3 Wiring problem of the 2013 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 01/06/2016

Complete blackout of monitor (navigation screen) including rear view camera while while driving on city streets and highways and happened once during startup of vehicle. Sometimes before blackout vertical lines appear. Estimated time of blackout has lasted more than one minute and I have had to pull over until it appears. I have had passengers in the vehicle who have witnessed this occurrence. I have taken my vehicle maybe 2 or 3 times to the Buick dealership, the last time they replaced the full monitor, as they could not find what was causing the problem. The problem is still occurring and even worse because its happening more frequently. I am going to the Buick dealership tomorrow about this and a new problem with the seats not heating up, which was never a problem until the screen blanked out one night. I'm suspicious if this is related to whatever is causing the problem with the monitor. There may be some wiring/computer/technical glitch which need to be investigated. I hope the nhsa will investigate this issue, as I consider it a safety hazard. A response back would be appreciated.

5 Wiring problem of the 2009 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

I was driving on parkway in nassau county at 11:30 am on 7/2/15 on a sunny day and the windshield wipers started going up and down slowly, I had not put them on. While driving I tried to stop the wipers to no avail. The computer on dashboard stated 'open hood' but as I was driving the hood was definitely not open. I later realized the computer was saying. . . Open the hood. A few moments later I saw smoke coming out of the passenger side of the hood and the computer said something like 'system failure'. I immediately pulled over, turned off the car and took the keys. The windshield wipers were still moving even though the car was off and keys were out of the ignition. A volunteer firefighter from local area saw my car, pulled over, opened the hood and used an extinguisher on the fuse box which was smoking badly although we didn't see flames. He disconnected the cables on the fuse box, local fire department and NY state trooper arrived. My car was towed to my mechanics garage. We have since found out that the fuse box was distroyed with most damage to the hdm relay as position #35 is severely damaged. I believe this is also next to the windshield wiper relay which is why they went on. Also 3 major wiring harnesses were melted and destroyed. We don't know if the computer or any other feature under the hood is affected at this time. The damage at this point is estimated to be $4,000 in parts and labor not including possible computer damage. I have seen on the internet that my car is included in recall n140291 loss of low beam hdm dated 11/25/14 but that gm 'will' provide a plan for remedying the defect. Also on the internet is has been reported by many people that they had similar issues with fire starting in the fuse box in hdm position #35. This is a serious situation that needs to be addressed and resolved now by gm before someone is hurt in a fire.

10 Wiring problem of the 2009 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

The owner had been smelling a bad odor when she arrived at her destination in a mall parking lot. The odor did not fade when the vehicle engine was turned off and subsequently opened the hood. Black smoke was seen coming from the fuse block. Upon removing the cover to the fuse block, the owner observed a small fire which caused damage to the wiring harness. The vehicle was later examined by an independant engineering consultant who identified the origin of the fire. The orgin was placed at the # 35 position in the fuse block which was occupied by the hdm module. It was later learned from the owner that an unexplained headlight outtage had occurred sometime prior to the fire and that turning off the engine and restarting the vehicle caused the headlights to come on again. The event never occurred again. It was further determined that there have been several instances of highlight failure that have been reported to NHTSA and are available in the "complaints" section of a search for recalls of this vehicle.

11 Wiring problem of the 2013 Buick Lacrosse

Failure Date: 04/06/2013

4/6/2013 my 2013 Buick Lacrosse 4 cylinder model was parked in driveway. At 9pm my husband went outside to get something from the car and saw the car on fire with flames coming from the back end rear bumper. By the time he could get a hose to put out the fire, the back bumper, the rear side on the passenger side and the rear tail lights had all melted from the heat. The car has been in the body shop since 4/8/2013 and no work can be done because the shop can not get a critical part from gm. The part is the wiring harness for the eassist and gm does not have this part in their parts inventory. On 5/6/2012, I contacted gm customer service and was told that the dealer can order the part only no one can give a date when the part will be available. I was told it could be two weeks or 6 months. The wiring harness is wired by hand and gm only has the stock on hand for their assembly line. Until I saw the 5/6/2013 article on the fire risk associated with this model car, I had thought that this was arson. I now believe that I am dealing with a defective car and no one from gm told me of a recall. I found the article as a result of a web search. I have been without my car for one month and my insurance company has tried to work with the dealer to get definitive information on when part can be available. The dealer has to install the wiring harness prior to the body shop doing any work. Now based on its recall, I suspect that this is the source of the fire. Too coincidental!. . Updated 05/08/13 updated 05/15/lj the consumer stated the fire was caused by arson. Updated 05/29/2013.
