5 Radiator problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Aveo

Failure Date: 06/24/2015

I bought by chevy Aveo in 2013 with roughly 27,000 miles on it. I loved that car and it worked well for me until recently at 45,000 miles. While driving, 15-20 minutes into the drive, the car would lose power and fail to accelerate. I would put the pedal all the way to the ground and the spedometer would barely creep up. The first two times it did this it "snapped out" of it and drove the rest of the way with no problems. This last time I had some leaking radiator fluid which the dealer wrote off as a "loose radiator cap". When the cap was screwed back on it still stalled for my father, and it wasn't from overheating. The dealer says they can't find anything wrong with my car. I currently have it at another mechanic for a second opinion. I am extremely disappointed with Chevrolet. Will sell this car ASAP and never buy from chevy again!.

6 Radiator problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Aveo

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

The fan shroud rubbed against the radiator and caused a radiator leak.

7 Radiator problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Aveo

Failure Date: 05/25/2013

Car was going 60-65 in carpool lane of freeway when my husband, driving, said he lost the ability to accelerate. This was without warning. We managed to cross 3 lanes and exit the freeway and he lost the ability to steer. The car broke down at the first stop light and began smoking very heavily. The car smoked for 30-40 minutes after the engine was already shut off. All I kept thinking was 'thank goodness we got off the freeway!' apparently, according to the mechanic which was later confirmed by bulletin no. 08-06-02-002b the fan shroud had been rubbing against the radiator causing it to crack and leak fluid. It overheated, melting and damaging many parts and causing us to break down on the freeway going 60+ miles an hour.

10 Radiator problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Aveo

Failure Date: 02/14/2011

2011 car lost acceleration hold light and check engine light came on had to pump gas pedal to prevent car from cutting off . Took car to chevy dealer had to purchase water or fuel pump I forgot which one. Then receive recall for coil. Had that replaced free at dealer. 2012 incident, car lost acceleration at speeds of 40mph again had to pump gas pedal to prevent cut off. Did not take to dealer added gas treatment to fuel and changed gasoline brands. Problem solved for about two weeks. Lost acceleration again. Changed air filter car was good for about 2 days. Continued to drive car for next several years with same problem. 2013 car not producing any heat added anti-freeze, heat came out right after. Next day no heat again anti-freeze container was empty again. Continued to added anti-freeze to prevent car from running hot. 2014 took car to dealer for anti-freeze problem they replaced the container and cap (purchased separately) and flushed the radiator cost $312. Two weeks later car ran hot steam shooting out from under the hood. Anti-freeze container empty again. Returned car to dealer where it is now they told me I had blown head gaskets and that it would cost $1500 to repair on a car I still pay monthly notes. They called the next day told me gm would cover 60% of the cost and I had to pay $600. I feel that gm should add the 2009 Chevrolet Aveo to their list of recall and replace the whole car for all who have paid out money for these reoccurring problems because this car is a piece of junk.

11 Radiator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Aveo

Failure Date: 10/02/2010

My wife was driving to the grocery store about a mile away in a 2005 chevy Aveo. When she got there smoke was pouring out of her hood. Upon further inspection, the (plastic) thermostat housing was split in half allowing all the radiator fluid to spill out. After further research, this has been a widespread problem on this car and the manufacturer has even switched to using aluminum thermostat housings instead of the plastic ones without posting a recall. If she had been driving more than a mile down the road, it is very possible her engine would have over heated and possibly warped the heads and destroyed her engine. This known problem needs to be a recall.
