Drivers side upper ball joint separated while making a right turn off of a main street onto a side street. The wheel folded into the wheel well causing the 2000 worth of damage. Chevy Blazer came to a sudden halt. My family was very lucky we were not going at highway speeds when this occurred. The vehicle has approximately 72,000 miles. I had just lubed the front end and changed the oil change the day before.

I took my 1997 Blazer to alevander chevrolot because the front end was making a grinding and popping sound on 9/23/04 miles at time of service was 86,921 they told me all that was wrong was it was dry they charged me $222. 94 and said they could not find anything else. Then on 8/14/05 miles at time is 91,844 which is less than 5,000 miles later the upper ball joint broke and the wheel fell over thank god we were in front of the house only doing 10 mph or we could of been killed anyway all the dealer is doing is replacing the upper ball joints on both sides the lower they say is ok they are not replacing the wheel that was destroyed or for a front alignment which will be needed to save my tires.
We were driving into our driveway doing all of about 5mph and all of a sudden it felt like there was a flat. We parked the car and got out to check it and saw the tire leaning up against the car. The upper ball joints broke off.

2000 Chevrolet Blazer s10, 80000 miles. Without warning upper ball joint on drivers side front gave out. Caused extensive damage to suspension, abs, axel and more. Would have been fatal if on hiway when failure occurred. Ended up replacing all parts mentioned above for about $5k. Still have offending ball joint in a box at home.

While driving at 30 mph, suddenly there was a grinding noise. The consumer pulled off the road to inspect the cause of the noise. The noticed that the front passenger tire was tilted. This occurred because the front upper ball joint broke and damaged the entire front end.
Was driving about 25 miles per hour on a local street with a 86 year old passgner and chrildren in the car, when the passenger side fell to the ground, unaware of what caused this I had assumed I had a flat tire and tried to move out of the way of traffic unsucessfully I remain in the middle of a busy street causing a major back up. Until an hour later when a tow truck came to tow me to a local shop. And the sfpd had to re-route traffic. Once at the shop I was told my ball joints snapped and broke causing the vechicle to drop as it did. After inspection both sides I was then told the driver side was also about to fall off. A few months before I noticed my car leaning heavly to the right side then a clicking noise started when I would turn but it stopped so I thought nothing more of it and bout 6 month later this happend.
Upper ball joint breakage at 55mph.
Upper ball joint collasped, luckily the car was being driven @ low speed or this could have been a very serious accident!!!!.
While driving 25 mph upper ball joints failed. This caused the front end to collapse. A recall was issued, however this vehicle was not included in recall due to VIN.
While driving at 30mph on a well paved road, heard a loud bang. Two seconds later, another loud noise was heard, and the Blazer tilted to the left like have a blown tire. Luckily, we were going at slow speed and managed to pull the Blazer to the curb. After told to the nearby service station, the mechanic said the upper ball joint on the front driver side was pulled off the socket. Subsequently, the wheel rim was cut and tire was blown. After learning that there was a recall of this kind on 1996 Blazer, I called gm and gave the VIN. The customer service said my vehicle is not in the recall list and there is nothing he can do. The car is well maintained, oiled and lubricated every 3000 miles. I cannot imagine if this had happened on the free way. This is a dangerous defect that all Blazer owner shall know.
Consumer took vehicle to dealership for inspection, and mechanic determined that upper ball joints failed.

Our dealer said that our upper ball joint is a safety risk. We have not had an accident yet, but the dealer claimed that there is danger of the front suspension failing.
My vehicle has been inspected by a certified mechanic as having defective upper ball joints. After investigation into a similar recall on gm vehicles I find that they are replacing these ball joints on my year and make of vehicle. The problem is that I'm told that my VIN number does not fall in the recall VIN numbers. Well who decides what VIN numbers should be covered and is it possible that they made the cutoff at the wrong point? I need to have these repairs done and I feel that every vehicle made in that year should be covered. Please forward these comments to anyone that could help and especially to all Chevrolet manufacturers and dealers. I guess its time to buy a Ford.
Consumer took vehicle in to have tires serviced, and was told at that time that their was a recall on his vehicle for the upper ball joint. Consumer had never received any notification. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, and was given the run-a-round, but they never sent him the recall letter. Now the manufacturer is fusing to send the letter stated that the vehicle has past the mileage. Ts.
