1 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 04/06/2019

I was recently involved in an accident where I passed out while operating my vehicle. I believe that carbon monoxide poisoning was the contributing factor that caused this accident. Faulty exhaust manifold fasteners seems to be an issue that could have caused this accident. I was shocked to see that there is no recall for this problem. I have incurred numerous personal expenses due to the accident, but feel lucky that there were no serious injuries or fatalities. I am writing this to call attention to the issue in hopes that you will do something to keep this from happening to someone else who might not be aware of the issue. I am disappointed that there has been no recall on this product. The vehicle is totaled, but could still be examined to find the cause.

7 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/08/2012

Excessive oil consumption. Initial problem occured on February 11, 2014 and gm dealer did some iinitial work, but the problem was not fixed. On April 27, the engine began running very, very rough and several lights came on (engine light, traction light, stabilitrac light and there may have been others). I immediately pulled over, checked the oil level found it was 1. 5 quarts low, so I added oil and started engine again. So I had vehicle towed to my gm dealer. The next week, the dealer said they were looking into the problem. Finally the week of may 5, they said they would need to replace pistons, rings, lifters and I don't remember the entire list. I asked what was this going to cost and who would be paying for the work. Service manager told me the total would be in the $4500 range, but he would check with gm to see if they would pay part of this. Next day service manager said gm would pay for all except a $500 "warranty deductible". My receipt shows they replaced one piston, the camshaft, 16 lifters, lifter guides, the manifold, a sensor, 8 spark plugs, added 6 quarts oil, installed oil filter, recharged a/c system and charged for numerous gaskets, nuts and bolts. The dealer told me that the reason for the problem was due to the fact that my engine was made in mexico. They said they used parts manufactured in canada on my repair work. I have read on the internet that this excessive oil consumption problem with this engine is not new - it has been reported to gm for several years. Why didn't gm stop using engines manufactured in mexico before 2008 if in fact this is the main reason for this problem. They should have been proactive to prevent this widespread problem and causing their customers to pay needlessly for repairs that gm should have paid for in total - or replaced this engine totally!.

8 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 08/21/2011

Vehicle stalls at high rate of speed, highway driving, truck hesitates and jerks, and comes to the near point of stalling, and low speeds, vehicle does the same, hesitates, and jerks, stalls, all systems fail. Starts back up upon shifting to neutral. Mechanic says it is the crankshaft position sensor on the 8. 1 l 8100 series motor, the same motor that is in the 2001 model silverado, sierra, and suburbans that is the subject of a recall. Location is in the back of the motor making it near impossible to change out without major engine repair work, removing intake manifold and other complex things, to repair an apparent $60 part. Dangerous due to the fact that there is absolutely no indication that this is happening and happened on a vehicle that has been cared for completely. Also, dangerous due to the size of the vehicle and the near impossible task of steering it to a safe place with no power brakes or steering, especially at highway speeds. Mechanic says part it almost 100% plastic and can succumb to high and low variations in temperature and break down in composition. Which, it has done in this truck, again without no warning, and no apparent cost effective repair. It would appear that the recall should be extended to the 2002 model year as well as the same 8. 1 l motor was installed in the Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 truck (by the way, the vehicle was built in 2001), which, other that the different body style has the same chassis and motor as the suburban. Very dangerous for a woman, who cannot or does not have the strength to steer a 7,000 pound truck that completely stalled at a high rate of speed.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500. There are two flex/gas lines connected to the fuel regulators under the drivers seat. The lines have rubbed against each other; they are worn, and cause a friction that created a hole. The pump sprayed gas under the exhaust of the vehicle and it could cause a fire. 13 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 06/15/2002

This complaint is regarding our chevy Avalanche. It was purchased in may, 2002. Shortly after purchasing it, we noticed that it was consuming quite a bit of oil. We were given an explanation that the motor was new, the rings haven't seated yet and 3 different types of oil have been placed in our vehicle -- one of such (straight 30w) is specifically mentioned in the owners manual not to add. Now our vehicle is still burning oil and has begun to blow blue smoke out the tail pipe. We have contacted the dealer, the manufacturer, the better business bureau, the states attorney's office. Currently the manufacturer has us undertaking an oil consumption test. The body (the plastic part) shortly after purchasing (when the weather got hot) started to detach from the metal part in the fender area and the plastic panels in the back of the bed are warped. We are not happy.

14 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

Failure Date: 05/30/2002

My brand new 2002 chevy Avalanche is burning oil and blowing blue smoke out the tail pipe. The manufacturer is now conducting an oil consumption test, but the allowable amount of oil to burn is 1 quart ever 3,000 miles! a new car should not burn oil.
