Steering Problems of Cadillac SRX - part 1

This vehicle has had an intermittent (for a few years) issue with all of the warning lights (abs,stabilitrak,parking brake,steering) coming on when starting. If you tried to drive it, you would have no power steering causing the vehicle difficult to handle. This would not happen every time it was started. We took the car to the local Cadillac dealership and were told nothing was wrong and it was just the system going through the electronic check system and to just not put it in gear until after the lights cleared. That actually did work sometimes. Recently, it came off and would never go off. We took it to a shop that does other work on other vehicles for me. He found that the electronic brake control module was bad. He tried to source a replacement one but found that it was discontinued with no alternate part. He did find a used one which we are waiting on to be delivered and then installed. My first concern is that if this happened when my wife was driving she could lose control of the vehicle causing an accident. My second concern is how can gm discontinue a known problem (I found multiple forums discussing this issue) part with no replacement. The vehicle is 10 years old with only 75k miles. I have read this has been an issue for quite a few years.

Case #: [xxx] ] I have a 2016 Cadillac Srx (VIN: [xxx] ) that I have owned for 8 years. Throughout this period, I have encountered some minor issues that were easily remedied. On [xxx], I started my car and some warning light came on. •the abs light •the power steering light •the anti-skid traction light I contacted scranton motors in vernon, CT and was told I had a faulty brake module: part number 20842710. Furthermore, I was told that this part number has been discontinued and no longer available. I contacted Cadillac customer care and spoke to customer service rep alegra 866-790-5600 at extension 5918222 and she gave me a list of suppliers who may have this part. Again, I was told that this part was discontinued. The parts department had to go to the aftermarket to see if they could locate this part. It was found on ebay. I was told that the part could be installed but there is no guarantee that it would work. I was left with no choice but to have the part installed knowing that I would be driving an unsafe vehicle that could malfunction at any time. As stated earlier this vehicle is about 8 years and what I do not understand is why Cadillac would stop production on such a critical part that could cause physical harm to its passengers. In doing some investigating I found the Cadillac forum in which other owners experience the same problem. I have owned 4 Cadillacs over the last 9 years and for the most part I have been very happy with their performance. It appears to me that Cadillac should take some responsibility and compensate me for not producing a safe vehicle to drive. The trade in value according to kelley blue. Book is $14,000 and therefore, I should be reimbursed accordingly on December 12, 2024, I received a phone call from scranton motors advising me that the part that they had received from ebay did not work. I purchased the Srx from massey Cadillac north of orlando, FL in August 2023. Two weeks ago I received an audio warning and the abs, traction control and brake warning lights illuminated. The power steering was also compromised and required more effort to control the car. I took the car to Cadillac service and was told gm had discontinued the affected computer part and there was nothing they could do to alleviate the problem. They told me to be careful especially in the rain (I live in florida where we get a lot of rain). I don’t think Cadillac should allow a vehicle with compromised safety features back on the road. I believe this condition could endanger a driver who might find themself in a situation where these safety features might prevent an accident or injury.

The contact owns a 2013 Cadillac Srx. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle out of the parking garage, the abs warning light illuminated, the steering wheel became stiff, and the vehicle was difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer who stated that the manufacturer no longer manufactured the part needed to repair the vehicle. My 2015 Cadillac Srx4 developed an issue with the electronic brake control module which produced the following dash light warnings, park brake, stabili track and power steering alert. I took it to thompson pontiac Cadillac in springfield mo. I was notified that the ecbm module was discontinued and they bought a remanufactured part from ebay. They informed me that the part did not fix all of the issues. I still have a power steering drive with care alert still illuminated. The dealership offered no other options for fixing the problem. I believe this is a very common problem with the Cadillac Srx. I believe that both of these issues should be considered a safety issue. There was a recall in this vehicle in 2022 it states the recall has been serviced for toe link, hub bearing, front strut and sway bar link. Well I put my car in the shop and had to replace same parts that had a recall that was serviced already! $1,886. 00 it cost me to have these services done again. Well the issue is back and it’s affecting the steering of my vehicle. I need to know what the next step is to have this resolved so I can make sure my vehicle is safe to drive.

This car was recalled for a power steering hose in 2010 yet just last week it blow a hole in the line cost over $500 to fix I've had muti car in the last 40 years and never had this happen some had over 325,000 miles I don't know if dealer still has part the recall was for the crimping of the hose for pressure line also my girlfriend had same type of problem on her 2008 impala hose failed.

The power steering system has leaked causing a fire I’ve checked all the hoses no leaks pumps intact.

My lights have conditions and when it rains one of my lights do not come on until it is dry. I have replaced two bulbs since 2020. Now my steering wheel warning light came on, I had steering wheel fluid put in, and it's still hard to turn, and the warning light is still coming on with stabilitrak warning light.

Squeaking noises in the front end sounds like rubbing also when you were at a stop and you turn the wheel from left to right sounds like a rubbing noise just purchased vehicle at the end of summer used started during the winter.

In Nov 2021 we had the recommended recall repairs done at a Cadillac dealership which replaced the rear toe links with a non-adjustable bar. 2 months later we installed new tires at big o tires but they were unable to perform a rear alignment due to the stationary toe bar. We went back to the Cadillac dealership days later but were assured the alignment was fine. Just over one year later (approx 15k miles driven) we have significant wear on our inner tires. Last week we had big o run an expressalign report and the rear tires have severe negative values. The value even with the toe bar should be +0. 020. I contacted hunter machine alignment and they confirmed our concerns. They said Cadillac solve this problem immediately. At this time Cadillac is only agreeing to inspecting the installation of the recall repair however this does not resolve the safety concerns with this vehicle. Why would a stationary bar be installed if the customer would not be able to get their wheels properly aligned? this recall repair seem to have increased the safety and reliability of this vehicle further. . My vehicle is not covered by the recall yet I had a faulty power steering pump hose which resulted in it spraying power steering fluid on my engine and eventually almost catching fire it finally broke and rendered the vehicle inoperable. All the heat and fluid damaged the pulley and caused the serpentine belt to fall off which driving.

The car needs an ebcm or ebtcm depending on which. Dealer I'm talking to. The stability control service and power steering are turned off and the anti-lock brakes are disabled. I have been to two dealerships and the part is on nationwide backorder and is not being manufactured. One dealer has 15 clients waiting for the part the other 14 they are not taking new orders. I was told my best bet was to trade the car in. The car is unsafe to drive. I think all 2010 to 2016 Srx's should be taken off the road, they are a danger to themselves and others.

The service stabilitrak system light came on. After consulting the service manual, the suggestion was to switch the car off and restart in a few seconds. That worked for a few weeks. After that the service stabilitrak light, the brake light and the parking brake light has remained lit. We have not been able to get an appointment yet to get this checked out because the dealership cannot guarantee that they can look at it the same day we bring it in. They need a week. We can't afford a rental car for a week.

The alternator keep going out! also power steering pump keep having leaks.

Received recall notice (#n212340980), contacted several dealers and all said the same thing: if you did not purchase the car here, then appointments are six weeks out! finally, went tremonte Cadillac as they were kind enough to take the car in sooner; brought the car there and within fifteen minutes I was told "you are all set", thanked him and left. On the way home the "service rear axle" message came back up again! being the weekend I did not contact the dealer. The next day the light came back on and the vehicle information center would not display. Contacted the dealer and they said to bring the car back. The fact that the dealer is 45mins away, my difficult work schedule and being told the car can be driven, you just lose the awd capability, I opted to wait till the fall. Also several attempts to contact Cadillac by phone, email and letters-with not one response! I am writing you at this time as we detected the car pulling to the right and loss of awd system. Had the recall corrected at auto gallery Chevrolet in commerce georgia in December they put new parts on and car wasn’t driving properly I returned it and they put the old parts on then it was driving better than before but it was eating the back tires off went through 2 sets of tires then took it back to dealership and they did alignment when returned it was roaring and still eating tires off the rear wife was driving yesterday evening and she said it started shaking and sliding.

The tow suspension recall was supposed to be fixed but auto gather lori Chevrolet in commerce georgia the first time they had vehicle for two weeks after replacing with new parts vehicle did not drive properly whatsoever so they put the old parts back on aligned and problem was better as of before the replacement parts but core adolf all the river on rear tires in less than two weeks took it back to the dealership they inform me that they aligned it after leaving dealership horrible roar and has adolf two more sets of tires in the rear end I’m unsure on how to correct the situation because the dealership is being bullies about the situation but the recall is not fixed vehicle is unsafe to drive.

I received a recall from gm as to the toe links in my vehicle. On November 4th it went into the dealership to have the parts replaced and the following morning my car lost control when something happened between the tires and the steering which caused my car to swerve all over the road, lose control, flip and go into a ditch. There were 3 warning lights on, abs, traction, and stabilitrak. The car has not yet been inspected but will be. Thank god it happened around 5:30 a. M. When there were not a lot of cars out yet on the highway.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the headlamps assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that while turning the steering wheel, there was a grinding noise coming from the steering wheel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.

I received a recall # n212340980. The dealership said there is no solution until gm gets parts. My son was driving car and almost had an accident on interstate. I want public knowledge that gm has not come up with the parts and almost killed my son by car going out of control.

The contact owns a 2013 Cadillac Srx. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel made an abnormal sound and then seized on two separate occasions during heavy rainfall. The contact had to forcefully turn the steering wheel while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the wheel bearing was replaced, however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the dealer replaced the driveshaft and the wheel bearing again. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that he would receive a callback. The failure mileage was approximately 127,000.

The contact owns 2009 Ford f-30 supercab. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced violate shaking without warning when accelerating past 50 mph the contact stated when driving over an object the failure occurs. The contact would have to released his foot off the accelerator in order for the vehicle to resumes back to normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering dapper needed to be replaced in order for the failure not to recur. The vehicle was not repaired the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

While driving on the highway my car suddenly went sideways five times. I had no control over my vehicle and luckily did not hit another vehicle. Once I was safely on the shoulder, I saw that my rear driverside wheel was sticking out. I had it towed to the dealership and then found out that there was a recall on the rear toe end link adjuster. They kept my car for weeks and kept sending me assessments of damage and assuring me it would be good as new when returned. After I declined their offer to fix my front struts for about $4,000 they said it was ready, but still needed to be aligned. I drove it home and immediately called bc it was not fixed and swayed dangerously on the road. They said bring it Monday (this was a Friday) it sat in my driveway then I noticed all the oil that leaked. I took it back (couple more weeks) they said oil changed (cost to them) leak caused by gasket not sealed properly. Also the washer fluid kept just pouring out and they had to fix that which they said was my fault but I'd never had trouble before. Then they said my car was ready and they had fixed the recall by making the adjuster non adjustable. My car still swayed all over the road and now makes a loud clanking noise in the front. After a month my rear tires both on the inside of the tire closest together are wore out showing wires. I paid for two used tired. Two weeks later it's happening again. Another shop checks the tires and is amazed that I made it to have him check the tires because the toe link but was so loose that my wheel was about to fall off again! he tightened the nut that is undoubtedly adjustable. My tires are now wearing out again and I've yet to receive any news on how to get the national recall fixed. No concern for safety at all.

Vehicle has a recall id. Recall 21v473. Advised by dealer for Cadillac not to drive or operate vehichle, however gm does not have parts to correct recall and as a consumer and only transportation it is a burden for me . I also have a loan on this vehicle that is current in payments and must make future payments on a vehicle that is unsafe to drive. I feel gm. Needs to get this vehicle repaired ASAP. Or purchase back atr the cost of my loan. Very upset and angry there is at this time no resolution by gm and no parts available .

There was a recall on the toe links, but the dealer did not follow procedures. The toe link was replaced during a recall, but the mechanic never aligned the wheels. This should be standard process and should come free after the recall takes place. They never get back to me after a service request.

On the interstate (I-74 in indiana) traveling at 70mph the rear toe link broke. My car swayed terribly back and forth and almost spun out completely. I was able to get it to a repair shop (not Cadillac) right off the highway. They said the rear toe link was broken and that caused the problem. When I called my local dealer Cadillac said back in 2015 (before I owned the vehicle) there was a recall and the toe links were "adjusted". Clearly the problem was not fixed. If there were any other cars even remotely close to me this could have had devastating consequences. The car is now in the shop (at some random shop in indiana) getting fixed but Cadillac has said they will not cover the repair cost. I do not have any documentation yet but will provide it once the car is fixed.

Gm safety recall n212340980. Nine (9) warnings are specifically listed within the recall letter; I have been experiencing 6 of 9 warning messages during an active driving session of this vehicle. In August 2021, visited cole GMC / Cadillac service location for an assessment of parts needed to repair safety items. Refused service request despite previously scheduled appt. Time; dealer required $100 fee to perform safety analysis despite safety recall letter / case. (08/27/2021) contacted gm safety hotline to determine next steps. Spoke with gm rep who indicated a solution would be communicated with 24-48 business hours. No response prior to 09/02/2021 - attempted follow-up call @ 3pm, :28 hold, gm call center rep could not reach anyone in recall department.

This vehicle needs a recall immediately as the issue can result in an accident or death to the driver/ passengers/ other drivers on the road. While driving this vehicle at any speed on both the highway and city streets, it abruptly shifts into another lane while driving straight and does not allow you to press on the brakes or move the steering wheel for a few seconds to gain control of the vehicle. A "service stability system" warning pops up on the screen directly afterwards and a loud warning sound constantly rings through the car until you stop the vehicle and turn it off for a few minutes. Driving the car again repeats the same problem. Research of the issue shows that many owners of this vehicle have the same issue and upon inspection at the mechanic, most are not given a solution. Some blogs say replacing the "steering wheel sensor" has solved their problem however I have replaced the sensor along with the entire steering power steering rack, brakes, tires, and several other parts and in a year I am still having the same problem every single time I drive. This is dangerous and the company needs to recall and investigate the issue before someone is seriously hurt.

The car is swaying back and forth at speeds above 50 mph on good roads. Had mechanic look at it and he said shocks were good and everything looked fine. After researching on internet I found that others had a problem with the rear toe link adjuster. So I looked at mine and found it loose but the nut has not backed off. I think it has rusted and is slipping in the threads. I can send a video showing how loose it is when I push it up and down. You need to see it as is because this is exactly what you are investigating.

A few months ago I started noticing a loud noise coming from the rear of my vehicle. Then my service traction control light, service stabilitrak light, service rear axle light, the stabilitrak malfunction indicator lamp all come on my display screen. I took my tires to have them rotated and the rear tires were unevenly worn I was told. The other thing that is happening is that my steering wheel does not stay going straight, it veers off to the right.

Once in awhile, while driving the Srx, it hesitant shifting causing rpm to rev higher than usual. When slowing down, once in awhile you feel a kick. Also I hear a slight whining noise when driving. Steering wheel turned all the way to the left or to the right, steering wheel does not turn back when going forward nor reverse, it stays turned.

While driving my Srx through downtown area, I was attempting to make a turn and it suddenly wouldn't steer in the direction I wanted it to and when I attempted to hit the brakes it dived directly into a brick wall and all four airbags deployed and car was declared as total loss.

Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Cadillac Srx. The contact stated while their wife was driving between 60-70 mph when a small noise came from the rear right of the vehicle as if wind was coming through a crack window. The noise began to increase in volume when suddenly the steering wheel violently jerked escaping the driver's hands. The vehicle than began to spin uncontrollably. The vehicle hit the guardrail when the vehicle began tospin agin. The vehicle eventually stopped but was smoking. The driver was removed from the vehicle. All air bags deployed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (dutton motor company 8201 auto dr, riverside, CA 92504; (951) 687-2020) who stated that the right rear tirod bolt fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was deemed totaled. The driver received neck, chest, and hip injuries. Medical attention was needed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. Gl.
