Stabilty light came on, loss of power, check engine light, rough shifting into 2 gear. It has been down for 2 years. And not fixed yet, chevy dealership does not know what tpo do. There needs tobe a recall on the flex fuel. We were going down I-20 when all this happened. There was nearly an accident.
Active fuel management problem - oil passing the o-rings on the pistons which is causing the check engine light to come on and one cylinder out of the seven not working at all. It caused 2 new spark plugs to break.

Service stabilitrac system indication comes on, with check engine light, and engine power reduced. Happens randomly, cannot find a "common cause" spent lots of money on pcm, bcm, memory seat module, battery cables, battery, brake light switch, etc. Etc. Dangerous condition when vehicle drops into power reduction mode.
2002 chevy Avalanche 2500 with 8. 1 engine dies without warning at driving speeds. The battery light comes on, after the vehicle shuts down, but no check engine light and no warning whatsoever. The vehicle just shuts down. When this happens there is no power steering and no brakes for this 7000 pound vehicle. Sometimes, once pulled over and shutting everything off and trying to restart it will restart, sometimes taking up to 10 minutes of trying to crank it intermittently before it will restart. It has done this, off and on, at random intervals over the years I have owned it. I have read on the internet others from who have the same problem and most likely solution seems to be the crankshaft position sensor which some say has been recalled on the 2001 model engine for the silverados, but cannot find anything for the same 2002 engine, which is the same engine. This is dangerous and frightening enough at "back road" speeds, but considerably more so at major highway speeds as the vehicle loses all power when the engine shuts down, leaving the driver unable to steer, brake or immediately restart the vehicle leaving it stalled in the middle of the interstate there is no code in the ecm so the dealers have not been able to diagnose it. Does someone have to die before something is done?.

Immediately upon starting my truck, while in park, the dashboard indicated the vehicle was in reduced engine power mode and the check engine light came on and the stabilitrak was disabled. The truck would not accelerate properly and would only drive approximately 25 mph. This is the 5th time this has occurred on this vehicle. The dealership informed me that it is the accelerator pedal positioning sensor, which is the same issue it has had each of the previous 4 times time. It happened 7 times on my 2007 tahoe and each time it was the accelerator pedal positioning sensor (which is the reason we sold it). We are thankful that this time it occurred with the vehicle in park, this has happened in this truck on the highway and that was very dangerous!!.

I was driving on a bridge when the check engine light came on and the engine power reduced. The truck immediately dropped to below 30 mph and I could not accelerate up the bridge and barely avoiding an accident, as this was in a heavy traffic area. I was able to get it to the dealership and are working on it now. This if the fifth time this has happened to my truck. My wife and I just sold our 2007 Chevrolet tahoe and the only reason was the engine power reduced error occurred on it seven times, three in month prior to selling it. This is a major problem and could have easily resulted in a severe accident. Both cars were only ever serviced at Chevrolet dealerships and each time, they insisted it was fixed and the problem was gone. We have no faith in Chevrolet at this time!.
I was on vacation and had my Avalanche running while I packed it up to return home. After about 5 minutes of running idle, the check engine light came on and the display showed reduced engine power, service traction control, and service stabilitrak. This had happened to the truck three times before and each time they replaced the accelerator pedal positional sensor. (I also had a 2007 Chevrolet tahoe, and after having it repaired seven times for failing sensors and going into reduced engine power while on the highway three times we were forced to sell it). We are very familiar with this issue! however, I was able to locate a dealership in the area and they tested it to find that the throttle body was out, and they replaced the throttle body and the associated sensor. I was relieved to hear that this was a different issue than before and that my problems were fixed. This was not the case. Last week, the engine power reduced again and the truck is now in the shop for the fifth time.
Traveling at a normal rate and speed on a 5-lane highway. Vehicle loss power, engine lights activated. After maneuvering the vehicle off the highway, I shut the engine off. No signs of smoke or any leaks from engine (topside or underneath). I attempted to restart the vehicle and upon doing so the engine turned over and ran at a rough idle, clearly not on all 8 cylinders. I shut the engine off again. From that point on it was towed. The Chevrolet dealership (after 8 days and 449 miles later) then told me they could not find a problem. When they received the vehicle the original codes had been taken by a precision tune mechanic (nearest facility from location of break down) the dealership then informed me they could not duplicate the problem and was apologetic for any inconvenience. I received a bill for $103. 95 and my vehicle which had only a 1/8 of a tank of fuel. After a little research I found gm recall no:08048 consequence: may cause electrical features to malfunction. Thanks Chevrolet and Chevrolet service technicians for taking care of your customers. Unfortunately their dealerships and district specialist do not follow their own executive director of safety who is quoted on the gm website "we always want to make sure customers can count on the safety and quality of their gm vehicle. " says, [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The check engine light came on due to fault code p0499 which is a faulty emissions evap vent solenoid due to engineering design flaws.
Date of current incidents: 1/3/11; 1/4/11; 7/28/11; 8/23/11; 9/07/11; 12/9/11; 12/16/11; 6/4/12; 6/10/12 and 6/11/12 and 6/l7/12. The engine light comes on; engine reduce power light, stabilizer tract light comes on plus oil light and other lights. I have had it in the shop to try to figure out why my Avalanche keeps breaking down. And I was told that they can not find a problem. I was never informed that they have had probems with the wiring. In December 2011 my Avalanche shut itself off during a snow storm. Eventually, it started but because of reduced power it would only go between 35-45 miles per hour. I made it to a repair shop, they could not find a problem, but replaced sensors and/or relays. In June 2012 the lights came on, I could only go approx 35-40 miles per hour. Called and set up an appointment. On the way to the appointment the engine oil light came on and the car shut down. I had to call for a tow truck. I took it to a non dealer service repair shop, because they were the closest. When they looked the car over the wires were eaten. I was informed that the newer cars have a soy base in their wiring and that the rodents love to eat this product. Why are they using this soy based wiring? this is not safe. I can not have my vehicle break down leaving me stranded on the side of the road. It is getting very costly when parts are being replaced when it is the wiring that is faulty. I live in the country and I can not keep the mice out of my truck. Please look into why the car manufactures are using this product which is causing major safety and financial concerns why aren't the manufactures informing the public of this problem.
When taking off from a stop it feels like I am being bumped from behind, or like the engine just dropped out of the vehicle. Very hard shifting between 1st, 2nd and 3rd when vehicle has been driven about 50 miles consecutive. Check engine light is on but will go off intermittently.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle suddenly would not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the number 7 coil pack was defective. The mechanic replaced the number 7 coil pack and the number 7 spark plug to correct the defect. Additionally, the front passenger¿s side interior door handle would cause lacerations to the contact¿s hand when attempting to exit the vehicle. The contact also indicated that the dashboard was cracked and there were concerns of the air bags being compromised. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The failure mileage was 40,000.
