I got into my car at night to drive home from a friend's house. None of my internal lights, with the exception of the clock and radio, would come on. Driving at night without being able to see your dash instruments is not easy. I am told it has to do with a short in the power distribution box.
I have a 2005 Aveo LS just purchased 21 days ago. The instrument panel lights no longer work. The intermittently would come on and go off, but now do not work at all. Took to a mechanic and he initially replaced the dimmer switch because it was burnt. However, that did not solve the problem. After further investigation, he says that the purple wire leading to the splice pack has burned. In trying to obtain the part, Chevrolet will only sell the entire splice pack; to the tune of $5,100!!! after researching online, I have found hundreds of people with the exact same problem. No there hasn't been a fire yet!.
Chevy Aveo 2008 bought brand new in may 18 2009 still under warranty when I bought the car there was a defect in it and the car salesman did not report it to us when we bought the car. The failure is the instrument panel and shifter indicator lights are not working. I can not see at night how fast I am going, can't see my gauges, or when I am shifting into drive etc. I feel it is very unsafe especially driving at night. I did read that chevy Aveo have electrical problems which I did not know until after buying the car. The consequences of the failure is that it is unsafe and it will not pass safety inspection here in the state of hawaii. The failure to fix the needed repair can result in an accident and be danger to others. Correct the problem. . . . . . I reported it to the salesman on may 20 and was referred to service the car. The dealership closed down and 2 months later the service dept. Open. The wrong part was ordered and it is over 3 months the car still not fixed. . . The service dept will close down this Friday on Nov. 13 2009. I have been in contact with costumer assistance several times and the service dept locally but they can't do anything as it might take several months or a year no time frame according to customer assistance from GMC. Please let me know what to do. Thank you.

First thing that went wrong with the car is the clock for no reason at all it changes to 12:00 it does it when the car is on and running it also does it when you first turn the car on. This has been replaced once and has failed a second time again. Second is my gear shifter I have an automatic and it sticks in park all the time and all year long the first time it happened I was sitting at a gas pump and I was completely stuck and it wouldn't move so I had the car towed to my dealer and they fixed it but it stuck 10 + more times since 5 times I took it to the dealer and 3 times it was repaired. I bought my car in 2004 and too this day it still sticks I actually have parts being ordered again to get it fixed. Third is my key and alarm I can't use my security alarm on my car because when its set on it goes off about every half hour for no reason. Fourth is my head lights and brake lights. I was traveling in a big city buffalo when all three of my brake lights stopped working I went to an auto shop to get them replaced and they replaced them right there and the new ones wouldn't even work. My headlights go off when ever and turn back on after awhile. Even when I'm driving down the street but the dealer claims they can't find anything wrong with that part. Fifth is my ball joint was defected and I went threw 4 pairs of tires within 2 years before my dealer realized what that problem was. Sixth both the rear strut holding mounts just fell off car and my struts went threw my back bottom trunk. The dealer said he never seem anything like it. The right side went first and that was fixed then about a week later the left side went I replaced everything brand new and it happened again a third time the left strut and holding mount failed. I actually have parts ordered for that as well right now. A smaller complaint is the cig. Lighter outlet doesn't work, and that's being replaced for the second time.
This is a condition that is a safty haszard. I have recently purchased a Chevrolet Aveo. I noticed the speed did not seem right. I had this checked by the daeler I purchased the car from. It was of 7-9%. The speed reads higher than you are going. This is not a constant. It may be right one time and read wrong the next. This leads to estimating you speed as to not become a hazard for other motorists. Chevrolet informed me they know this and it is normal! they have no fix for this and basicly told me I will have to live with it! this is a car I purchased new! how can they sell a car with this fault? the number of failures is a guess- I have no way of knowing how many times it has happened.
