I am an owner of a 2013 chevy Avalanche and must say that I enjoy driving this vehicle. The problem that I have is the vehicle has been going into engine power reduced mode. This mode makes the vehicle hard to accelerate to highway speeds. The vehicle will have a code of p2128 or p2138 which is an accelator pedel ciruit problem. I changed the acceleator pedal and did not solve the problem. I changed out the throttle body sensor and still the problem remains. On the dashboard it will show check engine light on, service stablinktrac light on, and service traction control light on. I have seen other vehicle owners experience the same problems with their vehicles and told that there was no recall and have to pay for the repairs out of pocket. These are very well made vehicles but when they going into engine power reduced mode, drive ability is diminished.

Repeated instances of engine misfire/loss of power due to known issue with 5. 3l engines. Chevy/gm have repeatedly not fixed root cause/issues leading to "stabilitrac/traction control" error messages during engine misfire while driving in traffic. On 3 of these occasions loss power in roads/intersections with oncoming traffic. Two of these occasions, almost caused collisions. Currently truck at dealership since 4/11/22, with warranty company (extended warranty) and chevy dealership discussing mechanical issues with rings, pistons, lifters versus "carbon build up". Engine very low mileage per year. Total milage under 72k. Carbon is in all engines, failure root cause according to research and service department not related to carbon. In conversation with service manager, in past chevy service departments followed guidelines of "stick a plug and wire on it, and send it out". 3/19/16- 4/2/issues started. Reported to chevy performance issues. Did this on 2-3 occasions, air filter replaced one visit, told "without error messages, can not diagnose problem. " 31k mile 6/18/"stabilitrac/traction control" error messages. Engine misfires start. Diagnosis fouled #7 spark plug. Spark plug replaced. Service department verbal comment, "don't know cause, platinum plugs good to 100k, never seen this before"34k mile 2/21/"stabilitrac/traction control" error messages. Engine misfire in traffic. Diagnosis misfires with #7 spark plug. Service replaced valve cover with updated metal flap to stop oil from spraying on plug. Removed intake manifold/clean intake runners of oil deposits 7/31/#7 checked. No issues 53k 11/11/"stabilitrac/traction control" error messages. Engine misfire/ stall badly in traffic. Multiple misfires with #7 cylinder. Diagnosis:no issues found after error message reset. Truck perfect, passed inspection to purchase extended warranty from dealership 4/11/"stabilitrac/traction control"error messages. Engine misfire/stall in traffic. Engine failure.
I drove to work & parked my 2007 Avalanche in my employers truck garage as I do every day. I went into the office attended a job briefing & we put on our coveralls for work then we got ready to leave to go to the 1st jobsite but as soon as the 1st two coworkers walked out of the shop they turned around yelling that my truck was on fire. I didn't believe them at 1st because I had just parked like 15 minutes prior. Parked & not running. Well I looked and my whole engine compartment was full of flames. We used 4 fire extinguishers to put the fire out & the fire department arrived to finish. My vehicle was totalled & I only had liability insurance.
Purchased a used 2011 chevy Avalanche with 87,000 miles one owner from a small dealership. After having the vehicle for about a week noticed it shuddering when pulling any kind of grade. Thinking it was some kind of misfire had all the plugs changed only to find that it also had an oil file problem with 1 of the cylinders. When the vehicle would shudder it was around 1500-2000 rpms. If I would give it more gas it made it past the 2,000 rpms and would shift with no problems. Needless to say the transmission is now toast as it gave out completely and needs replaced. No warning lights of any kind made me aware of a potentially serious problem. After reading more I am seeing that the transmission is something that gm has not fully taken care of as stated with older models. The transmission failed while driving on a major interstate roadway while nearing the top of a hill. It just went completely into neutral and would just rev the engine. The truck was carrying 3 adults and 2 children in car seats when this occurred. Thankfully we were able to get to the shoulder of the road safely. Currently the truck has 89,995 miles on it. I only put approximately 2000 miles on it since purchase.

My wife drove the truck to walmart to get a couple of items with her were my son in law and daughter. Once arriving there(approx. 3 mi) they noticed some smoke coming from under the hood. My son in law opened the hood to discover a fire, he then ran into walmart where an employee grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. After they got home I checked it out and the wiring harness that goes to the mass air flow sensor was completely melted. It was still in all th he factory tie downs and wasn't touching anything that could have chafed it or pinched the wires. The truck was on city street then in parking lot.
Vehicle caught on fire, while parked in apartment parking lot, engine not running. Vehicle was parked for at least 30 minutes, before being notified that it was on fire.
Vehicle caught on fire and/or exploded while sitting in apartment parking lot. Vehicle was not running and had been sitting for at least 30 minutes to an 1hr. Was in bedroom, when notified by the fire dept. That the vehicle was on fire.
Drove to post office, it was normal till I made a u turn on city street then engine ran very rough and engine light came on blinking, plus service stabilitrak & service traction control also appear on dash. Drove home immediately as truck wont shift to high gear. Check code and it said p0307 cyclinder #7 misfired look up google to see if I can repaired it myself as read to replace plug, wire and coil for cyclinder #7 so I did it still same problem. Took to mechanic to test my truck and fail compression test. Mechanic talk to me as I bought the truck last year and still paying for it. Describe to me of what is possible so told him to fix it he say that there are about 2000 truck which have same problem I have.
Vehicle hit a tree and airbags did not deploy.

Stability control warning pops up on display, resulting in a severe power reduction. This causes the vehicle speed to drop from 70 mph to around 35mph instantly. This nearly resulted in a rear end collision, of course. This was only prevented by a very alert driver behind me. I read that this is a very common issue with gm vehicles yet nothing is being done by gm to provide a safety recall.
We were driving down i20 when we were coming off the off ramp and the stabilization light came on and we got to the stop sign to turn right and as were take off it shifted really bad out into 2nd it jerked really bad and we had no power we made it home and now it turns over but will not start. 2007 avalance it has 50,000 miles. I have been talking to other people on car gurus and there are thousand on that sight having the same problem were having. And the sad thing is we dont have the money to have our truck towed into town and get it fixed. Becasue they tells us that they have so many people having the same problem. I feel like gm should do a recall or people should be able to do a group lawsuit toward gm for such a big deal like this is. And also our dashes are all cracked down the middle. Which on that sight there are alot having same issue.
Tl the contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle lost power and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle restarted after several attempts, but the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. A local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.
. Want my airbags to work if I need them. Recovered a letter in mail today 10/31/2017.

Engine runs rough at idle when engine light, service stabilitrak light and traction control off lights all come on. Upon acceleration, only engine light remains on. Will repeat at lower idle.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. While driving approximately 60 mph, the traction control warning indicator illuminated, and the steering wheel and engine began to shake uncontrollably. The odometer speed reduced drastically on its own. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. At times when the vehicle is slowing down/down shifting (more common when going up a grade) it will suddenly lunge forward (before coming to a stop) even with your foot on the brake. It seems to happen when downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear and sometimes it catches me off guard. This is a very dangerous situation especially when slowing down near people. I am always concerned that the vehicle is going to lunge forward and hit something or even worse someone. I hope NHTSA investigates this situation as other people have reported the same problem.
Tl takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. The contact stated that there was a constant loss of speed and premature motor failure. The motor was replaced by an independent mechanic, but the electronic stability control (esc) warning indicator kept illuminating. The contact stated that the manufacturer issued four tsbs on the esc. The dealer (williams Chevrolet, 2600 us-31, traverse city, mi 49684, (231) 946-1111) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted to determine if the remedy and part were available for NHTSA campaign number: 16v383000 (air bags). The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
Cylinder heads cracked due to poor casting (known issue by gm). This led to coolant in the engine causing damage to lifters. Expected cost to fix is approximately $1,500 in parts up to $4,000 in labor.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. While attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start. The contact stated that the vehicle eventually started up after waiting for a while. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the fuel pump, battery, and starter were changed; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the starter was replaced again; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

While driving at 65 mph the engine cut out. Could be the crankshaft position sensor. The truck is a 2500 with an 8. 1l engine. Similar issues that the 2001 was recalled for. Same engine and cps as the 2001 but not included in the original recall. This has happened several times at various speeds.
I was driving my truck at about 45 mph when the traction control light came on the dash and my truck suddenly went from 45mph to 20 mph and the motor began to miss fire and buck. If there would have been someone following me they would of hit me in the rearend due to the sudden slowing of my vehicle.
Total engine loss at highway speed, Chevrolet want to replace the engine, but as I read all these complaint about engine and oil and afm. I believe they should be held accountable for selling lemons. The NHTSA must put a end to manufacturers selling trash.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, there was smoke coming from the vehicle and it suddenly caught on fire without warning. The fire department extinguished the fire. The contact did not disclose if a police/fire report was filed or not. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.
It started with the airbag light, but nobody will own up to fixing it, as we moved from PA to FL. Then the brake lines went, all of them, now with the airbag issue the pcm is sending all kinds of stupid codes like the airbag issue is affecting the whole electrical system in the truck.

The engine has a hesitation due to a manufacuring problem it also uses more oil than it should between oil changes. Also having problem with the electrical system every time I turn around something stops working like the side mirror on the drivers side won't fold in like its supposed to and the backup sensor stopped working. Tried to get our mechanic to fix it but it needs a code to get into the electrical system and gm won't give it to anyone but thier own mechanics. So now we have to go to the dealership to have it fix which will cost alot more. About amonth after purchase the dash got a small crack around the passenger air bag. This is our second 2007 Avalanche the first one had no problems at all and I had no idea that this model had so many problems that the manufacturer won't fix. With as much as these trucks cost even used the should have to repair things that are manufacturer defects.
The dashboard cracked for no reason in two places. One crack involves the passenger side airbag cover and the cover is coming off due to the crack. I told the dealership and they said they had seen this before but would not cover it. The crack is getting worse and the airbag cover is lifting up which will compromise the airbag deployment. There are many other complaints online of the same issue of cracking of the dashboard and all are saying the dealership will do nothing to fix this defect. This vehicle has already had to have the engine replaced twice due to defects, 3 times if you count the initial rebuilding of the engine.
While driving at 65 on the freeway truck began to lose power and when I stepped on gas it didnt respond. Had to keep letting foot off and back on to get it to go. Pulled over to the shoulder turned truck off and it ran good for about 3 minutes and it repeated itself. When engine gets hot the truck loses power and you have to shut it off and repeat this step until you get to where you gotta go. No codes, no warning no nothing. Truck also shuts off while driving. Replaced fuel pump, filter, cleaned maf and throttle body replaced crank shaft sensor and it still does this.
After I purchase the car brand new in 2010 under my brother in law's name, I have probabaly fix the car 5 times for engine power reduce, stablilitrak and all every service lights at the dealer but it had happen again on highway again yesterday, saw that gm recall car on Feb 13 for faulty ignition switch for losing power and its happening to chevy Avalanche too. One worst case was in 2011 driving to maryland at 12 midnight on highway the speed dropped to 30mph. Took it to dealer next day but it seams I loss power every year and have to fix it every year.
