1 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 04/23/2021

When I first bought the car over a year ago there were 3 different occasions that my car would not start so I contacted the dealership that I bought it from and they explained to me that it was a reoccurring problem with that model for the fuel pump relay to go out and after a couple times of it going out it would ultimately fry the fuse and relay block and it would need to be replaced so that is what they did at the dealership and within they year that I have owned it I have replaced the fuel pump relay 3 times and driving to the parts store last week the car just died in the middle of the street and has not started since. I was told it was due to the hinge on the seat rubbing the side of the fuse and relay box specifically the fuel pump relay that is the cause of the fuse and relay block to short out.

4 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2010 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

Car would not start. Noticed a burning smell. While researching problems found a thread on common issues with this car. Turns out the is an issue with the fuel relay. Checked the box sure enough the relay melted. This was under my sons car seat!!!! if this is a known issue why was this not reviewed and recalled. Does someone have to be injured or even die? how horrible is it that a known issue is not addressed. After the relay was discovered I also discover the fuse box has some indentations. These are from the seat clamp.

6 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 03/12/2019

Car wouldn't start checked fuse panel and fuel pump relay terminal is melted upon further research this is a common occurrence in the 2008-2011 Buick Lucerne models caused by the panel being directly under the rear seat bracket. Bracket applies pressure to panel lid which intern pushes and applies pressure to fuel pump relay gm recommends replacing relay with low profile style relay and cutting seat brackets. If this is such a know issue and gm recommends these modifications why is this not a safety recall? if the terminal is melting and burning like that this could cause a fire directly under a foam seat in the rear of a car and in my case directly under my children's car seats!!!!!!!!! I have to replace the entire fuse panel due to the melted contacts with estimate repair costs of over $300 for something that could be prevented by gm doing the right thing and fixing their problem!.

10 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

My 2009 Buick Lucerne would not start in my driveway on the morning of June 8, 2019. The mileage of the vehicle is 109466. The engine would crack but not start. I found that the relay for the fuel pump was burnt which is located under the rear seat in a fuse box. This was replaced and the vehicle started again and ran. That evening after driving approximately 160 miies, the vehicle shut off while traveling at a speed of 45 miles per hour. I lost all power functions of the vehicle but was able to avoid having an accident while pulling off the road. At the time my wife was in the front passenger seat and my mother was in the rear seat behind my wife. The fuse box is located under the rear seat behind the driver. As long as we owned this vehicle nobody has sat behind the driver as I'm 6'3" tall. The vehicle was towed to countryside auto group located at n8167 kellom rd. Beaver dam, WI 53916. The service department there replaced the fuse box, replaced the relay with a low profile relay, and trimmed the metal seat brackets so it would not push down on the fuse box. The technician stated that from the weight of people sitting on the seat put pressure on the box which caused the relay to short out and fail. The repair cost $647. 79 after researching this problem I found out this is an issue with the 2009 Buick Lucerne as there is a service bulletin #15-na-051. It clearly shows how to correct this problem. My concern is the safety issue related to this problem is you lose complete power function of the vehicle which could happen at anytime. There should be a safety recall for this problem no matter what the mileage of the vehicle is at time of failure. I will include a pic of the burnt relay. I was not returned the melted fuse box.

The fuse was replaced but later is was discovered that the fuse and fuse box had melted. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage 90,000. Jft.

14 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 07/02/2017

Fuel pump relay burns out and is so hot to the touch it will burn your hand. Was found when the car would not start. Has happened twice now, a week apart, and on the second occurrence the fuel pump was replaced by the mechanic to rule out a possible short causing the issue. The relay is still getting hot so much so that the seat gets hot and I fear it will catch on fire. The mechanic is going to look at the fuse block to see if there is corrosion or damaged wiring causing the issue. The relay was hot when the car was running, and just hadn't cooled by the time it was found. This speaks for how hot it was getting as it burned the mechanic when it had been sitting a few minutes. It does cool down after a while so it is not heating up while stationary.

15 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 09/23/2016

Fuel pump relay burned out 3 times in less than a month, and the car would not start, causing the fuse block to burn. The first time, the vehicle was parked in the garage, and wouldnt start one morning, causing me to have to call off work. The next time, vehicle was in motion, on a city street, on my way to work one morning, and the power steering and acceleration died, causing me to have no control of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2009 Buick Lucerne. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start after the ignition was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but failed to remedy the vehicle. The contact had to replace a relay switch for the fuel pump and two weeks later the failure reoccurred. Furthermore, the contact stated that the rear seat on the driver's side would get extremely hot. The contact was concerned that the failure could cause a fire. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuse box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 99,600.

17 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 12/29/2015

Vehicle was stationary in driveway. Vehicle would not start. It had worked fine the day prior. The vehicle was cranking and clearly had power but would not turn over. I noticed that I could not hear the fuel pump prime when the key was turned. Like many others, I found the fuel pump relay to be charred like it had been burning. The fuse block was also melted at pin 30. This is such a fire hazard being under the back seat, dealing with the fuel pump, and overheating like it does. It seems to be a commonly reported problem and I cannot believe there has not been a recall. Currently waiting on parts to replace the melted fuse block and the relay.

18 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 11/12/2015

Driving down the road the car quits and cranks but no start. Found fuse box at fuel pump relay melted together. Cleaned terminals and replaced relay drove car 20 miles to have it do it again. Fuse box get hot and it is located under rear passenger seat next to battery. I have read where other people with same year, make and model having the same problem and around the 70,000-80,000 mileage. I feel that it is a safety problem in both accidents and fire.

19 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 10/25/2015

Came out from work and car would not start but would try to turn over. Got car towed to mechanic shop to get fixed. They found that the fuse box under the back seat was melted. They stated that this has been common in Buick Lucerne models but that there hasn't been a recall. I don't understand why no recall when many people have experienced same exact problem.

20 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 10/22/2015

Vehicle would not start in the garage. Had it towed to a local garage where the diagnosis was failed fuel pump relay. Fuel pump relay overheated and melted the fuse block. The 20 amp fuse for the fuel pump relay did not fail. A visual inspection of the relay shows an internal burn mark between pins 85 & 86. Since this block is under the rear seat, on which my grandchildren our strapped in I am concerned about the chances of fire. As far as I can tell their is no recall, but a quick search of the internet indicates an ongoing problem.

21 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 06/27/2015

The contact owns a 2008 Buick Lucerne. After the vehicle was driven for approximately 100 miles, the contact parked the vehicle. The VIN was unavailable.

22 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

6/2/15 vehicle would not start, full power and crank but would not engage. Car towed to Buick dealer where I purchased car. Ck ecm codes - none ck ign and fuel system - no fuel pressure - ck fuel deliver system found fuel pump failure. Replaced fuel module assembly. $624. 00. 6/08/15 vehicle wouldn't start. Pulled relay for fuel pump and put it back in and it started. I drove it back to the dealership. They checked fuel pump relay, found rear fuse panel damaged due to poor connection at fuel pump relay. Replaced rear fuse block. Cost $291. 00. After doing some research problem seems common and stems from an obvious problem with these fuse boxes. Read there was a national backorder on these fuse boxes at one point. Sounds like this should of been a recall and replaced for free.

23 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 04/28/2015

Engine fails to start. After research online, checked fuel pump relay fuse and sure enough relay blown and had melted to fuse block at one pin on relay. Replaced fuse and car started and ran like nothing was ever wrong. Within a week the same thing happened only this time the car would not start after replacing the fuel pump relay. Had car towed to Buick dealer. They replaced the complete fuse block that contains the fuel pump relay which is located under the rear car seat. Cost about $840. 00 total ( $40. 00 for the 2 fuel pump relays; $75. 00 for the towing and the rest was dealer charge to replace fuse block). Asked them if they found what was causing this and they said everything checked ok after replacing fuse block. Have not had any more issues so far although it has only been a couple weeks but would think something has to be causing too much amperage to be drawn to have caused this. Don't know if fuel pump can cause too much amperage draw. Again, dealer said nothing showed up after replacing fuse block.

24 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2009 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 02/01/2015

While driving in petoskey the car started to miss an backfireing then the motor stop running. I couldn't stop or steer the car. After I got the car finely stopped the car wouldn't start up an I could smell like wire burning. I had the car delivered to an auto shop brown motors in harbor springs mi. After the diagnos they found that the fuse block under the rear seat was burned up at the fuel pump fuse, an was on fire at one time. . The fuse block was beyond fixing an needed a new one installed. There was a recall on the ignition switch, but this isn't what is wrong with these cars, I don' believe that the ignition switch on there recall are what is wrong, I believe that the fuse block is what wrong with there recalls when the fuse shorts out the fuel pump stops an so does the car motor. Strange that the car dealers for some reason has them in stock, there should be a recall on all car with this type of fuse box, this is what causing these car to stop running an get in a accidents. To day I got lucky.

25 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2010 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 12/16/2014

Had car towed to dealership on 12/17/14. Car not starting and stalling. Had battery replaced and next day car would not start again. Stalled and making noise under hood and in rear by battery. Took back to dealership and they stated could not replicate problem therefore no solution to be found. Told car was ready after waiting approx. 4 hrs. For them to try and replicate car shutting down. It just kept turning over. Car once again shut off and would not start. Left car and they told me fuel pump module was melted and needed replacement. Also rear fuse block was melted and terminals in fuse block connectors overheated/spread apart. Replaced fuel pump module and rear fuse block and repaired wiring in fuse block connector. This is a rather serious problem on a 2010 with approx. 47,800 miles. Very dangerous for it could have caused a crash or fire in the car.

26 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

When ready to leave work the vehicle would not start. Determined the fuel pump was not operating. Replaced the fuel pump and the vehicle still would not start. I found the fuel pump relay was the ultimate cause of failure. After replacing this relay two other times I decided to look further into the cause. I dismantled the fuse box to find it was not complete inside. The fuse box is filled with female to female couplers to connect the bottom wiring harness to the fuses. The fuel pump relay should have four of the couplers installed in the fuse box. There are only three installed. The male pins are long enough to touch and make contact. They will eventually overheat. This is a manufacturing defect and a fire hazard; as many people have had the issue. Buick still has not issued a safety recall and refuses to actually investigate the reason this is happening. The average consumer is being hit wit a $400. 00 fuse box and $600. 00 fuel pump replacement. I actually have since installed my original fuel pump. The replacement pump did not have a sending unit for the fuel gauge. Why are the dealers replacing probably perfectly fine fuel pumps. This has become a racket.

27 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

Car would not start, and the fuel relay fuse had blown, damaging the fuse box. Fuse was replaced and on Dec 4, 2013 the car would not start again. New fuse block had to be installed. Mechanic's diagnoses said the fuel pump was not receiving good voltage at time, further inspection and testing showed under the rear seal left side fuse block is receiving good voltage but sending a low voltage signal to the fuel pump. Further investigation shows a burnt and melted high resistance connection at the fuel pump relay. Normally, I understand the fuse next to the relay should have blown. Problem seems to stem with the fuse box and there was only one available in the united states on 12/4/2013 which I got. My mechanic was told they are on national backorder and it could take up to 6 months to receive one. So there is an obvious problem with these fuse boxes.

28 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2008 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 06/30/2012

Purchased vehicle 4/2/12. 6/30/12 car would not start. Full power and crank but would not engage. Car towed and diagnosed as fuel pump/relay. The relay was melted. Repaired without incident. July 23,2012 car repeated. No start. Car towed again and relay is melted again. Researching it seems to be a common event occurring in 2008 v8. Mechanic has determined it to be an electrical problem stemming from fuse and amps being delivered to relay.

29 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2006 Buick Lucerne

Failure Date: 09/12/2010

2006 Buick Lucerne, traveling 70 mph on the freeway, engine stops, dash gives reduced engine power check throttle and then gives a check traction control warnings, no power steering or brakes. Engine will not restart until battery has been disconnected to reset system, problem appears to be caused by a grounding problem or high resistance connection some where. No error codes stored. Car has done this so many times I do not feel safe driving it.
