Cadillac CTS owners have reported 146 problems related to service brakes (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Cadillac CTS based on all problems reported for the CTS.
Brakes failed. This happened at low speed and control was kept of the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was seen the flexible brake line connecting the driver's side brake caliper had separated at the point it transitions from rubber to metal. It happened immediately after turning right at a stop light and there was no warning. The design of the transition meant that there was no leak of fluid (warning) until the connection had corroded to the point it lost its strength, failed and completely detached. The local gm dealership was called and they advised there was no recall and would only work on the vehicle for payment, so it was not taken to them. The components were replaced on both sides. Old parts have been kept.

The all wheel drive link is not working. This causes the stabilitrac and abs to go out leaving only rear wheel drive. With very little weight in the rear of the car, it is very difficult to drive in snow or rain conditions as the car slides very easily. This is the 2nd time it's happened.

The contact owns a 2005 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake warning light would appear on the instrument panel as an abnormal, hissing sound would emit from the brake pedal upon depression. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic where brake fluid was replenished once it was discovered to be empty. Despite the repair, the failure persisted. After the contact's third visit to the mechanic, the mechanic discovered severe corrosion along the vehicle's brake line which resulted in a brake fluid leak. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 15v225000(service brakes, hydraulics) which the mechanic linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 158,000.

Severe and sudden malfunction of the abs/stabilitrak system at 45mph causing loss of directional control of the vehicle. Failure caused by disintegration/cracking of abs/hub reluctor rings, feeding incorrect wheel speeds to stability system. This failure caused a total loss of power, vehicle veering right despite full left steering input, abs activation continuously (increasing stopping distance). Vehicle exited road due to loss of control.
The contact owns a 2015 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, there was a loud grinding and squeaking sounds coming from the vehicle. Additionally, there was a high-pitched sound coming from the vehicle. The contact also stated that the water pump was inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced, and the rear differential was leaking. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The water pump was replaced under the warranty. The contact stated that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced every two months. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

I was pulled over by the police because my 2008 Cadillac Cts license plate lights were not working and my rear brake lights were not working. These light failures were caused by a known design flaw with the wiring harness in the trunk lid near the right trunk lid hinge in where the wires inside the harness that go to the brake lights break in half after repeated opening and closing of the trunk lid because of the poor design of the wiring harness and it’s mounting brackets. There should have been a safety recall from gm as I could have been killed if a car in back of me did not stop because my brake lights were not going on when I would step on my cars brake peddle! now the car dealership service center wants to charge me $335. 00 to replace the broken wires that were caused by gm/Cadillac’s poor and unsafe design of this wiring harness. Regards jerry kopec.

The vacuum pump failed and caused catastrophic engine failure. The vacuum pump was constructed with substandard design and the composition of the parts within the vacuum pumps internal components. The vacuum pump is an integral part of the emissions system, the braking system and the engine. This is not an isolated incident as the replacement vacuum pump, even if replaced, will fail again. The pump should have been designed with a shear pin so the engine camshaft would not have been destroyed.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? brakes , emergency brake , engine overheating , how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? car shut off in the highway while I was with my kids has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes it went in the shop 05/12/22 but problem with car still continued has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes I dont know how it passed due to emergency brake and engine & brakes were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes first engie light came on then car shut off.
The contact owns a 2011 Cadillac Cts. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 -35 mph, there was a rattling noise detected from the front end of the vehicle. During normal driving, my service stibilatrak light comes on. While the message is on, the tcs kicks in and it grabs the wheel and stops the car. I've been reared ended once and two barely missed collisions. When the tcs activates, it stops the car completely and the only way to drive the car is to turn it off for a few second and then restart it. That resets the computer and turn the message light off. The tcs or abs does not come on in the dash, just the stilibatrak message in the message center. Once it's turned off, it does not come on until the next time the tcs activates. I've had several diagnostic tests to check the problem or get a code but there is no code. I've been told that the car is clear of codes. The dealer cannot find a code or the problem. I've spent several hundred dollars on trying to locate the problem. The car, as is, is a death trap. I can't drive it because I don't know when the traction will kick on. I've taken good care of my car, nice bodywork and low milage but it's not safe to drive and no one knows how to fix it, including the dealer. At $200 an hour to try to find the problem is unforeseeable financially on my pension. One option is to junk the car for $200. I can't donate or sale it because it will not pass MD inspection. I can't trade it; I can't afford another car note. I've had this issue for almost a year. This happens every time I drive it, so I had to buy another car which I was not ready to buy. No major damage to report.
Everything was really grate no problems. My brakes sounds like there is lots of air coming from somewhere. My key ignition sometimes want turn over or easy to come out. Than the car started running hot. I've had it looked at few times and can't seem to fix the problem. I've even brought a new coolant box or another name for it. . So now I can't drive it because my fluids keep coming out of the coolant tank please help me I don't know what to do. To complete this message I've even had a smog twice nonpassable. - thank you any questions 5312296687 call/ text.

There have been a collection of other VIN numbers for this year make and model for the symptoms I have been experiencing since taking ownership in 2019. The vehicle will stall while running and randomly disable all wheel drive, traction control, abs, and send check engine light on causing me amdy son on infinite number of times to almost be hit in the middle of amd intersection, after a stop sign at low speeds, upon turning the wheels into or put of driveway, parking spaces and worst off at 60 mph on a freeway. This has resulted in multiple near accidents as the vehicle randomly disables itself. It occurs mostly after pressing the brakes to shift gears and almost always causes the vehicle to become inoperable for over an hour where it sits as there is no option to disable awd or choose from fwd or rwd. It happens in manual mode (or called performance mode) as well as automatic mode and has been occurring for 5 and a half years. I have been charged an exorbitant amount for supposed repairs from. Dealers and mechanics who have claimed to fix it and I have severe autoimmune disease, a foot prosthetic, and a minor child I have to transport to and from. School in the car. My issue and warning lights and symptoms mirror the recall of the VIN numbers the manufacturer has performed the recall repair on exactly and yet I have been sent from dealers who refuse to check the part that's defective which is I believe the hydrolic brake rod to the brake petal. The bold needs to be simply retorqued to the proper torque to fix the problem as it was either assembled improperly torqued and or can loosen over time resulting in dangerous and immediate and unexpected complete loss of power to the vehicle allowing people to slam into you at any time. I have had it towed numerous times after these incidents. All features, climate control, locks, entertainment, windows and everything functions when this happens. I have replaced batteries, brakes, oil changes etc. Unresolved.
When im going forward or reversing the car automatically slams on park brake.
My car has moments where I have to slam hard on the. Rakes for it to stop. I thought it was my brakes but I had them changed and it still does it and flashes a sign that says no traction control. Also my left turn signal does not work on the inside as if there's a mechanical glitch. And I have a service aitbag code constantly.
When the car is in motion, turning slightly or sharply into a parking spot, approaching a stop sign or red light to make a left or right turn at low speeds, the brake pedal begins to lock up when pressing on it to stop. Upon looking into this problem, more other people have replaced the hub and ebcm several times and the issue was still recurring. Unfortunately, the fault or problem that created this unsafe condition is still unknown by gm.

When turning slowly into parking spaces the breaks go out and do not work causing the car to either hit or run up the curbing. This happens often enough that we are becoming scared to drive car. We have taken it to multiple dealers and they say they cannot fixt the issue.
I had adaptive cruise on, was at a stop light, so adaptive stopped, the truck in front of me moved because the light turned green, so to engage the cruise I gently gave it gas and I felt the cruise kick so I moved my foot and then the car lunged into the trailer hitch of the truck in front of me. I had no time to react, the crash warning did not flash nor did the braking assist engage. Luckily the guy I hit was not affected the hitch prevented damage to his truck but my car took all the damage. I was so shook that before I could apply brakes my car still was trying to move forward even though it had hit the hitch. This was on a highway just as it was merging to a street. I contacted Cadillac/gm and sent them pictures and 2 days later they called and said I had no case, they did not even send me to a dealer to check out the system by a professional.
While driving at a steady speed and for no apparent reason, the stability system engaged, I was unable to control vehicle, could not engage brakes, vehicle began losing power & stalled in freeway traffic. Lastly, the brakes vibrate and the car's valve cover gaskets are made of plastic which may leak & start a fire.
When driving in my normal seated position I find that transitioning from the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal can be uncomfortable at the least to almost dangerous. The left edge of the right foot almost always gets caught behind the right edge of the brake pedal. It would appear to me that the brake pedal is too close to the throttle pedal. Has this issue ever come up before? I've talked to others who have driven these models and the problem has been noticed. If the right foot is placed more to the right (more in line with the accelerator pedal|) it is not a problem. But isn't a normal position for me as I would assume for other drivers. I'm sure that shoe size or style would make a difference. But in a confined are like these cars have (the console seems wider to allow for the transmission position) that an allowance for more room between pedals should have been made. Dave.

On may 18th, 2018 I purchased a 2004 Cadillac Cts from top notch auto. The gas gauge, brakes, a/c, blinkers dash buttons all were not working. He said to bring it the next day and they would fix it all. I ran out of gas getting there the next day due to not having a working gas gauge. I spent the entire day there and they did nothing to fix the car. The next day the computer (ecm) went out on the car and the engine light came on saying the catalytic converter was bad. I took the car back and asked for my money back and they said no but would fix it and they had the car for over two weeks. They said everything was fixed but I noticed the car went from 176000 miles to 101000 miles (odometer rolled back). I asked about this and he said it was legal and necessary to fix the car. The day after getting it back the service engine light came on again and the car would not go over 20mph on the road. The codes read po121, po23 and this time it was the throttle body and wiring that were bad. The dealer would not pay for it. I paid $498 out of pocket and another 3 days without the car. I told him the brakes were still bad and the car barely stops and pulls hard to the right. On Friday June 22nd they told me to come in to get the cars VIN checked out for my registration and so they can look at the brakes. They said they brakes are fine (they are not) and he took my keys and would not return them until I signed documentation saying I would not complain or take him to court. It is now July 9th, 2018 and they will not give me my plates or registration and say I am stuck paying for this death trap of a car.

My wife has been complainting about the brakes don't stop the car sometimes. I drove it today and made a sharp right to enter in a parking spot and the car would not stop when applying the brakes. That scared the what ever out of me.
Pressed brake pedal, and it went to floor without stopping vehicle. Console read "check brake assist". Just pulling out of my parking area 2/15/2018. Cadillac recall # 10v105 - gm recall # 15149 issued 10/28/2010. Nat'l safety recall # 09149 - NHTSA campaign I. D. 15v225000. Cadillac refuses reimbursement $ 1449.
Went to pull into a parking spot, hit the brake, the car sped up hitting another parked car. I had a problem yesterday, put car in cruise control(50 mph) on the highway, went to brake to turn, cruise control would not disconnect, had to shut the system off manually. Similar periodic problems in the past.
Car has no breaks when first started it takes about 30 seconds after start for breaks to work this happens after car is parked overnight all the time.

The contact owns a 2011 Cadillac Cts. While driving 35 mph, the brakes malfunctioned. When the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop and rear ended another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was towed to an unknown location. Bentley Cadillac in florence, alabama 35630 was made aware of the crash and stated that an inspector would inspect the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that there was no recall for the brakes or the air bags. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
Not drivable.
The contact owns a 2008 Cadillac Cts. While driving various speeds, the stability system warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle failed to stop immediately when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to Cadillac of arlington (located at 2001 n collins st. Arlington, TX 76011, 877-880-5178) where it was diagnosed as needing new tires and brakes. The contact stated that all four tires and brakes were replaced, but the issue persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times for the same failures, but they failures could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.
Frozen front brakes after washing or driving in rain and parking overnight. Have to put car in gear and force front brakes to break loose. Rear wheels spin and front tires slid approx 1 foot before breaking loose. Loud thud and car leaps forward 1foot.
