The passenger airbag sensor never turns off, even when someone is sitting in the seat. All of the instrument panel gauges periodically stop working and the instrument panel cluster fuse blows frequently. Also have to frequently use the shift-lock release feature in order to get the car out of park. Have had previous problems with the key getting stuck in the ignition. The daytime running lights also periodically stop working (they turn on and off randomly). Have needed to have damaged wires in the hood compartment fuse box replaced, but all problems keep coming back. Can no longer afford to keep taking the car in for repairs and cannot afford a new car, so I am currently driving with all of these problems. I do not ever feel safe in the car and avoid taking it anywhere unless I absolutely have to. Many of these same problems have been reported by other owners and there needs to be more recalls than just the current fire hazard recall.

I own a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo and it has several occurrences of the air bag not on light. I have taken it to my local chevy dealer for repairs the first 4 times under warranty and the last visit lightened my wallet by almost $500. 00 and guess what it's back on again. I have people now that ride with me that refuse to ride in the passenger seat because they do not believe the bags will operate properly in a crash. Like I said this vehicle was purchased new and this has happened 5 times now in less than 3 years. They have replaced sensors, connectors, wire bundles and 1 time could not get it to duplicate after they reset it. So my question is to you, who does my attorney need to contact when the lawsuit is filed after someone riding in my vehicle dies from lack of airbag deployment? will Chevrolet step up and take responsibility or do they shift blame to you for lack of pursuit in this matter? let me know so the victims relatives can lighten your or Chevrolets wallets for lack of action on a very vital safety item in these vehicles.
Was driving down the highway, and the red airbag malfunction light came on. I pulled over, shut off the car and restarted it, the light turned off, stayed off for about 30 mins, and then came back on, and is now on steady every time the car is running. I have also had problems with the sensor in the passenger seat not registering a passenger sitting in the seat, and the passenger airbag off light stays on.
Back in June of 2008, if filed a complaint with Chevrolet, informing then that my car air bag readiness light has been on and have taken it to the dealer ship numerous times and they informed me that it is because I put my purse on my seat. So finally they found it was a sensors and fixed it however one year later now at 50,000 miles the light is still on no explanation of why. Ever time I turn on the car the airbag readiness light stays on.
The front passenger sensor does not read properly for the majority of passengers. This misread causes the light on the dash to show 'passenger airbag off. ' this is of major concern, the airbag must deploy in an accident and should show to be activated at all times when a passenger is present.
I have had my 2006 chevy Aveo in 3 times to have the air bag warning light fixed. Each time, they tell me that it is fixed and the warning light is off. It has come back on each time. The last time I had it in, they told me that it was fixed for good and would definitely not come back on. It came on again this week, and I do not like the fact that if I am in an accident, the airbags may not work.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that the air bag light fails intermittently when his wife is seated in the passenger seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times. The air bag sensor was replaced and worked for three months. When the failure recurred, the consumer was informed he would have to live with the failure. The contact did everything gm suggested, but the failure still existed. The current mileage was 8,860 and failure mileage was 3,000. Updated 03/04/08. The air bag light stayed on when the passenger seat was occupied. Updated.
Passenger air bag indicator light remains off with 140 + lb adult in passenger seat. Vehicle has 2,400 miles. Deal can not duplicate - says "is normal in cold weather" and to "move around on the seat" to active. Restarting the car corrects the problem.

When a passenger 130lbs sits in the front passenger seat the passenger airbag light is still on indicating the airbag is off! I have had the whole seat repaired and this problem is still existing. This is a safety issue due to if there is a accident how will I know that the airbag system is working properly. The service department says it will make a difference if your skinny but it should not make any difference due to I am past the weight limit for the sensor.
2007 Aveo air bag system for passenger reads off. Chevrolet notified the dealer that the air bag was on even though it said off and would deploy if in an accident. Customer wants the problem fixed once and for all. ** the issue was with the sensor in the passenger seat. The sensor didn't consistently recognize when an adult occupied the seat. Replacing the sensor would not correct the problem as it is a design issue with the sensors.
Passenger air bag off light does not go off with someone less than 150lbs and is intermittently going off with a 185 lb passenger meaning air bag will not deploy. Took to dealership and service department put several people in passenger seat weighing from 140lbs to 230 lbs. 140 lb passenger did not make passenger air bag off light go out. Service department states " advised by tech assist engineers looking into issue" was told by service department they would call me with some answers. No calls for six weeks, when I called them back service department states" it's out of our hands and we can't do anything about this and I can call gm customer service". Called gm customer service, and after two weeks back and forth phone calls was told by gm customer service and dealership service manager there is nothing that can be done as it is within specs. I asked where I can get a copy of these specifications for weight limit on air bags and was told to call gm. Called gm asking for weight limit specifications and stressed that a 140lb passenger should be protected. Gm representative states " we don't have the specifications and you may want to contact NHTSA. So this is what I am doing. Aveo has less than 3000 miles. I would love to just sell the car but morally and ethically I can't. I'm really tired of fighting this battle. Please help!.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. The vehicle has a sensor that engages the air bags. The contacts wife is 5'8 and 130 lbs. When she sits in the front passenger seat, the air bag fails to engage. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that it is working properly. The contact is concerned that if his wife is in the passenger seat during a crash, the air bag will not protect her. However, when the contact is in the passenger seat, the air bag sensor engages. He weighs approximately 230 lbs. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 2,300. Updated 08/30/07.

The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they were unable to repair the vehicle. The contact called the manufacturer and was told that they were aware of the failure and are looking into possible solutions. The current and failure mileages were 543.
The passenger airbag off indicator light on the dashboard remained on when the passenger seat was occupied. This was intermittent, but more likely the indicator light was on, rather that not, indicating the passenger airbag would not deploy in the event of a collision.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag would not activate when his wife was in the passenger seat. His wife weighs approximately 140 pounds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, however, they were unable to duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 10 and current mileage was 3,000. Updated 03-31-08.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. The air bag light fails to illuminate when a passenger is seated. The failure occurs intermittently. The manufacturer was unable to duplicate the failure. The current mileage is 15,500 and failure mileage was 15,400.
Passenger's side air-bag will not activate with passenger over 100 pounds in seat. Turning off and restarting the car corrects the problem. Dealer checked and found nothing wrong with system, (no fault history in computer.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. When the enginewas turned on the air bag indicator light illuminated. The vehicle was repaired on 4/16/07. The current and failure mileage were 6,358.
(1)passenger seat airbag sensor malfunction/ no-fix/ thus no repair purchase new car01/20/07 and airbag light alerts occupants that (2) airbag is not engaged even when an adult is sitting in passenger seat. Problem is intermittent. Took car into dealer service after a week . Consequence of failure is upon a front end collison, airbag would not deploy causing increased injury to passenger occupant. (3) dealer service/Chevrolet and gm state there is no fix thus no repair has been done and vehicle has been in shop since Feb 2nd, just two weeks after purchase. Dealer service and gm tell me that it is a 'design problem' and even replacing the seat would not correct problem as error is within seating mechanism as well. *** service/gm stated it was my fault as "customer to wide" asked my family to come to dealership. Service manager inspected family then said that couldn't be it. Now they are claiming, "not weigh enough" for seat to pick sense someone in seat. My family members weigh between 125-170 lbs.
"passenger side airbag off" light periodically comes one while passenger is in the seat. Since I bought my car on Dec 2005. Has happened more than 50 times. Took to dealer, who said they could not duplicate the problem, and everything was working normally. And "you don't take care of this, be cause the airbags still working" they never replace nothing. Possible safety issue or dead.
The passenger side airbag shuts off periodically with a passenger in the front passenger seat. This happens periodically, the only way to fix it is to have the passenger lift off the seat and sit back down with some force.
- the contact stated that passenger 'sside air bag sensor didn't properly work. The contact stated that anyone under 150 pounds will not activate the passenger side air bag sensor. The contact took the car to the dealer )four or five times for this failure, andthey told her that she did not have a problem. She took the car to city motors ,and they changed the passenger side air bag sensor, but the recurred.
The passenger side air bag works about 33% of the time for my wife. I have had the vehicle to the shop 2 or 3 times concerning this problem. This defect still continues to occur.
: the contact stated the air bag readiness light for the front passenger side illuminated continually indicating that the air bag would not deploy while in an accident. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where an air bag sensor was replaced. This occurred on three separate occassion in March, June and August of 2006. After each incident, the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the air bag sensor was replaced. The vehicle was purchased in December of 2005. The repair invoices are available.
Air bag~sdm internal sensor keeps shorting out.

The passenger airbag sensor does not work!!! after taking it to the dealer 3 or 4 times they were finally able to "duplicate" the problem. . . The sensor was then replaced. Immediately after receiving the vehicle back from the dealer the sensor light started flashing while an adult was sitting in the seat. . It now is still either flashing or not coming on or not turning off when someone is in the seat. . . I informed the dealer of this but of course again it needs to be duplicated as they put it. I am advised to drive the vehicle into the dealership when this occurs. . . Sorry but I am too busy to just stop what I am doing and drive to the dealership. . . Which is located in another city. This item needs to be recalled immediately how many complaints are needed for this to be done?.
"passenger side airbag off" light periodically comes one while passenger is in the seat. Since Feb. Has happened 3 times. Took to dealer, who said they could not duplicate the problem, and everything was working normally. Possible safety issue.
The air bag sensor light stays on while someone is riding in the passenger seat. According to the dealer if you weight between 80 and 120 lb. This may occur. However, it happens when my daughter who weights 140 lbs rides in the seat as well. This is a definitely safety hazard and needs to have a recall done. I have complained to the dealer since I purchased the car in Jan 2006. In July they replaced the sensor, they replaced the seat bottom (the pattern did not match my interior) and it worked correctly. After ordering the correct pattern and installing in my car the problem continues to persist. It is an inconsistent problem. I can ride in the passenger seat to the store and the light will go off, on the trip back it stays on. During one trip to the store while my daughter was in the passenger seat the light stayed on so I drove to the dealer, both the general manager and the service manager saw her in the seat with the light on. They ran diagnostics on the car and it shows no malfunctions. They stated there was nothing they could do since the diagnostics didn't show any error codes. How safe is this!!! it is imperative the general motors be forced to fix this problem. They are aware of the problem as I have written the president and yet the 2007 still has the same air bag system. I can not count the number of times this has happened. I would appreciate contract and resolution to this issue.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact had the vehicle's air bag sensor replaced three times. The air bag warning light illuminated at 17,000 miles. The dealer replaced the sensor. At 20,000 miles, the light illuminated again. The dealer does not know why the air bag light continues to illuminate, but stated that if the sensor does not get replaced, the air bag will deploy. At 29,000 miles, the sensor was replaced again. After parking the vehicle, the contact attempted to apply the emergency brake but it felt lose. The brake was released and the vehicle was towed because the wheels would not move. The dealer stated that the brake assembly fell apart. The failure recurred at 40,000 miles. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 42,000 and failure mileage was 17,000.
2007 chevy Aveo with faulty passenger airbag system. Customer states the airbag light stays on when his wife is in the passenger seat indicating that the airbag is not active. He also states the light will go out intermittently. The dealer tested the unit and found that it met Chevrolet standards but it did in fact have intermittent operation. The consumer believed the design of the seat sensor was defective.
