The left side mount-to-mount bracket bolt broke when accelerating normally from a stop. This is one of the bolts that holds the engine to the frame. This caused my shift stick to be thrown back on every acceleration. This is an obvious safety risk. I have not yet had this problem verified or confirmed by anyone. The car seemed to drive well and normal before and up to this incident.
Problem with the transmission.

At 60k miles the speedometer stopped working. Vehicle runs fine but not having a speedometer is a safety hazard. There are only a few transmissions that have this problem where the speedometer in operated by a plastic gear inside the transmission. I had to replace the transmission cost me 1600 dollars and the 9 months later that gear let go also. Again I had to change the transmission. The car will not pass inspection without the speedometer working. This is a faulty design and should have been recalled.

Purchased this car with less than 30,000 miles from a local dealer. Problems including power loss and over heating within first few days of purchase. Chevy dealer "repair" we continue to have the same issues currently. Chevy escalates and says not a known issue, we should pay thousands to repair head gasket even though there tech support says to damage to gasket is not showing up when tested. Dangerous small vehicle that looses power for unknown reason and overheats for unknown reason. So far it can not be repaired. Many consumer blogs and same complaints. Thousands of blogs.
While driving on the expressway going the speed limit of 55 mph when all of a sudden, there was a sudden hesitation delay in the acceleration that dropped me to 20-25mph, out of the blue. . Scared the daylights out of me!!!. . I have only 51,340 miles on the odometer, come to find out with a diagnotic check it says speed sensor, coded as p0700/p0722,it was replaced still coded as p0722 ,p0700,p0597 and idle codes too. . Took it to a gm (chevy dealership and they said with no fault of me, there was pre- mix of transmission fluid and coolant fluid mixing in the radiator. . The speedometer and the odometer went out service engine light pop on now there's no warranty,it has expired 4/2016 yet 80,000 miles which ever comes first, I'm the second owner and now I have to pay 1,200 in repairs. . This is not fair!!!!! I googled and my chevy Aveo 2011 is not the only vechicle with these issues. . Maybe a recall should be in order, not sure please tell me. . .
This Aveo has only 7,552 miles and when accelerated to pull out it has no power. When you do get out in road it only goes 15-20 mpg even when acceleration is to the floor. I had to pull over to the side of road-turned it off and restarted then drove it about 2 miles and it did it again-very dangerous-unsafe-hope someone looks into this.

So as I'm driving (in motion) whether it be 30 mph or 70 mph my car dies out. Does not shut off, but I do not have any acceleration. I have to immediately pull over because I cannot move. I spoke to mechanics and they are saying it is the throttle body. As I research this, there has been so many complaints regarding this against gm and nothing not one thing has been done. Do they not understand that as your driving 70 mph and then have no control of speed in the passing lane or regular lane that you can get killed my another car? if you go under Chevrolet you can see complaints about this. I asked if this was under warranty and it is not. It is not part of the power train. Yet gm knows there is a defective part and they are just not willing to fix it. They will wait til someone dies first and then fix it. I am filing a complaint regarding the throttle for it is just not my car for I have researched how many cars this has happened to, and knowing that gm knows about this indicated on complaints to gm this needs to be fixed for safety reasons. If something was to happen while I was driving my grandchildren around or when my daughter drives the car I will never forgive gm. Especially where they know about this part. Now I put this as of 11/1/15 but that is not the only time it's been ongoing since then. I am very worried to drive this car, yet it is very expensive to have this fix and it is not under a $2,000 warranty insurance I purchased when I bought this car. April 2014 is when I bought this used car and have had it towed 2x already and engine lights on 2x had to have repaired. So thinking there has to be recalls on this car and nothing is being shown.
The gearshaft won't come out of park. I had this repaired at the dealership about two years ago and it is now happening again and paid $300 for a ground wire. My car currently has 90000 miles on it. I would like to file a formal compliant regarding the same issue. Please contact me ASAP I can be reached at 314-837-3877 or 314-497-5577.

I am on a fixed income. I bought this car used with 22,000 miles on it which I intended to take care of and drive for years to come, in fact into the ground. The manual I received with the car indicated that the timing belt should be replaced at 100,000. I live in a rural area where you really need a vehicle. I had driven to another town for a medical appointment. While traveling at 55 mph the car just died in heavy traffic in a 55 mph zone. I was lucky that a good samaritan helped me out of the dangerous condition I was in on the road. My vehicle had 65,321 miies on it. I had to have the car towed to a dealer. It was determined the timing belt broke causing valve damage. I was told it would cost $5,000 to repair it which is what I paid for the vehicle. I did not having $5,000 so I junked the car. This ordeal caused significant problems for me financially, emotionally and physically. I was 62 at the time. The website carcomplaints has 56 similar complaints related to 2004 chevy Aveos. All of the timing belts failed below 100,000 miles. There are similar complaints for the 2005 chevy Aveo. Why wasn't I notified about this problem so I would not lose my shorts on my vehicle. I could have been killed. The event was terribly frightening. I suffer from heart failure. My new car payment is very hard to deal with on a fixed income. I took excellent care of the car. I should have been contacted about such dangerous condition. I would like some answers.

Car went to 500 rpm then dropped to 300 rpm then down to 100 rpm; I immediately pulled off the main road to a side street. Lost power steering and was unable to restart car again. Car taken to local mechanic after running diagnostic tests on the vehicle, determined the car was savable and that the timing belt broke causing three sets of valves to bend. The timing belt kit, head gasket, water pump and valve kits need to be changed. The engine needs to be reconditioned; new engine oil needs to be put into the car along with flushing the fluids. Since this is a massive rework of the vehicle, it will be out of service one week and the repair cost is $2,100. 00. Mileage on the car is under 60,000, I am original owner. General motors - Chevrolet division contacted because I did not take to a gm dealer for service (unable to afford) and because they advised me this is so far out of the warranty, they would not offer any assistance. However, I did look up a service bulletin and it did say the parts are under warranty.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag and the check engine warning indicators illuminated. In addition, the hold button to activate the four wheel drive failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice. The dealer was unable to diagnose the other failures; however, all the failures recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
My daughter brought a 2011 chevy Aveo in wisconsin. When she came back home there were several occasions that I used her car. The first time I drove her car I drove it to work. While I was driving at 55mph the car jerked very hard to the left. I had to really hold the steering wheel harder than usual to gain control of the car. I called my daughter and asked her about the car jerking towards incoming traffic. My daughter stated that the car did jerk sometimes. I told my daughter to go get the car checked out. I told her to have them check the jerking out and why the car was wearing out tires so fast. My daughter had the car checked and she was told her car couldn't be aligned. My mom, my other daughter, her father, step father and myself drove the car at different times and the jerked while each of us drove it. Unfortunately my daughter lost her life in an accident in that same chevy Aveo in 2014. I was told to come to the hospital because there was an accident on August 1 at 11:45. When I arrived at the hospital the corner and the state trooper met me in a waiting room. They explained to me that my daughter passed away in the car accident she was involved in. She had crossed over the median line and on the shoulder. She tried to correct herself and get back in her lane and was hit on the driver side and killed instantly. When they told me that I knew that the car had jerked on her again and this time cost my daughter her life. Yes it was foggy and damp from the rain that evening. The police stated that a tire was slick and the road was wet. I was very glad that she was talking to her friend that night. Her friend was the one who called the police when she heard my daughter scream an the line went dead. I just want someone to know that something was wrong with that car. I looked online and found people who had the same problem with there Aveo's as well.
2006 Chevrolet Aveo. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle multiple mechanical and electrical problems. The consumer stated she experienced multiple mechanical and electrical problems with the vehicle. It was not disclosed to her, that the vehicle had frame damage, it was a fleet vehicle, and the air bags were replaced with used ones. While driving 45 mph, a bolt in the broke, which caused the engine to collapse and landed on the axle, breaking it on the driver's side. Also, she had the axle replaced previously, not knowing there was a problem with the frame. Due to the frame damage and warped undercarriage, a bolt connected to the frame that was connected to the motor mount hidden under the engine had previously bent and severed 3/4 of the way through the bolt. It went un-detected and her mechanic didn't know what to look for, since the frame was not disclosed.
I hear loud bangs coming from the rear section of the vehicle and took it to a local mechanic. He informed me that the axle housing bushings were worn causing movement side to side in the housing. When he called a dealer to purchase bushings the parts person said he could not sell the bushings but had to sell the complete housing because there were problems with the parts and it was redesigned. If they knew about a design flaw why did they not issue a recall for the parts. Estimated cost for new rear axle is $1,000. 00 plus labor verses replacing bushing for around $70. 00 plus labor.
My grandmother has sought help because here key gets extremely hot. Her gear shifter locks up and she cant move it. The air bag light pops on and wont go off. Also she has asked multiple times at various dealers etc, about it and they tell her there are no recalls or anything known. We know their are problems with the daytime running light module but nobody seems to have any information on this. . . As I said this is for my grandmother.
I was driving approximately 25mph when suddenly I heard a strange, loud rubbing/ clattering noise coming from under the hood. I pulled the vehicle over and turned the engine off. My boyfriend, who is a mechanic, looked at the engine and said the timing belt was broken. The vehicle would not restart and had to be towed. Now I am finding out that this is a known problem in this particular 4 cylinder gm vehicle. This engine is an interference engine. This means that the only thing preventing the valves from striking the pistons during vehicle operation is the timing belt. If/ when it breaks, it causes catastrophic engine damage, often requiring engine replacement. One or more of the timing belt pulleys are made of plastic. When the timing belt pulley breaks, shards of plastic snap off and become lodged inside of the engine, rendering the engine useless. Also, at high rate of speed, the valves become bent when the belt/ pulley(s) malfunctions. This is both costly and dangerous to the consumer, and the manufacturer should have made all pulleys and moving parts on the engine out of metal instead of plastic.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that after parking, the vehicle rolled away in reverse. The contact engaged the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the shifter cable tab fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 78,000. . . Updated 12-30-13 updated 1/17/2014.
We were on our way to the local market, going about 10 miles an hour, we started leaving one store to the next. . . As I pull out to the light I start to hear a rattle . . Then a loud explosion under the hood. . Sparks and fire shot out and the engine died and we coasted about 20 feet and parked it. . . . . I get out and look under the hood. . The engine had dropped 8 inches from the frame and is merely 3 inches from the concrete . . . . . . The engine pullies are pushed up to the side of the car and I believe everything attached to the engine is bent one way or another and when it dropped it busted through the suspension!!!! we had it towed to clark's automotive in huntington west virginia 25703 (304-522-3876). Everyone we talked to had never seen that happen before! thank you!!.
The car just lose acceleration and won't resspond to the pressing of accelation. The engine slow and shaky. It would pickup sometimes after flooring the accelerator couple of times. The check engine also came up after the second occurence.
I have only had this car for 6/7 months before I started having problems. First the passenger door stopped opening and then the interior lights went out within the first 3 months. I was on my way to work one day and the car started decellerating until it just stopped. At first this was an off an on issue but now it wont start at all. I replaced the ignition coil and spark plugs, just to find that there was a recall I wasnt aware of, but the car still wont move and the battery is dead now.
Just put it in drive give it gas wont go over 20 mph, put in nutreal it reves up rpms go up and sounds good put back in drive back to 20 mph even when giving it gas no rpms no go just 20 mph wont go any faster. What is going on. This seems to be a problem. . .
Hi I bough a 2005 chevy Aveo with 9,000. 00 mile I had no problem. Until one day the car completely stop and wont turn on. It had almost 23,000. 00 when it happen. Luckily for me it stop in front of a mechanic shop. The shop check the car and said the engine is bad. I bough a used low mileage engine replace it and it turn on and drive except for the shifting. It didn't shift to fourth gear and also turn off while driving it. Then I was told the transmission is bad. I change the transmission with low mileage and still I have the same problem I had warranty change it again and still it doesn't shift fourth gear and it still turns off. I change the computer, I did a tune up, engine oil change, I've change the coils and some seal in top of the engine, and I still have the same problem. The car been sitting since then I wanted to wait to have money to fix it, thinking that maybe the shop was lying to me by asking me to replace all this things. I save I few dollars and wanted to get it fix I had another shop looked at it and it seems that is the same diagnostic was detected. I friend told me to google it and I found out that am not the only one with that problem. I just wish I google it before I spend all the money on it. Lesson learn I hope they do a recall because I too was afraid to drive and get in to an accident because it turn off on me .
The lights on the shifter no longer work on my 2009 chevy Aveo. More specifically, these are the lights on the shift lever located on the console between the seats.
Driving at 55 mph the car felt like came out of 5th gear. I checked to make sure the car was in gear. Pushed the clutch in (very tight). The car was loosing power but tach was still at 3000. I coasted to the side of the road and the car had no spark. Lights still worked. I had the car towed and found that the timing belt failed which took out the water pump and damaged my head. There was no warning at all. At this time I have been told by mechanic and 2 Chevrolet dealerships that this is a common occurrence. Thank god it was 5:15 am and not a lot of traffic on the road.
