My boyfriend was driving my car. I was in the passenger's seat. We had just pulled away from the curb and were going about 20 mph. For no reason, the passenger's side airbag deployed. We didn't hit anything, and nothing hit us. We pulled over and got out. The car was filled with smoke. I had pain in my abdomen and couldn't hear out of my right ear. The windshield on my side of the car(passenger's side) was broken from the impact. He took me to the local er to be checked out and I was examined and released with contusions of right knee, abdomen and right ear. It was a terrifying experience and scared us both very much. I reported this to my insurance carrier the next morning. My boyfriend was not injured.
The upper dash pad is peeling from its backing, opening a 1" gap approximately a foot across, in front of the top of the steering wheel and directly behind the defroster grille housing. I have filed a complaint with gm, requesting financial assistance with repairs. Gm created a case file (#71-969127956) and I was denied any assistance. I then requested to speak with the gm district rep, who also denied any assistance and would not acknowledge knowing of Buick having a problem with this component. The repair estimate I obtained is $1080. 20. I first observed the problem when the vehicle had 47,000 miles. The passenger side air bag is enclosed in this pad and I am concerned that if the split in the dash extends far enough, it could cause the air bag to deploy. The vehicle now has 48,000 miles and aside from this problem, is in immaculate
condition. Please advise me of any pending action NHTSA may be considering to force gm to take responsibility for this defect, which has been has also been reported to you by several other Buick owners. I would like to know that you are serious about representing the public in vehicle defect matters.

The dashboard on the vehicle has come loose from the grill under the window and is rising up. It has released almost all the way across the windshield and makes it difficult to see out the windshield. Also it has exposed the passenger side airbag.

My dashboard started to separate from the drivers side and is going over to passengers side airbag. Half way there now. I'm worried about the airbag gooing off when I'm driving. The dealer says it cannot be fixed that it needs to have a whole new dashboard put in. I think this is happening to alot of the Buicke Lesabres. It just keeps going little by little everyday over to the passenger side and I'm worried. I don't thinki should have to be the one to pay for this product that was faulty in the first place.

Dash board seperation from left to right towards passenger side airbag. Dealer & auto body shop offer no fix.
I was driving to work early in the morning on a paved town road when the driver's side air bag suddenly deployed. A few seconds later, the passenger's side air bag also suddenly deployed. The air bags obstructed my vision both in front and on the side. I was able to pull the car off the road without getting into an accident, but this could have caused a crash because of my obstructed vision there was no injury involved. The car had passed a maine safety inspection in may 2009, so there was no indication that a problem existed at the time that I purchased the car in June 2009 from a friend. The deployment of the air bags tore up the middle of the steering wheel and the dashboard on the passenger's side. The local dealership did nothing to correct the failure, but said the car should not be driven.
2001 Buick Lesabre VIN 1g4hp54k214257268 dash pad has been peeling upward toward windshield. Started in front of steering wheel and has migrated across to the passenger side. Also peeling apart on corners and above glove box. As the passenger side has worsened, there is a noise that I suspect is coming from the passenger side air bag. I am concerned about a deployment of the passenger side air bag. The dash looks to be a blast away unit when the air bag is deployed. If the passenger side air bag were to deploy under normal driving conditions it may obscure the view of the driver.
Consumer was driving between 60-75 mph on the highway when both air bags deployed for no apparent reason. There were no potholes or bumps in the road that would have caused the air bags to engage. After the air bags deployed the car was filled with brown smoke and fire was coming out of both air bags. After the vehicle was stopped the driver put out the passenger side air bag flame. The driver side flame went out by itself. There were only one injury. The passenger suffered bruising to the lower part of the stomach and the thighs. There were no marks left on the vehicle. Driver put the air bag back in the driver air bag compartment and drove the vehicle home. The only thing burnt was the air bags and that was the only damage. The manufacturer has been contacted. Manufacturer sent out an inspector to check out the damage to the car and take pictures. The manufacturer then referred the consumer to insurance carrier. The consumer felt that gm should have been responsible for fixing the air bags. Consumer wanted to know why that the air bags were burning. There was no police report filed. Consumer has no mailing address or phone number for the dealership.

The dash pad on my 2001 Buick le sabre has separated and buckled up approximately six inches in height and mostly in front of my steering wheel, however it is lifted 3/4 of the way across the entire dash. It is now open in the front along where it meets the windshield. It has lifted almost all the way to the passenger side air bag. Upon reading on line, I see that this is a very common problem for 2001 through 2005 Buicks and I am just another complaint to add to the list. The rise in the dash certainly effects my view while driving. I have placed a thick pad on top of my drivers seat to raise my body. This assists me, so I am able to peer over the raised dash while driving. I am greatly concerned that the separation, is going to suddenly deploy my passenger side air bag.
Horn ble wout intermittently. Took vehicle to dealer, and they stated that driver's side airbag needed replacement. Please provide any further information.
