36 Steering problem of the 2012 Cadillac Escalade

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

On the indicated date my wife and I were driving from dallas, TX to ann arbor, mi. My wife was driving and we were on I-44 approx. 20 miles south of rolla, mo. At highway speed we experienced sudden and repeated loss of electrical power and related power systems. This was evidenced by door locks repeatedly clicking on and off, navigation system failure, air conditioning failure, stabilitrack failure and lack of power steering. My wife was able to control the vehicle and after several calls to onstar and the use of our cell phones we were able to locate a dealer in rolla. We ¿limped into the dealer after experiencing several more adverse failure incidents. The dealer checked out the vehicle and could not identify the cause through running his diagnostics. He concluded that the battery was defective and replaced it allowing us to continue our trip. Unfortunately this exact same issue reoccurred on June 21, 2014 while driving at highway speeds in the dallas, TX area and again, twice, driving at approx. 40 mph in frisco, TX on June 23, 2014. The local dealer serviced the vehicle on those dates and replaced the negative battery cable. During the past several weeks I have had numerous conversations with gm customer care seeking assurances that this was a known problem and that the latest ¿fix was going to permanently correct this safety and reliability problem. Unfortunately, I have not been satisfied that this problem has been permanently fixed. I am concerned that we will have a re-occurrence of this problem in the future.

37 Steering problem of the 2007 Cadillac Escalade

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

We just wanted to alert you of a life threatening situation that occurred with our 2007 Cadillac Escalade esv, on Wednesday, July 17, 2013. I had just picked up my kids from swim practice and was pulling out of the parking lot when my steering wheel was completely disconnected from the wheels and had no ability to steer the car. . . It just freely spun around and around. Thankfully, I was able to stop the vehicle before hitting a tree and my kids and I were not injured, just very shaken. However, it was and still is very present in my mind what the outcome could have been had we been on the highway or going at a faster speed. Cadillac roadside was very helpful in getting the car towed to the dealership where we purchased the vehicle and have had all maintenance done in the past. After review of the vehicle I was told that they are really not sure what went wrong, as they had never seen anything like it. Apparently the whole front steering system is supposed to collapse in a head on collision, but for some reason it collapsed without warning or reason. Consequently, due to the steering wheel continuously spinning, it had ripped out all the power cords to the radio, air conditioning, power steering, stabilitrac, etc. The car was a disaster and at that point I had no trust in the car to ever drive it again. I had enjoyed my vehicle up to this point, but this has made me incredibly concerned about putting my family in another Cadillac vehicle.

42 Steering problem of the 2003 Cadillac Escalade

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

Chrome lining of wheels has been peeling for years. When first appeared factory rep from Cadillac/gm inspected car and stated only cosmetic (car was still under warranty). My concern was that it would eventually go into the interface of the tire and wheel. I have complained to gm several occasions. It has. Has been brought back to dealer numerous times where it has been acknowledged to be a problem and that they had a fix. This fix was performed numerous times at dealer and other tire dealers, mr tire and goodyear. All of the tire dealers have knowledge of the issue right away. The issue in also noted many times on the internet. We can check pressure and load tires to specs go on a ride on highway and feel some loss of steering after a hundred miles. Then need to add pressure. This is a chronic issue with acute instances that has potential of creating an automobile accident especially at highway speeds. Dealer wants $1000. 00 per wheel to replace plus labor. Gm not interested in any financial help or acknowledgement, case # 71-1423629281 (January 13, 2015). They stated that they "have to follow company guidelines", that the "issue is tricky because I have called numerous times in the past but there is no recall", "the year of my vehicle precludes any fix", "our guidelines only cover up to 8 years" . . . . . . Please help. This is a known issue with a fix that does not last (and I have to pay for), and has the potential to cause loss of steering and an eventual accident.
