8 Ignition Switch problem of the 2008 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 01/15/2015

The car's air bag light by the speedometer has been illuminating intermittently at various speeds whether there is a passenger in the passenger seat or not. The passenger seat air bag on/off light near glove compartment turns to off when the speedometer air bag light illuminates. In June, I took the car into an independent mechanic to get the problem fixed. Unfortunately, the computer doesn't store a code for this problem. The mechanic tried to improve the connection to the passenger seat and "relearned" the computer; however, the problem still occurs. Mechanic said it "might" be a $1,000 fix which involves part of the passenger seat cushion itself! it cost me $100 to find out this much and attempt a correction, but $1,000 is ridiculous; especially for a "maybe" fix. I see others are having this problem, too. I've already had the ignition switch key fix at the dealership. I also already had the problem with the headlights turning off as we were driving down the road; our independent mechanic fixed that and I'm still waiting for the gm reimbursement on that. Hoping we can get gm to fix this air bag problem before it causes injuries.

16 Ignition Switch problem of the 2010 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

I was traveling on the highway at 5:30am with minimal traffic. While traveling at 66mph, I put the car into cruise control. Then I pulled my foot off the gas pedal that placed it flat footed with me leg towards the seat. I am a short person. I have 3 house keys on a ring attached to the car key. I felt my knee touch the dangling keys. At that moment, the electrical system and car shut down. I had no power brakes or no power steering, etc. I was in the lane closest to the breakdown lane. I was able get the car into the breakdown lane and cost to a stop. (fortunately no traffic passed me until I finally stopped. ) the ignition key and switch was in the on position when I stopped. I was able to restart the car by placing the car in park and restarting the car. I brought the car to the dealership. They looked at the car and found no error codes. They could not duplicate my problem. They told me I must have shut off the ignition switch with my knee. I attempted to do this an cannot turn the key off with my knee. I addition, my knee does not reach the switch without lifting it up at least a couple inches. I only brushed the bottom of the dangling house keys. 2010 should be included in the recall!!!.

17 Ignition Switch problem of the 2007 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

Who are we kidding with this recall? (NHTSA 14v355, gm 14299) correcting a faulty ignition switch with an extra key ring and a paper to add to the owner's manual is a lawyer's solution. Is this a design defect, or is it not? why is it not adequate? 1) it does not insure that the weight of the keys will not cause shutdown. It only makes it a little less likely. 2) in a year's time, even the current owner's will have forgotten the solution. Even if it's in the car's manual, does anyone ever actually read the manual end-to-end?. Let alone rereading it regularly to refresh their knowledge? it's only there, if at all, for reference. 3) how many second owner's even get the manual? how many will get keysets with the extra ring? my experience is few, if any, subsequent owners will have any reminder of this recall. Let's get serious and be responsible. If there is a design or manufacturing safety defect, then fix it! deflecting liability to the owner is horse-pucky!.
