Front Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Aveo

I was passing through an intersection in a 2005 chevy Aveo, I was hit head on by a Ford ranger pickup truck, both vehicles were totaled. The other drivers airbag had gone off but mine did not. As a result he was fine, but I was knocked temporarily unconscious. I spent the rest of that day in a hospital getting x-rays done and was laid up in bed for the next week on pain killers and muscle relaxers. The pain (primarily in my neck, upper back, and my head which hit the steering wheel) has still yet to go away now almost 3 weeks later.

Passenger air bag intermittently will not engage when a passenger is in the seat the car has been tested and it was proven to a chevy tech that this is a problem.

We purchased a new 2007 Chevrolet Aveo from devoe Chevrolet in alexandria, indiana, on 4-12-2007. From the beginning, the passenger side front air bag has only worked intermittently. We have taken the car back to devoe several times, but they could never duplicate the problem, or find anything wrong. Yet, the problem still persisted. They did replace the seat, checked the seat with weights, etc. , but it did not fix the problem. Finally, when the air bag was not working with me (teresa shuman) sitting in the passenger seat, we took it to devoe, and rusty (the service department manager) saw that the air bag was not working with me sitting in the passenger seat. They again tried to check things out for about an hour or so while we were there, but found nothing wrong. They did finally find an older bulletin from gm that said the air bag in the Aveo sometimes did not work for the passenger if someone leaned back a lot (I wasn't), or if their bottom didn't fit the seat correctly. Devoe has no idea what to do at this point. We called stephanie (gm rep at 1-866-790-5700, ext 21936, case #71-692588437). Stephanie told my husband craig that there was nothing that gm can do to fix the problem. The car is still under warranty. We do not find this acceptable at all!!!! and, the air bag has not just malfunctioned with me, but also malfunctioned with some of our family and friends. We were not told, when we purchased the car, that the air bag would maybe not work, or would only work intermittently, if a person's bottom did not fit the seat correctly. The air bag has malfunctioned for overweight, under weight, and normal weight people. This is a major safety issue, especially in a car as small as the Aveo!!! we cannot believe that gm more or less told us to live with this problem. Please help us . And, its important that people who have purchased an Aveo, or are thinking about purchasing an Aveo, know that the passenger front air bag may not work.

I bought a Chevrolet Aveo one month ago from a dealer in egypt, and when I was making a turn on the highway , I used the brakes slightly and what happened is that the car began moving on its left side , then flipped over two times on the road. The problem is that the airbags didn't open, I was injured . . . When I went to the certified dealer , he told me that this car doesn't have airbags, while all the brochures on the net and on Chevrolet's site say that frontal airbags is a standard feature in the car. . The other problem is that during the brake, the tires locked which made the car move by its side rather than doing the brake, and I was told that Chevrolet Aveo lacks abs system. . . I want to know the truth because I think I was deceived in the safety of this car. . Ps. I have the pictures of the crash. .

Dash warning -- passenger air bag off -- does not turn off when person weighing 105 pounds is in passenger seat.

: the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle began to shudder, and caused a loss of vehicle control. The vehicle veered off the road, into a ditch, and subsequently crashed into a cemetery. The frontal air bags deployed, but did not inflate. The driver and passenger both suffered minor injuries. A police report was taken, and the vehicle was towed to an impound lot.

My 2006 chevy Aveo frontal air bag does not work 90% of the time. It has been to the dealership at least 5 times. I have called the chevy number in the back of their book, and the manufacturer has not dealt with the issue. They have not had the problem fixed. They have made appointments for my vehicle but the air bag is still not working. I am 5 9 and 120 lbs and my husband and I can not use my vehicle because I don't have a working air bag. In this small of a car I would die in a highway accident with out an air bag. My husband gets upset that we can not use a new car with fuel economy for trips together because I'm not protected. This car is new!! the chevy Aveo is very dangerous and should not be purchased. Your family and friends will not be safe, and you will be stuck with a new and unusable car. The passenger air bag does not even activate while driving in town. This car needs to be recalled. It has taken me 3 months to find a place that would take my complaints. It is almost impossible to get any one to deal with this serious problem. What good is a car with out a font air bag. Please someone take this safety hazard serious. My air bag works 1 out of 10 days.

I was in a car wreck where a woman shot across in front of me and I hit her in the passenger side of her vehicle and it was a solid impact for my vehicle at about 25-35 mph. And my airbags, both driver and passenger failed to deploy which resulted in my brother b myself and my sister. Being injured.
