Car Stall Problems of Chevrolet Cavalier - part 2

Vehicle stalls in middle of road with out warning. Consumer feels this is unsafe because another vehicle could rear end consumer's vehicle. Please provide any further information.

My car has stalled 4 differnt times w/out any warning,the 2 or 3 times I was told to put gas treatment in my tank . They thought I had water in my tank. Finally after almost hitting an 18 wheeler in the rear w/my 3 year old daughter in the car, the dealer said the fuel filter was defective,& the fuel modular regulator was shorting out. I tried to get gm to do a buy -back on my car the refused. This is only one of many repeated problems w/my z24. I am going to file the lemon law on this car.

Vehicle stalls at slow speeds and in stop and go traffic. Will start again after 5-15 minutes. Taken to dealer, cannot remedy. Vehicle has stalled about 15 times.

Going uphill vehicle stalled, after 10 minutes. Started again, and a while later, on uphill vehicle stalled . Had vehicle towed to dealer, mechanic took vehicle on test drive, and it stalled uphill. Dealer replaced fuel sending unit. In November 2000, head gasket had to be replaced.

About 4 months ago vehicle started to run badly, was beginning to die while driving. Consumer had to place foot on brake and gas pedal to ensure vehicle would not stall out. Consumer has taken vehicle to shaver Chevrolet dealer 3 times, but cause was unknown. Consumer stated dealer could not fix defect, and was driving an unsafe vehicle.

Vehicle stalls while coming to a stop or making a turn intermittently for past 6 months. (8 times in one day) chevy dealer has made repairs. Problem still exists.

1999 Chevrolet Cavalier intermittently stalls, this can be stopped at a light or slowing to turn a corner. Happens with out warning , this has occurred 4 times or more. This vehicle is driven by a younger driver , daughter 19 and is unsafe not knowing when it will stall. Dealer midway Chevrolet service manager john dunlap states he can and will not fix the vehicle until the condition is hard in and will not run. Midway has stated they will not spend time to trouble shoot this condition even though the vehicle is under warranty. Complaint filed with Chevrolet file # c00794773, Chevrolet customer rep. Bonnie harris also states Chevrolet will not attempt to fix this condition until it is a hard failure or a code is thrown. We consider this Chevrolet approach to be not only a safety hazard, but an unacceptable approach to a valid warranty claim. Thank you.

The consumer has experienced a number of stalling with this vehicle, almost causing accidents in a few cases. The consumer has contacted the manufacturer, and there has been an attempt to repair, but the problem still occurs. The consumer is concerned that this problem could cause a serious accident which could lead to death /serious injury, and would like to have the vehicle replaced for one she can trust.

My car stalls when at idle. I have only had the car for 6 months and I have taken it back to the dealership 5 times. Now it is cutting off on me. Everytime I take it back they clean the spark plugs and reset the computer, but that doesn't do any good, it actually makes it worst. I think this caar is a waste of money.

Car stalls unexpectedly while driving. Driver loses control. Dealer can't seem to fix it correctly. Failed again 10/30/99.

Experiencing ongoing problem with vehicle stalling whenever travelling 25 mph with the right turn signal on. Also, front pads and rotors had to be replaced at 11,000 miles, and was informed by dealer that condition was normal at 11,000 miles of wear. Problem still exists.

When driving vehicle intermittently stalls and cuts off. Owner has had vehicle into the dealer three times for the stalling.

While driving vehicle will stall intermittently, speed is approximately 35-70 mph. No indication as to when the vehicle will cut off. Dealer and manufacturer cannot duplicate the problem.

While driving, for no apparent reason, the vehicle stalled which almost caused an accident. Dealer cannot determine problem.

Vehicle stalls without warning while driving, in for repairs, no problem found.

When driving at any speed tranmission failed and vehicle stalled. Also, when applying the brakes, they went straight to the floorboard and squeaked. Brake rotors and motor mounts were replaced. Also, fuel pump is going out .

When driving at any speed vehicle stalls and cuts off without prior warning. Fuel pump had been replaced twice, and parts within the transmission have also been replaced. But vehicle continues to stall.

Intermittent stalling/hesitation.

While driving 50-60 mph and without warning vehicle will stall, then shutdown on major highway.

When applying the brakes the vehicle stalls. Dealer has seen vehicle 3 times in last month and cannot find a solution.

Vehicle will stall while idling and without warning , dealer has replaced throttle positioning center, and reprogrammed pcm, but defect still occurring, and causing safety hazard.

Vehicle stalled while driving 65 mph on the highway. The cause of the problem had not been determined.
