We have a 2006 chevy Aveo. It has a problem in the rear end, we were told it was a failure of the rear axle bearings and it allows the rear axle to move about one inch from left back to right, around corners and across bumps. We were told by our mechanic it would be over 800 dollars to fix, which we do not have. In addition, our mechanic stated this is a problem that should have initiated a massive recall. I cannot afford another car right now and am afraid that it will cause me to wreck.

2006 chevy Aveo - issue rear axle beam bushings failed at 65,000 miles. The failure allows the rear axle to have up to an inch of travel left to right. As you go down the road you can feel the back of the car shifting as you hit bumps in the road or simply by taking an exit ramp. Gm would not provide any assistance with this problem. I explained this is a safety issue and it fell on deaf ears. I read on line this is a problem for most Aveo owners. These are not old cars and this safety issue failure should be addressed by gm.
2006 chevy Aveo - issue rear axle beam bushings failed at 45,000 miles. The failure allows the rear axle to have up to an inch of travel left to right. As you go down the road you can feel the back of the car shifting as you hit bumps in the road or simply by taking an exit ramp. As the axle was shifted to on side when you hit a hard bump it would br metal to metal and would cause sparks under the car. By 49,000 miles it became undriveable as the smallest bump or turn would shift the axle. Gm would not provide any assistance with this problem. I explained this is a safety issue and it fell on deaf ears. I have replaced the axle beam at a cost of $461. 00 for the beam it self form gm as the gm oem part is the only part available, I put it myself - 6 hours of labor. Will this fail again in another 40k miles. I read on line this is a problem for most Aveo owners. These are not old cars and this safety issue failure should be addressed by gm.
