2010 Chevrolet Aveo. Consumer states problem with vehicle not having power several months after the vehicle was purchased, the consumer began experiencing situations where there was absolutely no power. She would be driving down the road, highway or interstate and all of a sudden the vehicle would begin to slow down, and when pressing the accelerator, there was absolutely nothing. She would pull off to the side of the road, turn the vehicle off and back on and it would go again. The dealer performed the po132 bulletin 100604012. The consumer then took the vehicle to firestone, because the check engine light illuminated for the second time and she continued to have no power. The consumer then went to another dealer, where they replaced the 02 sensor. Several months later, she received a recall notice regarding an emissions problem which was performed on may 22, 2012. After the recall was performed, the power issue continued.

1st time-I was driving and my car started to sputter and when I hit the gas pedal for acceleration nothing would happen, the rpm would raise and the car wouldn't accelerate. 2nd time- same as above but stalled after sputtering 3rd time-sitting at a light when the light turned green I couldn't move(pushed gas all the way to the floor with no results) 4th time-driving and it started to sputter aggressively and un able to get power and then stalled. 5th time- pulled out of parking spot and couldn't get any gas could only coast,in a half mile distance it stalled 3 time when I finally parked it and called a tow truck. **each time the car acted up I took it to the dealership and each time they tell me there is nothing wrong with it they couldn't get an error code. 5 times being in the dealership, the 3rd time they said they received a low idle code and did a decarbon costing me $53, put that didn't help. The 4th time it was at the dealers I was told to drive a long distance and open up the engine (are you kidding me) there is defiantly something wrong with this car! this could be very deadly if it happens in the wrong place.

I was driving on the highway when the engine light came on. The vehicle ran for a few minutes before it started losing power and chugging along on the highway. When I pulled off, I had to flutter on the gas to keep the car from stalling at the stop sign. To make it home on the back roads, I did not stop at stop signs for fear of the car stalling, I had the gas pedal to the floor and it was only going approximately 10 mph. I did not drive it to the dealership, it was towed. They found several engine control module updates. Reflashed ecm code s47490d. Performed campaign 11290 spark plugs and boot. While at dealership, tech found rear shocks were leaking. E5807 - rear shock absorbers replaced, both sides.
2005 Aveo (bought new) with timing belt failure destroying engine. Had this happened on the interstate at 70 miles an hour it could have been fatal. From my research GMC has known about this issue since at least 2006 and yet have not assisted consumers to correct this nor recalled their car. I have read reports on almost all years of Aveo having this problem well before the 60000 recommended timing belt replacement. Two different mechanics confirmed timing belt failure. All I get from GMC is the run around. Upset over money but more concerned about these cars being on the highways and creating some horrible accident when the engine suddenly stops working and controlling the car is difficult or impossible. Planning to get rid of mine, can't afford the thousands of dollars to fix nor do I trust this car.

At a stop the car was put in park, ignition switch turned off and the key would not come out. Started the car again and could not move the shifter out of park. Vehicle was taken to the dealership. Ignition lock module was not sending signal. It was not grounding out as designed. Module was replaced. There was still no change in resolving the problem. Tested shifter and found internal failure of module. The entire shifter module and assembly was replaced.

This is the same vehicle as NHTSA incident 10393028 (snapped plastic thermostat housing unit). Driving on a multiple lane freeway at ~65mph and the timing belt snapped (high pitched whistle like the car window was slightly open). Immediately lost all speed control and began rapidly decelerating. Thankfully, was in right hand lane and was able to coast off the next available exit. Likely would have been killed had I been in any other lane in morning traffic and lost control of vehicle. Once stopped, car could not be turned back on and would not move until turned into acc mode where it finally allowed me to shift into neutral. Had to be towed, eventually to the dealership. Engine damage was catastrophic and required extensive and expensive repairs (3 weeks and approximately $2,700). Snapped timing belt also bent pistons and valves and required the water pump to be replaced. This is clearly a known issue that should be dealt with by Chevrolet, rather than hiding behind the 60,000 mile replacement, which is laughably low for a timing belt. Further - my timing belt was supposed to have been replaced at 50,000 miles and thus not only did a Chevrolet dealership lie to me, they put my life at risk by knowing this was an issue that would inevitably occur long before the next scheduled belt replacement. This car has been meticulously maintained with oil changes every 3,000 miles and only 5,000-10,000 miles driven/year. There was no reason for the timing belt to snap other than being a faulty part that should have been recalled.

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo. The vehicle was parked and shut off when a child was able to shift the vehicle into gear without applying the brake. The vehicle began to roll forward until crashing. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed and was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 120,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that the vehicle would hesitate when changing gears and in addition, the heater was inoperable. The contact would also smell smoke coming from the vents sporadically. The dealer and a local mechanic were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 93,000 and the current mileage was 105,000. The VIN was unavailable. Kmj.
Taking of from a stop sign, I heard a quick whirring sound and the car died. I pulled off to the side of the road, where I tried to restart the car to no avail. The car was towed to a certified mechanic. The mechanic found that the timing belt had broken prematurely. It was not due to be changed until 60,000 miles. (originally 90,000 in the mechanics book, amended by gm) the timing belt failure caused the valves in the engine to be bent and the engine rendered useless.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo. The contact stated that she could not remove the key from the ignition. In addition, the vehicle would not properly accelerate on an incline. The vehicle was taken for inspection however, the mechanic could not diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of problem. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet Aveo that has given me numerous problems. A little over a year ago I noticed I could not shift my car out of park I have to use a screwdriver to shift my gear out of park. Soon after I noticed my brake lights stopped working. I brought a box of fuses but this only fixed the problem for less than a week. Every time I put a new fuse in the brake lights went back out in a day or two. One day while I was on the freeway my car just suddenly stopped without any warning. I took the car to the dealer it was still under the power train warranty. It was a electrical problem causing all of these problems and cost over $2,000 to fix. A year later the problems started again I can't move my gear without using a screw driver, my brake lights and headlights are out. If I slam the hood of my car one headlight will come on which shows that something is wrong with the wiring. The engine light and hold mode light flashes constantly. I feel this car is dangerous because there are no brake lights which can easily cause a accident. I was pulled over by the police because of no brake lights a $125 ticket. I am in a bind because I really need my car for work but I do not have $2,000 (no longer under warranty) to fix this car only to have the same problem happen again months from now. Also, I have noticed a strong gas smell from the car that has me concerned. I have read so many internet post from other people complaining about the same problems. This car seriously need to be recalled because it is endangering people lives.
Wife was driving down expressway when all of the systems shut off. Just like she had turned the key off. She coasted to the side of the road and after about 30 minutes she restarted the car and drove home. She took the car to the dealership where we purchased it, they checked the car and found nothing wrong.
While car was parked I was unable to shift to drive. I had to call a tow truck to my job and have it towed. Luckily the tow guy knew where the emergency bypass was or else I would have had to wait for a crane to lift it. At the dealership they had to replace my brake sensor and my gear shift. According to tow guy this is happening alot. Thank goodness I wasn't driving it when it happened.
Driving back to saint louis missouri from lake wales florida when timing belt broke on my 2004 Chevrolet Aveo. Engine died and from what I've read on the internet the engine design on these cars is an "interference" engine which means when the timing belt breaks it basically destroys your car. I cant understand why a company would knowingly sell and not warn customers that catastrophic engine damage will occur from a simple belt breaking on these particular engines.
When starting the car and then trying to shift from "p" to "d" will not move have to turn the vehicle off put key in shift lock hole and then shift to "n" and then depress the brake, start the vehicle then shift down to "d" or up to "r".

2005 Aveo 3rd time with this problem it will not come out of park it sticks . 2 times the dealer told me it was the shifter. 3rd time they told me it was a bad connection to the brakes. Know sense they stated it's fixed when you press the brake the shift clicks loud also you don't have to push the shifter down it just slides up and down. . Not safe I need a good car that I feel safe in.
