My dashboard has been getting cracks in it for years and I am afraid that it will effect the airbag deployment if I ever have an accident. This is something that gm needs to address. Also I have had problems with the outside door handles breaking and coming off. As of this moment I will never buy another gm vehicle because they don't stand behind it.

I'm not exactly sure when it started, but it was fine this summer (I estimated 11/10/18 below). The dashboard has cracked in two spots - drivers side near instrument panel hump, and passenger side near airbag. The cracks are continuing to get larger and the dashboard has stated to vibrate and rattle. I am concerned about a safety hazard in an accident.

The dash is cracked in three spots, over the instrument panel, vent area and at the corner of the air bag.
Cracked dash on corner of passenger airbag and large cracks on dash in front of driver above cluster, broken dash connectors causing dash to flex and break.
Severe cracking of dash board. Nothing I did caused this. Poor material and design by gm is the only excuse.
The dashboard has several cracks and just recently, a chunk fell into the dashboard. If the airbag deploys, there are probably parts around it that will deploy into the passenger as well as the driver's face. Considering how brittle it is, it will probably shatter in the even of an accident, sending shards of plastic scattering throughout the interior as well.
Dash and instruments covers cracking.
Cracked dash. It has been replaced once by the dealer and failed after 3 years. Now it continues to crack at different locations. Dealer said 1 year warranty and $1200 to replace, again.

Dashboard is cracked in several places near the passenger airbag and instrument cluster. It may eventually crack enough that big pieces will pop loose and chunks of my dash will be gone. Abs glue is the only thing that works to join the seams together to stop the dash from shaking and making tons of noise. The shaking likely caused the cracks to grow more also prior to me finally through lots of trial and error successfully gluing it. Hopefully it will keep the current crack from growing. But only time will tell. And new ones will likely appear if the old ones do not spread. Also, the air vent cover has broken in a long crack, and even worse most of the tabs that hold it down have broken off. Thus, it sticks up looking ugly and rattles. This too is likely to break up more from all the rattling.
There is crack from the edge of the airbag across the dash to the defroster. I've researched this and discovered it could potentially send shrapnel if the airbags are deployed. I've contacted my dealership and they said it is not a covered part under the extended warranty. I've also contacted Chevrolet directly to see if they would fix this issue. I just heard back from them and they said they will not rectify the issue. I didn't witness the crack happening so I couldn't elaborate on whether the vehicle was in motion or just parked.
Dashboard cracked in many spots.
Possible dash fragments if airbag is deployed. Dash has pointed plastic fragments falling through dash around airbag area. Dash has many complete through cracks around airbag area. If airbag deploys sharp plastic fragments may be projected to passenger. Not only if metal fragments from airbag that may hit windshield and then towards passenger or gas pressure from igniter force plastic with possible metal that ultimately causes airbag to hit passenger.
Dash cracked all on top.
Cracked dashboard due to gm flaws.
Cracks started appearing on the corners of the airbag in the dash or over the instrument panel. I have contacted the dealer and gm directly with no luck just an estimate to fix. This issue is a defect in design and remains safety issue for all owner of these vehicles. If I would be in an accident, the broken dash pieces could impact the occupants and cause additional injurys.
Dash has cracked in 2 places near the passenger air bag and in one place above the instrument housing. Checking online forums identifies that this is a common issue with Chevrolet dashes. This creates a safety hazard in the event of a collision as these pieces could become projectiles. At this point Chevrolet is not offering to fix the issue.
Dash board cracking in 3 spots, near passengers air bag,and 2 spots by speaker.
Cracks in dash board at passenger side air bag and above the instrument cluster area and are getting bigger daily.
Dash board cracked in several places.
My truck is one of the many with the cracking of the dash in multiple places. This vehicle has been stored in a garage or in shaded areas most of its life and has the defective dash board that is falling apart. I am concerned that if a airbag ever has to deploy, this dash could cause shrapnel to either puncture the airbag or harm a passenger. I have asked gm dealership to replace and they quoted thousands for what appears to be a proven defect.
Dash has 2 cracks in it from the windshield to the instrument panel.
Dashboard cracking near airbag. Seems to be getting worse the more I drive.
Upper dash sections cracked by instrument area and above passenger air bag.
I purchased my 2013 chevy Avalanche less than a year ago. Based on the carfax report, I know it came from sunny/hot florida before I purchased it from a dealer in PA. Over this past winter however, we had an extreme cold spell (single digit temperatures for a couple weeks back to back). During this cold spell, my commute to work has me go over a couple sets of rain road tracks, and when I went over the tracks, a small crack up by the speaker became a huge crack almost overnight. Its continued to just further rip and rip at that hard plastic casing so that now my crack extends from the front dash vents to that speaker cover, and then from the other side of the speaker cover up towards the windshield. It rattles/vibrates terribly just going down the road, and when I go over the train tracks, it separates and have to 'pop it' back into place each time. Very upsetting on what was my 2013 black diamond edition 'dream truck'. :(.
Serious large cracks appearing in plastic dashboard, around airbag and instrument cluster above steering column.
I drive my truck on the weekends only and at least twice a year I have to replace cylinder #7 spark plug all of the time, also got the oil pressure switch and the filter replaced twice and I get a tapping sound at idle due to the low oil pressure reading on the dash, and it has happen right after an oil change, last but not lease the cracking of the dashboard.
The dashboard cover has cracks in the plastic.
The dash has cracked above the instrument panel, in an accident this could be a hazard. My vehicle has always been garage kept. I'm not sure when this happened, it has never been involved in an accident. This happened when my vehicle was stationary.
Takata recall ; cracked dash.
Takata recall has not been resolved. In addition the dash panel is cracked next to the passengers side airbag.
