Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Camaro - part 1

My Camaro zl1 has 15300 miles an intermittently I’ll get an air malfunction warning on the dic. It occurs mainly if I don’t drive the vehicle for a couple days. I have no idea if this is a legitimate concern or as electrical gremlin. I would think the air bag system is critical for safety and should be repaired under warranty.

The airbag system failed to deploy during a side-impact collision. The vehicle is a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro LS. The vehicle was declared totaled after the accident and may be available for inspection through the insurance company if requested. Description of the incident and safety risk: while driving down the street and coming around a curve, another vehicle experienced a tire blowout and lost control. The driver attempted to correct the vehicle but crossed into my lane. I attempted to turn my vehicle toward the right to avoid a head-on collision, but the other vehicle t-boned my car on the driver’s side. The impact was severe. The other vehicle struck my car twice, which caused my vehicle to spin and come to rest on a curb. During the crash, none of the airbags deployed, including the driver airbag, despite the severity of the side impact. Because of the damage to the driver’s side door, it was crushed inward, and I had to pull my leg inward and exit through the passenger side door. During the collision, my head struck the steering wheel, and my back became very sore from the force of the impact. The failure of the airbags to deploy placed my safety at serious risk, as they could have helped prevent or reduce head and upper body injuries during the crash. Inspection / investigation: the incident has been reported to the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA). The vehicle has been evaluated by the insurance company following the accident and was declared totaled. Warning lights or prior symptoms: there were no warning lights, airbag alerts, or system messages prior to the crash. The airbag system appeared to be functioning normally before the accident.

I was driving home and a truck overpassed me on a loose sand area causing me to have to make a sudden brake and my car due to the loose sand and rocks sing around and hit a power pole and the impact to the power pole that was on the corner bounced me car back and my car did a flip and it landed on its front bumper and ultimately rolled over 4 times down a hill and landed on all four tires during the impact front airbags did not deploy my whole entire front dash board exploded and fragments flew everywhere once my car festered to roll the side airbags dropped but did not inflate, at the moment that my car hit the pole my driver seat physically came out of place and and even with my seat belt on it throw me to my backseat and caused the seat belt to me twisted around me, this same issue was allegedly fixed by three way chevy I had made a report during the time frame of june2023 when three way failed to fix my recall and fraudulently reported the recall repaired yet said no work was done to my car I was in contact with u guys already and this is unfortunately proof that supports my initial report to you from 2023 and need this investigation reopened.

The passenger and driver side roof rail air bags deployed without any crash impact just was driving around a corner and they went off there was no crash nothing was so scary I was also the only one in the vehicle at the time this happened. This also happened 2 days after chevy had it. They had it to upgrade the system due to a recall. I called chevy right away and asked them if the upgrade to my cars system had anything to do with the safety system they said no but they did not no what exactly it did do. This locked my seatbelts and caused my heated and cooled seats to no longer work it was looked at 2 days ago waiting for the cost estimate as we speak.

I got into a crash that destroyed the car completelt and totaled it, but the airbags didnt come and work like it was supposed to. After the accident I got a message on mychevrolet app saying theres was an issue with my airbags and I need to see a dealer. It didnt tell me before but after and I got injured in the crash resulting a total loss of the car,0 airbags deployed and this was brand new with only 1638 miles at the time of the crash, wasnt a month old and we got it from a Chevrolet dealer called riverview Chevrolet which they had the car listed as certified pre owned where they checked it and it passed by gm. So now the airbags had an issue,didnt deploy and im injured and seeking options.

I purchased a vehicle from superstar motorz on portland, oregon on 1/12/25 and was not adviced the vehicle did not have working airbags and the vehicle is now at a chevy service in puyallup, wa. The vehicle does not have functioning air bags. I was advised by the repair facility that in the event of an accident neither of the airbags will deploy. I sent the dealership a formal email asking for a resolution for helping with the repair. But I would also like them to be investigated to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. My airbags failed to deploy & I received a notification through my Chevrolet app on my phone, right after the accident stating “your 2023 Camaro airbag system has an issue. Schedule service”. My safety belt system also states there is an issue detected and to schedule service.

The air bags aren't working properly. They initially fixed a prior issue with my air bags long ago. However this issue has persisted. I think these cars have major issues with our air bags.

The passenger seat airbag indicates off on the status display inside the car. I have tried turning it on using the button on the status display with no success.

When someone sits in the passenger seat the airbag light/alarm goes on and off. My mechanic said I would need to take it to the dealer. I called dealer and they would need to diagnose if it is the seat belt or the seat weight sensor. Can cost upwards of $900. I just can't afford that. They should recall since I've researched so many complaints on this issue.

Air bag on passenger side. Transmission stared vibration brought in they repair it . This was still under warranty at the time. Now it doing it again. Seat they want change driver side motor . I fix it myself . It was the switch.

Air bags.

I was recently involved in an auto accident and my chevy Camaro was totaled. I was hit on the right passenger fender/tire side area. My air bags did not deploy and I feel that they should have been deployed with the impact that my vehicle took. Component - airbags safety - airbags did not deploy to prevent injury has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer - yes, called chevy & NHTSA on 04/16/24 has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - no, not yet. Sitting in initial spot after auto accident. Non drivable were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - no. No warning lights, or indicators stating air bag failure.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that after a visual inspection of the exterior of the vehicle, he observed that the air bag safety information sticker peeling away from the driver’s and passenger’s side windows. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

I was in a hit and run accident and my car was totaled. I had a passenger and her airbags deployed but the driver side didn't. I had reported that the service airbag alert was on when I first got the vehicle at carmax and they told us to take it to the chevy service center . I picked up the car a few days later and was told that it was fixed but after the accident , I'm sure it wasnt.

Car only has today 46,500 miles and passenger airbag sensor stopped working last year,started intermittenly working after 30,000 miles and now completely not working, repeated problem for all chevy Camaros having this problem with few miles on cars and barely any passengers sitting in seat to activate use.

My car was in a wreck due to a recall I thought was fixed with my airbags and safety.

January 2023. . Structural crack in the air bag dash location/passenger side. . . Looking at it more closely the crack continues in a perfect oval pattern. As of yet the car component in question has not been inspect by a dealer or others. When sitting back in the front passenger seat I can see that the dash is humped up in just that area. . The oval area. This oval area is just above the word air bag on the face of the dash. My concern is that if this is the airbag it could deploy and injury myself and others and cause a serious accident. The car has approximately 74,000 miles on it.

-the air bag light on the dashboard it's coming up, stays on, the passenger seat reader light stays on even if there is no nobody seating and when a person seats on passenger seat the passenger air bag sensor light says is off. -yes I'm available for inspection upon request. -the safety of the passenger and mine is in risk everytime I use the car. -it has never been inspected by that problem before ( but based on socialmedia grups with the same car we have the issue) -never had a check engine light on.

The "safety restraint system" service warning kept coming on the dash. The Chevrolet place said they would have to change the "connectors" on the sensor under the passenger seat. So I had to pay them $100 to fix this. My passenger could have been in danger of not having an airbag deploy if needed if I was to get in a wreck! yes the problem was confirmed by westgate Chevrolet in burgaw, nc.

My air bag light keeps popping up and tells me to service the air bags system and now it does it when nobody is on the seat too, the dealer told me they found the problem and charged me 500 and some dollars and I returned the car the same day they said it was fixed cause it was doing it again , I'm scared it might deploy. I never usually have anybody with me but sometimes my wife comes with me and they say is the seat restraints and I keep getting the run around. Thank you. . . .

The contact owned a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated while driving at approximately 15 mph, another vehicle failed to yield and crashed into the front passenger side of the vehicle. The contact stated he depressed the brake pedal however, the vehicle failed to stop, and the steering wheel failed. The air bags deployed seconds after the crash. No warning lights illuminated. The contact sustained injury to his back and a head concussion. Medical attention was needed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance. The dealer was not notified. The manufacture was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage of 109,000.

The steering wheel I have for starters, is not the correct one that is suppose to be with the vehicle. It should say “camaro” on the center of the steering wheel instead of having a Chevrolet logo on it. It’s also not symmetrical to the vehicle interior, it’s too big for where it is placed and doesn’t match up with the drive train. It poses a risk because it starts to shake after I go a certain speed and is also wobbly when I first start driving like something is loose inside of it. The seats also are not the original seats that the vehicle came with and have been replaced by idk what brand it is but it’s not a safe one because there are visible wires underneath the seat that aren’t covered and it causes me back pain after driving for the smallest amount of time. I have to reach far back to retrieve my seatbelt and it’s very inconvenient due to the strain it puts on me. I bought the car from this allegiances motors place and they allegedly inspected it and also did a safety inspection but they have not yet provided me with a legal safety inspection sticker and when I went in person about the issues I’m having they said buying was wrong with the vehicle. They coerced me in to signing a paper stating the airbags being deployed were unknown so I’m possibly driving around with no air bags in the vehicle which is highly alarming ne has I do drive with children in the backseat. It seems like all the components are slowly malfunctioning especially when I do not respond to the text messages of the car salesmen I bought the car from. They won’t provide me with any information regarding the air bags and let me know what they’re going to do in regards to fixing the visible wiring problem and ensuring I’m driving around with air bags that haven’t been deployed. Also, when I put my VIN number in the system it showed me a picture of a convertible which is also pictured on the owners manual that came with the car, and it’s not a convertible. It’s just a regular ol coupe.

The tires spun out of control while going the speed limit and wearing a seatbelt. The brakes ultimately failed. The car had no functional safety features, and I couldn't control the steering. It went airborne and rolled over. The airbags failed to deploy after hitting a tree. My safety and others were put at risk, and I almost died from the accident. I suffer from life-threatening/altering injuries.

We were hit perpendicular to the passenger side door of our 2021 Camaro. The side airbag(s) did not go off. The other vehicle was going about 15-20 mph upon impact. The right side of our car was seriously smashed in. Its a good thing the passenger was not killed or injured and this is a law of physics abnormality.

Service air bag light came on only have 55000 miles on the vehicle. Rarely driven.

Was involved in a hit n run June 13 2021. My insurance claim stated my car has 2 unrepaired recalls. The emblem hit me on the forearm.

I had bought a 2017 Camaro on 5/18/2021 and on 6/13/2021 I was in a car accident and once we were hit the air bags pop out we were not going to fast and on the driver side the embrome pop out and also smoke the driver had put his arm to cover his face and he has the mark on his arm of the embrome.

We purchased a vehicle from shamley in el paso texas and we were in volved in a head on coullsion. We tried to stop and the breaks didn't function we were going 25 mph. We lost traction control and hit a car who took the red light and the air bags popped and the driver airbags emblem was marked on my forearm. May you please assist me.

When driving I keep getting a airbag warning notification on for the passenger side saying there's an issue. And now my driver's seat is stuck all the way forward and won't recline. I can't even drive the vehicle now because the seat won't move back to get behind the wheel. I don't know what to do!.

I totaled out my car I flipped 8 times landed on all four of my tires. My airbags didn't deploy. . None of them.

Air bag service option keep coming up on my screen while on the expressway and city streets I turned off onto after being frightened by the message. Barely had the car 5 months and it started. It would chime them disappear. This is very scary and makes me view my car as a ticking death trap. I dont feel I need to pay for this out of pocket for this. As it deals with the safety of the car from a company I trust.

On August 18th 2020. I was interested in buying this 2011 Camaro from ts auto sales in orlando florida. The salesman name is sami. I asked him if there was any extensive damage to the vehicle? he said the driver side was hit and it was replaced. I asked him if there was anything else? he said no. After I purchased the vehicle. I later found out, that he was not being truthful with me. I looked the vehicle up, and found that the air bags had been deployed. Which is a major safety violation. I also asked him why the battery was being drained. He said it just need to be charged. I took the car to a steve's auto electric in clermont florida. The technician told me that the air bags needed to be replaced. At the cost of $3,500. This is a rebuild able title. You can not get this vehicle inspected if all of the repairs are not done, and you must have receipts for every part that was repaired, or replaced. This is a very unsafe vehicle. To my understanding. It's the responsibility of the dealership to make any major repairs before selling a vehicle.
