Wiper Problems of Cadillac Escalade

When the vehicle is shifted into reverse, the backup camera intermittently does not display an image. Instead, the screen shows a blue hourglass, leaving me without rear visibility while backing up. Gm has issued service bulletin 23-na-084 for the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, titled “blue hourglass and no gridlines on radio rear view camera display while in reverse. ” the bulletin identifies software anomalies in the video processing module and instructs dealers to reprogram the module. My concern is that this is a safety-related rear visibility failure, not merely a convenience or display issue. I also understand gm/NHTSA campaign 22v709 involved rear-view camera failures on other gm vehicles, including certain Cadillac xt5, Cadillac xt6, and GMC acadia models. Although my Escalade is not included in that recall, the safety consequence is similar: intermittent loss of rear-view camera visibility while reversing. The issue occurs intermittently when shifting into reverse. The vehicle has not been included in a recall for this condition. I respectfully request that NHTSA review whether the 2021 Cadillac Escalade should be included in an existing or expanded safety investigation/recall, or whether a separate defect investigation is warranted for intermittent rear-view camera failures in this model.

The night vision camera lens on my 2023 Cadillac Escalade esv cracked from what appears to be road debris during normal highway driving. No collision occurred. The crack — a star pattern consistent with a rock strike — was discovered during a service visit on December 1, 2025 (ro 502394, 37,314 miles). I was not aware of the failure prior to that visit, meaning the safety system may have been inoperative for an unknown period. The lens is positioned very low on the driver side grille with no protection — directly in the path of road debris at highway speeds. This placement of a standard glass lens on a safety-critical system appears to be a design defect. When reversing this huge SUV, there is no visibility. Currently, I have to keep pressing my brakes to get the red light to see little however it is not enough. I have taken it to the 2 different Cadillac Escalade dealership and they keep giving it back to me that it is working properly. This has been a problem since I bought this car, unfortunately when we went to test drive it was in a very bright parking lot. During the day it is fine, however if I reverse at night and god forbid hit someone/something - gm will be liable as this should not be on the road and they refuse the fix this big safety concern. Please note this is a 7 passenger SUV- it is too big to lack reverse visibility.

It is possible to accidentally hit the lock bottom of the key fob while the vehicle is moving and cause the mirrors to fold. This feature should be disabled at the very least while the vehicle is moving. While traveling on the freeway I accidentally pressed the keyfob while it was in my pocket and the the press caused the mirrors to fold in while I was traveling down the freeway.
