Chevrolet Camaro owners have reported 27 problems related to brake electric antilock (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Camaro based on all problems reported for the Camaro.
The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact was
driving in rainy weather conditions approximately 65 mph and encountered a bump in the road. Suddenly, the anti-lock brake system and skid control system warning light indicators illuminated. The tires and brakes locked when pressure was applied to the brake pedal causing the vehicle to skid off of the roadway. The contact was able to gain control and continue normal operation. The failure occurred on bumpy road surfaces. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician repositioned the anti-lock brake system bracket and parking brake cable. Also, the abs wiring was replaced. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving and applying the brakes the steering wheel vibrated uncontrollably. A loud clanking noise was heard coming from the driver's side and passenger side wheels. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer. The mechanic determined that the wheel rims were not the correct rims. The mechanic replaced the rim spacer for the front. But the rear rim spacer were on back order. The wheel studs were broken and the lug nuts were working themselves loose, the wheel centering spacers were not installed when the rims were replaced, the studs weren't long enough for the rims.

Disk brake rotors. The disk brake rotors warp so often that they constantly need turned or replaced. I have had them turned at approx 11000 miles and they already need attention again. They make intermitant noise and you can feel the wobble when you go to stop. Looking on the internet this is a very common complaint with this vehicle and the brake rotors.

This has happened numerous times. Brake pedal will have no pressure and car will take extra distance to stop. This happens when it is wet or at low speeds wet or dry.

I bought my vehicle new 7 months ago. Now the brake system is getting worse. The front-end, steering wheel, shakes violently when I apply the brakes during normal driving. I took the car to the dealership to inquire about the problem 3 days ago, and the service man told me it was probably warped front rotors so I made an appointment for today. I went in and the service man (a different one) told me that they could fix it, but that it wasn't covered under warranty. This is what upsets me most. The vehicle is still under the warranty period. I have been driving the car under normal conditions, so why do I still have to pay for the rotors to be fixed? this is a known problem with the 1998 and newer Camaro's and should be covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

The right rear tire blew out, it is in two completely different peices, on a major highway. I could have easily lost control of the vehicle and been in a major accident. I have also had to have the tires plugged twice already since I purchased the vehicle. The brakes have been squeaking for almost three months and when reported to dealer they did nothing to fix it. They have also caused skidding when roads are wet and do not feel as if they are properly locking. ( dot number: tire size: p235/55r16 ).

When applying the brakes car goes from side to side. Dealer has repaired the vehicle five times, yet the same defect still occurs.
A police officer witnessed the accident. The car was turning right on a slight downhill grade. The weigh shifted forward, locking up the abs system, causing the car to continue forward with no pull ot traction to complete the turn. This loss of control at normal speeds may have caused similar accident several months ago. There was no ticket issued. The cause was listed as "locking of the abs braking system". We believe that the gm abs system has a high degreee of probability of being very dangerous. We would like to know how many similar reports have been lodged and recommend a factory replacement or adjustment to this potentiually dangerous system in the 1996 cars. Is there a known fix to this?.
Front brake rotors are warping prematurely, need resurfacing for the second time. Dealer contacted and states normal wear and tear on the brakes. Provide further information.
Front brake rotors are warped, and have been since the car was new. Dealer "cleans" them each time I bring in the car. Many people have reported this problem. There should be a recall for these defective rotors.
Rotors on front of vehicle warped to the point that control of vehicle difficult. Gm authorized resurfacing only and defective rotors were left on car. At 16,000 rotors warped again to the point that I felt vehicle was unsafe. Gm replaced rotors with oem rotors and at 20,000 the rotors have again warped to the point of being annoying. Seems to be a problem with the material composing the rotors, and not from driving style.
No summary provided by consumer.
When the brakes were applied they pulled and squeaked the dealer had to replace them twice.
Rotors warped at 6k miles; dealer refinished same. Repair lasted roughly 6k miles before problem returned. At highway speeds (60mph +) if brakes are applied front wheels shake severely, causing loss of control. In a panic situation, I don't think the car would be controllable. Dealer solution is to resurface rotors a second time and replace if problem returns. This appears to be a widespread problem with Camaros, and I fail to see how replacing rotors with the same part will solve the problem. This is a high performance vehicle capable of 150mph + speeds, and should have a braking system to match.
Excessive wear of front rotors due to warping. Two sets of rotors had to be replaced within 3,000 miles of wear. Dealer notified.
Applied the abs brakes to slow down and the brakes gave out, causing the vehicle to run up on a curb. Please describe details.
Need information regarding the 1999 Camaro braking system(rotors, etc. )& structural rattling.
While depressing brakes, no hard shaking in steering wheel. Dealer has been contacted. Stated normal wear. Please provide further information.
When car is being driven in wet conditions and the brakes are applied, the car shakes violently, to the point of loosing control of the car. The dealer says it is the anti-lock brakes and this is normal.
When the abs brakes are applied with force and the vehicle is not on a flat surface, especially if the weight shifts forward, the rear brakes begin to vibrate uncontrollably causing the rear end to vibrate exstencibly to the point that the vehicles spins around 180 degrees or more. . This occurs at speeds of 40 mph or more.

When applying the brakes the vehicle did a 180 degree spin and hit a pole due to the abs kicking in. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
No summary listed for this vehicle. ( dot number: tire size: 245/50/z16 ).
While driving 60 mph and changing lanes brakes were applied suddenly while turning the wheel to avoid a collision, the abs locked up, causing the vehicle to spin, resulting in a rollover.
Car takes excessive physical effort to stop in rainy conditions.
When abs brakes are applied front end shimmies. Problem occurs in rainy conditions. Rotors have been replaced, but problem remains.
