1 Ball Joint problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

I am shocked to find out that there are so many other people having problems with the abs brakes and the front end ball joints. I am actually afraid to drive my Blazer after reading about the problems. I live in a small town in the mountains and have to drive mountain roads and along a river to get to a bigger city. I average about once a month this trip and if I my Blazer was to have a wheel fall off because of a bad ball joint system I and maybe others would be dead or seriously hurt. I have over the years replaced my ball joints several times as they keep going bad, much more than just normal wear it appears. I also have for the last 6 months or so have had the abs light come on and the abs brakes come into play when slowing down or coming to a stop on dry roads. There are times the light is on when I first start my Blazer and haven't even moved yet. A mechanic that looked at it said that it appeared that the sensor would need replacing. I did not have it done as it was going to be several hundred dollars for the repair. What does it take to have a recall? how can people tell you of the problems they too are having, when these problems are not publicly announced and they have no idea that it is not just their vehicle. Like me, I had no idea there were these problems going on for other people too. Like I said I now am afraid about having a major accident because of the ball joint/suspension problem that is talked about on this website. I can not afford to buy a new vehicle. Can't we get help before someone has to be hurt or killed?.

5 Ball Joint problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/20/2005

Owner noticed after washing the car that the windshield wipers don't work. Owner has to stop and get out and hit the windshield wiper motor in order to get the windshield wipers to work. Sometimes the owner has to get out and wipe off the windshield. The auto parts store told the owner that there was no seal in the motor of the windshield wipers and this allows water to enter the motor. The owner has checked with Chevrolet and they stated owner would have to pay for diagnosis and the repair. The consumer believes the vehicle also has inferior ball joints.

7 Ball Joint problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 01/21/2005

My Blazer now has 56,000 miles on it. I have discovered that it is in need of front end repair - specifically the ball joints are badly worn, the boots on the frond axle have a bad crack on the right side, and there is significant idler wear. In doing research, I have discovered that numerous Blazer owners have experienced similar problems. I feel this is a design defect. I have also had two other issues that I am now discovering are common problems with a great number of Blazers. Both front reclining seat handles have broken off. I am also experiencing problems with the doors seeming to not align properly - as if the welds or hinges are failing. These have also been mentioned repeatedly in your complain area for this model. I have not gotten these items repaired as of this date. The Blazer is now parked until I can afford to get it fixed.

8 Ball Joint problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/12/2004

My vehicle's front end has been giving me alot of front end problems. Bouncing & making a vibration noise . I brought it to the dealership & they tell me that I need ball joints and other suspension parts due to the ball joints being bad on my vehicle. I call around to other repair shops & they say that is a very common problem with Blazers costing the consumer hundreds of dollars in repairs. So, what is chevy going to do about it ? wait until a number of people get into accidents before they'll name it a recall ?.

9 Ball Joint problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 03/31/2003

While driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer with under 34,000 miles on it with no prior warning the left front ball joint snapped causing the wheel to bend inward causing me to lose control of the vehicle narrowly avoiding an accident. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic that found the other three ball joints to be loose and in poor condition as well. He was shocked to find such a condition on such a low mileage vehicle as well.

10 Ball Joint problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 02/02/2002

When driving over a bump, a noise came from the vehicle, the consumer believed the problem was related to the ball joint recall.

11 Ball Joint problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 04/18/2001

The ball joints have significant play in them and are in need of replacement: this was noticed when tires that were new in November were found to be bald on the inner edge when I saw the steel belt. I thought it was perhaps the allignment but it turned out to be the ball joints allowing the wheels to toe outward. This I have subsequently found to be poor planning in the design of the factory ball joints in that they do not allow for lubrication or maintenance. On one side the wheel has play of approximately 1/2 inch the other side has signifcant play as well, but not as much. The failure was not catastrophic, I was advised by my mechanic not to drive the vehicle as the ball joints are degraded to a state that is unsafe.

12 Ball Joint problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 09/01/1999

Manufacturer appears to have failed to grease ball joints during assembly. It also appears that two purchsed grease jobs also were not actually performed by the dealer. At 7,000 miles the front end was making grinding noise and the steering wheel was lurching on turns. The dealer's fix is to grease the ball joints and send us back on the road without an inspection nor alignment check.

13 Ball Joint problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

Failure Date: 10/06/1998

Moving at approximately 15 mph in a condiminium plan, I rounded a curve when the right front side of my vehicle dropped down and my vehicle swerved right onto the grass hillside beside the road. When aaa arrived, it looked like the wheel had fallen off. After having it towed to the nearest dealer, they informed me that the tie rod had pulled out of the ball joint which holds the wheel to the axle. The service manager then informed me that they would not fix it under warranty because it was his impression that something had been hit because their was grass and dirt up under the front right bumper and wheel well. I explained to him that the grass and dirt was from when the vehicle slammed into the grass hillside after the wheel fell off but it did not change his opinion. I decided to pay $300 to tow my vehicle back to the dealer I leased it from. They would not fix it under warranty either citing the original service man's report. After several letters and calls to Chevrolet's customer service, they finally responded to me and said there were no grounds for fixing the problem under warranty. The damage to the vehicle ended up being $1200. 00 to fix the ball joint and tie rod. Not to mention another $400 for body work. On top of this, my dealer claimed that when the wheel fell off, the entire frame was bent. How could a sport utility vehicle traveling 15 mph get its frame bent from the tie rod braking? on top of that, it took my dealer, 5 weeks to fix the problem. It cost me $750 out of my own pocket to pay for a rental car. I didnt' turn it into my insurance because they informed me they would have to list it as an 'at fault accident' since the dealer would not fix the problem under warranty. So basically, a manufacturer's problem cost me $2250. What bothers me, is that the whole process was determined by the first moron service guy at the initial dealer who reported that it was his opinion something was struck. Chevrolet would not send a service mgr.
