1 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 07/31/2025

We have a Buick Lucerne 2010. We went out it would not start. Tow it to dealership they replace the fuel pump. We did. Get it home next day it will not start again. Tow it to dealership again. This time they find melted wire connectors. Under back seat and on a fuse box. They replace them it starts and melt them again. This time they call to junk yards to get a used fuse box and connectors. Because of cost. The junk yards did tell them it's a known problem with these cars and they sell these fuse boxes and connectors sell as fast as they get them. We said no used parts on this car. Come to find out that gm now's about this problem. And has not done anything about it. They meaning gm. Has even put out papers on the internet as how to try and fix it. Such as cut the insulation around the fuse box. And even cutting the seat belt bracket. My wife drives this car everyday. Now she is afraid of it. Because if it happened once could it happen again. I don't now. I have drove gm's all my life but am not happy about this. What do I do. Please help. I am a retired firefighter and I do not want her to drive this car if it could catch fire.

2 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 05/28/2025

I purchased the vehicle a week before the incident. There were no warning lights or messages and nothing to indicate there was a problem. I was driving in a crowded parking lot so I was going very slow. When I turned my car suddenly died. My husband was passenger and my daughter and 2 sons were in the back. Smoke started coming from the seat and we all rushed out of the car while the seat was on fire. My husband pulled the seat out and put the fire out. I was not aware the battery is located under the back seat. I had the car towed and inspected by a mechanic. I was told the battery does not have a cover so the metal from the seat was touching the battery causing the fire. The battery is a top post battery that is recommended for this vehicle. I can find no information about a battery cover. The vehicle is available for inspection. I have photos and the report from the mechanic but I'm having trouble uploading them.

6 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 09/10/2024

Fuse box (rear) 2008 Buick Lucerne cxl. Fuel pump relay burns fuses out quickly. The fuse box located under the back seat has been having issues of burning where the fuel pump relay is located. It then in turn shorts out the fuse box which keeps needing to be replaced. This is a safety issue as it catches fire under the back seat. Fuse box has been replaced before and continues to have issues and melts, causing the vehicle to die in mid traffic, does at stop lights or even just parked and running it dies out and smells like burning plastic. The fuse box has caught fire several times. The issue has been confirmed by several mechanics and dealerships. Also there is a history of electrical problems with the rear fuse box in carfax. There was no warning, and now the check engine light is illuminated. We bought the vehicle last year in June of 2024. There seem to be no problems at the time until shortly after we had bought the vehicle. Turns out there's a long history of electrical problems involving the rear fuse box with this vehicle. I have uploaded screenshots of the car report on this vehicle. There are more complaints.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 08/26/2024

The airbag lights on and there is an electrical issue also that causes the car to smoke and nearly catch fire, as soon as the battery is reconnected. Therefore rendering it non drivable. It's the same problems that are associated with the 2006 lucern,s. When I look up the year make and model it says there should be a recall but once you put in the VIN it nothing comes up. The vehicle is readily available upon request but has not been inspected by anyone else.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 07/26/2024

The car died suddenly and would not start, with no warnings or codes. Towed it to a midas repair shop and it was diagnosed as a corroded low profile fuel pump relay. This was replaced, and the car ran fine for 3 days before going dead in the middle of driving and left me stranded in an intersection. Had to get it towed back to midas where it was more accurately diagnosed that the issue with the relay was being caused by a faulty rear electrical center. Both of these parts have been recalled, and I have only owned this car for a little over a year. It has only around 40,000 miles on it. Despite this recall, upon taking the car to the local Buick dealership, they stated they could not cover the recall due to it being expired before I even owned the car. I do not understand how it is right or fair for this to have to be paid out of pocket, for $183. 53 and $818. 81 respectively, when it is not my fault, it is a faulty gm parts issue, and gm stated they will not stand behind their product and cover the recall despite the evident risk to my safety if I was to continue driving the car without repair. I understand it is expired, but I fail to see how this is ethical when the part is still faulty to the point of being dangerous.

Vehicle shuts off due to fuel pump relay connection problem which is due to the back seat rubbing against the fuse box.

12 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 02/21/2024

Several malfunction indicator lights in dash appeared suddenly. Car would not start after shutting off. Finally started and drove to repair shop. Diagnosed as faulty ride height sensor. Shop searched for part at several dealers and online and found the part was discontinued in 2021. I contacted Buick and was offered $1500 off on a new gm car. I have not received any suggestions on how to repair the car or remove malfunction indicator lights which I specifically asked for. The repair shop is waiting for me to find the part and I have not been able to find one. Dealers have no answer and neither does Buick. The repair shop says it will start if sensor is unplugged but suspension will not work and dash will still have malfunction indicator lights. It is my opinion to operate under these conditions, it would definitely be hazardous.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 01/20/2024

Our Buick Lucerne would crank but wouldn't turn over when trying to start after trying to pick up take out. 1) it was suggested to me by a passerby that it sounds like a fuel pump relay. 2)I started to smell something burning. The passerby who happens to be familiar with Buick Lucerne tried to help. He lifted the back seat and showed me the fuel pump relay which was burned. Then he switched the electrick window relay which is the exact same relay switch and the car started. Went immediately to an autozone and bought spare fuel pump relay. Thought that solve the problem, but every 2 to 3 days I'd smell that burning smell. 3) the mechanic I've been going to for 10 years confirmed the issue 4)have not taken to dealer or insurance rep 5)absolutely no visual warning on dashboard. The warning happens when I start smelling the burning odor. Started one and a half months ago. . . .

14 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Buick Lucerne

Rear fuse block, fuel pump relay, gets hot and melts. Apparently due to seat latch pushing against fuse block cover. Smoked, but not fire.

15 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 12/20/2023

Fuel pump relay fuse is getting burnt up and not allowing car to start. This is a known problem and NHTSA has already made a recall but mine isn’t recalled. You would think since mine is a 2008-2011 Buick Lucerne it would be able to get fixed. Https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2021/mc-10194133-9999. Pdf.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 10/08/2023

Vehicle refused to start. No warning light illuminated on dash. Checked fuel pump relay and it was burned. Replaced and it keeps burning and getting extremely hot. Relay has been replaced x4. Fuse box is starting to melt. Wiring to fuel pump is free of any corrosion on wiring/prongs. Interior starts to smell of heavy smoke increasing the risk of a fire in the rear seats.

17 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 09/12/2023

I went to start the vehicle and it failed to start. I found the fuel pump relay to be badly burned ??. On the 30 pin. The board was melted at the 30 pin spot for the fuel pump relay. I purchased a new relay from napa. I questioned whether they had a new replacement fuel pump. They told me it was not available only through the dealership. My concern was that where the relay was located at there was a possibility of a fire given how badly the relay and board was burned. I replaced the relay and purchased an extra incase this might happen again. To my surprise it happen just days later while I was driving on the expressway. I had to get off the road immediately. Engine died, no power steering. I checked the relay, it was smoking hot. I will have to have the problem resolved. There is no way a relay should ever get hot, let alone that hot. The fuel pump fuse was not effected. Why is the relay not protected from getting so hot. There is definitely a real risk of fire. No one sits in the back seat normally. But, my grandson's. This should not ever happen.

18 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

The transmission started not shifting as I was driving down the road and the relay fuse box caught on fire and I think it’s where the back seat lays on top of the fuse box which rubs the fuses. Which is dangerous bc it catches on fire and could blow the car up while driving.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 02/02/2023

The fuse box or fuse holder under the back seat had the fuel pump relay fail due to pressure on the fuse box lid from the seat above it. This is a known issue by Buick as they keep the fuse box in stock (for about $300) I have owned two similar Lucernes with this issue. The fuel pump relay caused enough heat to melt into the fuse box, causing a disconnection. This caused the fuel pump to stop pumping, causing the car to stop running. The problem can be confirmed by calling any Buick dealer. I'm sure they have had several examples of this issue besides my pair. There are many examples mentioned on the internet, as well as videos as to how to fix it. There are no warning lamps prior to the failure. The engine dies and refuses to restart.

26 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 02/02/2023

The fuse box under the back seat has been having issues of burning for the fuel pump relay. It then in turn shorts out the fuse box which keeps needing to be replaced. This is a safety issue as it it catch fire under the back seat.

27 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 12/12/2022

The rear fuse box burned out the fule pump relay because of the metal hooks for the seat hit it and pop the fuse out causing it to ark and burn out. I had to have the fule pump replaced twice as that what I was told at auto shops. Going on line was the only reason I found out about the fuse box. After my car died and wouldnt start, opened the casing and sure enough the fule pump housing was completely burned. So now after replacing two fule pumps my emergency money is gone and who knows how long it will before am able to buy a 400$ fuse box with probably another couple hundred in labor to change it out. All because there was to much metal on the seat hooks.

28 Electrical System problem of the 2007 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 10/21/2022

When I am driving my vehicle will just stall. If I do not let my car run for at least 5-10 minutes before I go anywhere it will stall out on me not long after. It has stalled on the highway, even a few times with my 6 year old in the vehicle. After it stalls out a lot of times I have to park it, turn it off, open my door/shut it, then wait for the inside light go out before I try to start it back up. It does start back up after I let the light go out but not everytime. I have sat there for 30 minutes to an hour more than 3 times. Now I do not have control of any of the master controls for the windows or locks. I have to lock my door manually now. I was told that it could be from my ignition switch which I know there was a recall on before. I would like another recall for this issue and for it to be fixed before something not so good happens.

29 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

30 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 10/13/2022

The contact owns a 2011 Buick Lucerne. The contact stated that after several attempts the vehicle failed to start-up without warning. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to the circuit board which was in the rear back seat. The contact stated that the rear seat latches had rubbed against the circuit box, causing the circuit to overheat. The circuit board was replaced. The contact then stated that upon entering his vehicle while in a parking lot, blueish colored smoke was coming from the vehicle. The contact removed the back seat and saw that the circuit board had started melting. The police were first called to the scene and the fire department then arrived and was able to extinguish the smoke before the circuit board caught on fire. Neither a police report nor a fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it remained. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and a case was filed. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 198,000.

31 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 09/13/2022

My power steering went out so my mechanic checked it out and said my pump went out so I bought a new power steering pump and pulley had it put on and that didn't fix the problem. The next day I went out of town to visit family and my car caught on fire due to the power steering fluid leaked all out on the motor and got hot enough to catch on fire. Then my ignition stoped going all the way in park so I would have to disconect my battery cables so that it wouldn't run my battery down. The car wouldn't go all the way up in park making the ignition key wouldn't turn back far enough to shut my car off and lights.

32 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 04/20/2022

The fuel pump relay kept burning out. And caused the fuse box terminal heat damage. Almost started on fire and started smoking. Vehicle stalled out on the freeway and the dept of public safety towed my vehicle off the freeway.

33 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 03/18/2022

The crank shaft sensor went out and caused the steering and brakes to go out. It took out all communications with the car. I had had intermittent problems with it as it went out, and it didn't throw a code showing what the problem was. (I took it to aamco once and goodyear twice before they could identify the problem. ) (some Buick dealers do not work on cars over 10 years, and some do not use off-market parts when gm has chosen to stop making replacement parts, such as the rack and pinion/steering gear. Their goal is to sell cars, not maintain. ) at 150,000+ miles, sensors go out, and I expect to replace them. What I don't expect is deliberate design that will cause the vehicle to be or cause damage(d). This is a design flaw by gm and I wonder how many mystery crashes can be related to this.

34 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 02/09/2022

Fuse box melted.

35 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 01/24/2022

Fuel pump relay under vehicles back seat fried out due to the back seat hitting the fuse box cover and grounding out the fuel pump relay. My child was in the back seat and said there was smoke coming from the back seat and the fuse box nearly caught on fire. After reading online I am appalled that this has not been recalled yet. There was 0 warning, no lights on dash, I did not file a police report or do anything with my insurance as there was no accident. Just a car bomb manufactured by gm.
