The contact owns a 2006 Buick Lucerne. While driving at approximately 20 mph, an abnormal grinding sound was heard. The contact discovered that the power steering fluid was empty. The contact refilled the fluid for the power steering but the failure recurred. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering hose was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 06v105000 (steering). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
When backing out of the driveway or when making turns a winding noise would occur. Checked the power steering fluid and noted it was low. Added power steering fluid and the winding noise went away. A week later the was difficult to steer and hard to make turns. More power steering fluid was added and upon further investigation it was noted a power steering fluid leak at the hose connector near the clamp and when the steering wheel was turned the fluid would leak out. I recently, gave this car to my son and I would be devastated if anything were to happen to him. He stated that the car started making this loud winding noise and it was hard for him to steer the car. I was made aware of the power steering recall for this make, year and model and had not received a recall. My concern is, is my VIN# included in this recall? and if so what should we do?.
When bringing the car in for grinding brakes, my mechanic informed me that my rack and pinion was leaking and my rear struts were broken and leaking. (this was later confirmed with a Buick dealership). I was informed that my car would not be able to pass my yearly inspection without the rack and pinion repair. I was also informed that the repair would be quite costly. I was stunned since I have had nothing but complaints and repairs with this car which I am still paying for, the last past two and a half years respectively. I only have the car for four years. I feel the car is too young to have so many issues especially something as serious as a rack and pinion repair needed. This is a safety issue. I cannot drive the car like this except locally and I have to watch the power steering fluid which I have been doing. I also cannot drive it now since my inspection is expired. I do not have the money to pay for this right now and I have had exhaustive issues with this car. I approached Buick and they are not receptive. The car is no longer in warranty.

Car made a whirring sound when turning. Took it to the dealership and they said that I need rack and pinion replaced. There was a TSB for fluid leak from steering gear line connection which I did not know about - therefore my power steering fluid was almost empty. I am a senior citizen and think I should have been contacted about the TSB. This is a safety issue if it affects the steering and I believe the dealership should be responsible. Also when I was at the dealership on Monday another man was told he needed to have rack and pinion replaced on his Buick - isn't that curious.

A puddle appeared in the driveway where the 2006 Buick Lucerne is parked. The puddle looked like power steering fluid and after getting under the car, a power steering leak was detected. I searched on the NHTSA website and found that there was a recall on the 2006 Buick Lucerne with a v8 engine which said that the power steering hose connectors were improperly installed which would cause a leak. I called Buick about this and they said that my car was not part of this recall even though it meets the year, make, and model requirements and has the exact same problem the recall is for.
