While driving down the road, the locks on the doors will suddenly lock, unlock, lock and unlock. After that the engine slows way down losing power, then it will be okay to give it more gas and it speeds up. The last couple of times this happened, the car lost all power and stahled.
My vehicle stalls for no reason. The engine power is redused, stabilitrack, and traction control lights come on. The vehicle stalls in the middle of traffic. The brake and steertng wheel don't work when the engine stalls. The seatbelt and airbag light comes on. I went to get that repaired and the dealer told me that the repair time period had expired.
Engine reduced, traction control, and stabilitytrak lights came on 11/3/2023. Car died on me while I was sitting in traffic. Took car to firestone on 11/9. They stated car needed oil change and tune up. On 11/17/2023 while in the line at a drive through lights came on again and car died in drive thru. Car was towed back to firestone. Firestone said it was pulling codes they didn't know and the car needed to go a Buick dealer. Towed car to bob brown Buick on 11/24/2023 bob brown said car just needed a battery. After one hour the car lights popped on again and car died in the middle of the street. Towed car back to bob brown another diagnosis was completed and was told I needed a catalyst converter. Towed car to midas and paid another diagnosis. Midas fixed 3 gaskets and sensors. Car died again driving down the street going 35mph almost causing an accident. This electrical problem is very dangerous and unsafe.
The mounting bracket on the front exhaust pipe separates from the pipe. This issue has been identified on 2019 and 2021 models and special coverage adjustment n212356540 front exhaust pipe has been issued. The same exact defect has occured to my 2020 model Enclave.
