There was no prior warnings or notices that there was an issue. While diving on a major road with my children, smoke started coming into the cabin from the vents, and around the stereo. Luckily I was near a very vacant parking lot and immediately pulled over. I removed the kids from the car safely and did open the hood to try troubleshoot the problem. There was no smoke anywhere under the hood. Immediately after, sparks started falling from under the steering wheel to the gas pedal. Immediately after that the car was engulfed in flames. The car is currently located at my local police impound and is available for inspection upon request. From the time the smoke started to when the car was engulfed, it was approximately 5 minutes. This could have been dangerous had we been on a highway and unable to pull over and get out of the car safely within that time. It was only inspected briefly by the fire department who arrived to put out the fire and they reported it was an electrical issue that caused the fire.

This is happening to my car. Would like them to fix it . Manufacture defect and it is a huge safety issue. Effect pedal function. Some customers may comment on an intermittent malfunction indicator lamp (mil) being illuminated with a message or an indicator that displays reduced engine power. The technician may observe on a scan tool dtc p2138 - accelerator pedal position (app) sensor 1-2 correlation set as current or in history. This condition may be caused by water intrusion into the instrument panel (ip) to body harness connector, which carries the app sensor signals to the ecm/pcm. This water intrusion results in a voltage difference between app sensor 1 and app sensor 2 that exceeds a predetermined value for more than a calibrated period of time, setting p2138. This technical bulletin provides repair information for repairing the ip to body harness connector to correct a customer concern for intermittent malfunction indicator lamp (mil) illuminated with reduced engine power displayed and dtc p2138 set. Known issue. Has not been recalled yet. . Read more...
In-dash clock module contains the vehicle 'check engine light' - required to pass inspection. Solder joints are defective ('cold' or cracked) creating intermittent electrical connections. Prevents warning of engine defects to driver. Solder defects eventually cause destruction of the module incurring unreimbursed denial of transport and expense to driver to repair.

I have been to the shop so many times since I bought this car. The first time out of nowhere it started smoking white smoke and overheated the engine and come to find out the tubing in the car had exploded. Then got everything fixed and now still having the same problem with overheating and white smoke but now a burning smell. It's something new every time. I found this response o. Your website with another person who has this car and this happened to mine as well: hoses to my cooling system all busted one after another with in 5 day we could see the week spot in the hose after thy busted, had the thermostat changed , it also blow my head gasket this is also happened and I barely drive it. It's 5 miles down the street where I work with a 45mph max speed limit. I have pictures and videos as well but can't attach it.

So I was at home and my car was parked outside and it caught on fire in the inside. The fire department came and put out the fire. It damaged the dashboard and the window. I have read that it is a recall on my vehicle which causes it to catch on fire. Manufacturer recall numbera140093 NHTSA recall number14v261 recall statusrecall incomplete.
Arrived at home put my car in park and my key was stuck in the ignition and unable to shut my car off. Had to pull fuse to the computer and disconnect negative side of battery. Took it to a shop they advised no communication with shifter. Shop drilled out my old ignition lock cylinder and replaced with a new key lock cylinder. Seems to be working as of now after a $518. 74 bill.
My electrical panel was defective, sent in 4 times and they claimed to replace the electrical panel. It was rigged by crossing wires and lights in dash dont work and radio tapped into wipers. Then calipers, sway arms, shocks, catalytic converter was defective and also never replaced right. Paid someone to put emissions sticker to pass.
Hello. My Aveo started, and when I tried to shut it off, it would continue to run. This problem persisted until I pulled a fuse from the engine. I returned the fuse to its allocated spot, but now there is zero life in the Aveo when I attempt to start it. The lights come on, and I have tried jumping the battery on two separate occasions. This is the second such occurrence in three years. Last time I paid to have my vehicle towed to a mechanic, and all they did was jump it. Started right up, they said.
I try to put a seat belt on a child in the back seat and it dose not work at all. The steering on my Aveo is also not safe it feels as if my axel on my car is going to brake? also this car has caught on fire as I was on the freeway coming from work. I have replace the Cadillac converter on this car as well as 2,000 other repairs into my car. It is very dangerous knowing that one day when I get in my car it may caught on fire if it get to hot. It very sad all I would like to do is go to school and work get home safe guaranteed every day.
Gm must not know this this has to do with the electrical wire harness inside of the engine block for the lights. For some reason the power is over writing the fuses and not blowing and causing small engine fires that could get out of control. I caught mine in enough time and put it out. A guy has to do with the right side and the left side in the fuse box being two separate entities of wires which is 7 + 7 equals 14 to control two different sizes. I was just wondering why and gm needs to know what's the sense of having a fuse box if the wires are going to override the fuse. And possibly catch fire or will catch fire it just a matter of an accident waiting to happen. I've been on youtube and found out this is a common thing to happen for chevy Aveo will there be a 2004 through 2008. I'm letting you know about this concern because I do not want anybody to die from a car fire because gm. Maybe not know about this that it's a big issue an accident waiting to happen. Sincerely darrin kistuline if someone needs to reach me my phone number is +(xxxxx). Thank you n. T. S. B for looking into this. Just really concerned because if the fire would have got out of hand I have my grandchildren in the car god forbid something were to happen to them. When I go to turn off my car it will still run even if the key is out of the ignition. I seen a lot of people have this problem and it definitely is a safety hazard. I have a 4 year in my car when this was happening. I made it home off the high way with no problems but when I go to park my car it won't turn off.
I have owned this car for less than a year and it has shut down while driving 4 times already. I have taken it to the dealer for repair they say they can not find anything wrong that they would have to be driving it when it shuts down. So this is how it happens I am on the highway driving and out of nowhere my entire car just shuts down and I am trying to coast to safety. Imagine that not being a safety issue and that this car has not been recalled yet. Recently I have been speaking with another person who owns the same exact car and he told me that his car has shut down just like that on several occasions. So if this is happening to me and another random person that I am speaking with I am wondering why this car is not being recalled. I am afraid that I am going to die in that car how safe can driving on a highway and have your car suddently shut down with cars flying past you at 70 or 80 miles an hours be. Please look into this I believe that there should be a recall on this car. I see below that you are asking for specific dates that this has happened I do not know those exact dates so I will pick a date.

Interior dash and console lights in-operative as well as the right tail light. Jesus christ, after seeing all of the people complaining about this our beloved no good for nothing governmental agencies should make gm responsible for the cost of repair for this obvious manufacturers or engineering defect. Or at least send out detailed instructions to the owners on how to fix this problem so they can take it to their mechanic of choice to get it fixed. The dealers obviously don't want to do anything about it. And they charge too much any how. Sincerely, george s.
In fear of a fire in my Aveo!.
Update on previous claim #10898024 left side tail light is out and left head light. This is all from the main connector in fuse box under the hood of car.
Dash and shifter lights went out and came back on and eventually went out completely- would not come on upon startup. Some front and rear lights as well. Blinkers & flashers still work. Have checked all fuses and bulbs. Needs electrical repair.
Dash board lights began to flicker while driving on the interstate. Dash board indicator lights would come on and then go out without cause while driving. Then vehicle would not shift into automatic overdrive while driving on the interstate. Air conditioner then would stop cooling both on interstate and in town. Cruise control ceased to operate while engaged. Condition ruined battery, causing vehicle to not start. Vehicle currently in auto repair shop.
