2003 Chevrolet Astro cargo van air bag did not deploy at time of collision. Astro van was hit on passenger side, front wheel well & bumper. Driver who hit van was exceeding speed limit, approximately doing closer to 40 mph in a 25 mph zone when they hit our van. We were just starting to proceed after a stop sign, barely doing 10 - 15 mph. The Astro van was dragged approximately 6-7 feet into the intersection. The air bag never deployed, driver was injured right side back & ribs bruised and possible concussion head injury to left side of head due to force of impact.

My wife was driving a 2004 chevy Astro van approx. 35-40 mph on a two-way street. Another driver from the opposite direction cut across into her lane and had a head-on collision. She suffered a broken wrist & bruised ribs. She had three of our children in their seats. They were shaken and had seatbelt bruises. The van was not drivable and was towed away. The police & the tow driver reported that the airbags did not deploy. We have some expectation that the airbags would have secondary role to minimize injuries. My compliant that the hard collision was sufficient to deploy safety equipment but did not work as designed. Was there a recall for airbag failures for this model of vehicle?.

I own a 1998 Astro van. I was involved in a head on collision . My air bags did not deploy, nor did my seat belts restrain me from hitting the steering wheel. My son was not restrained either. We both had injuries. Estimate cost of repairs 7-8,000. 00 worth the damage. There is severe frame damage that requires a sub frame to be replaced. I need to know if this is a ongoing problem with front end collisons that the air bags do not deploy, or does the seat belt not restrain you?.

Air bags did not deploy in a nearly head-on crash at an estimated speed of 60 mph. Relative speed may have been less, because vehicle which this van hit was sliding backwards in the same direction of travel as the van. However, closing speed had to be significant to cause it to be damaged beyond repair within its $13,000 value. Vehicle was a total loss. We have owned this vehicle since new, no modifications have been made to it, and it had never been in an accident before this. Digital photos of damaged vehicle are available if desired.
