Ten problems related to transmission failure have been reported for the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Had to replace transmission at 140,000 miles. Servicing per the owner's manual was always done, including dealers recommendations for transmission flush. Transmission suddenly failed to shift to 1st gear, then failed to shift to reverse shortly after that. 3rd party repair shop stated transmission was beyond economical repair, so replaced with 3rd party transmission to the tune of $2800.
The reaction shell of the transmission failed, causing transmission to go bad. Reverse/first gear, and fourth gear were defective.
Transmission dip stick and tube are full of rust . This is a defect that will cause the transmission to fail and general motors should be correcting this problem. I only have 37000 miles on this vehicle and I do not want to replace the transmission at my cost because gm has made a mistake!.
Transmission failed. Nlm.
This transmission failure is the second for this vehicle . The first was 4/09/1999 @58765 miles . Vehicle is in shop as I type this report . The failure was the same in both instances . I am told by the transmission shop that this is very common to this transmission . This part should be improved by general motors and a recall initated on their part the repair cost of each failure is 750. 00 to 800. 00 .
Consumer stopped and then tried to continue, but vehicle stalled without a warning. There was a transmission failure before.
Why would the transmission fail at this mileage? I have never towed anyhing or been off road. Am upset that I had to pay $668. 98 in repairs on a two year old vehicle.
Transmission failure.
Transmission failed. Yh.
I understand that the Blazers have an inherent transmission problem, due to a rusty dipstick tube. I currently have 124k miles on my car and I too have noticed on long trips that my transmission shifts very hard from 1st into 2nd. This problem is extremely annoying, but I will keep driving it until the transmission fails completely.
